Otherwise, you should be able to change that. If you're concerned with noise on load, you probably want to purchase a quiet aftermarket cooler.

Can you set it somehow that it gets faster under load and idle it gets slower?

It should already do that, if it doesn't, there should be BIOS settings. You should be able to set it to automatic, but be CAREFUL messing with fan levels.

Hey guys I posted a while back with a build but kinda got side tracked and never started it. Its been +6 months since then so I thought I would ask for some updated advice for my build.
My budget is around £500
My resolution is 1920 x 1080 I plan on skipping the next console generation and instead play games solely on PC. The upgrade cycle will be long as I don't really want to make another or upgrade any time soon afterwards. I plan on building it around April/May when I get my student loan I do not plan on overclocking I will need an windows operating system I do not plan on adding a second GPU I live in the UK so an alternative to Newegg etc would be appreciated
Thanks in advance.

Impressed by power consumption, not impressed with much of anything else...
|
I dunno.
I have been hearing forever that 7870 will basically be a 6970 in disguise and thats pretty much the performance level we got.

Yeah, they compare well to current generation cards, but feels like AMD hasn't reallly done enough. They're going to have to drop all their prices between $10 and $30 to stay competitive when Kepler hits (assuming Nvidia delivers the way AMD has not)

Considering the 7870 will cost as much if not more than the 6970, that's not exactly a revolutionary step forward.

Once you saw HD 7970 performance and then looked at the number of shaders on 77xx series and 78xx, was there anything that was surprising at all? Also, given production and yields, and the current lack of competition on 28nm, why would the pricing be different?

Well 7850 is not so strong. But the 7870 is a very very strong card in its class especially once we find out just exactly how far these cards can be pushed, which so far has been really far.
ATM there really is no reason to recommend either a 570 or 580 anymore. 560ti 448 still has a spot though.
Your late to the party.

But the real question is.
How fast does it mine???
|
Indeed. Who cares about the games. All about dat bitcoin :D
|
Not all about anymore.
FPGA's should be taking over. But I cant game on FPGA's lol.
However because AMD cards are free since nVidia's are shit at mining, effectively making all of my Radeon purchases free after awhile, I am interested in figuring it out. Lower power consumption is a STRONG sign that this is really good news for my next personal graphic card use.
But 7990's are still probably going to be the best bang for the buck there. I dunno Im holding out. Im not a multi GPU fan.

350 USD card performing better than a 550 USD?

There is actually a lot of problems with the techpowerup benchmarks in general.
Anandtechs are a lot more inline with what I was expecting.
|
|
That is from TechPowerUp, that was the graph for overclocked performance which is... questionable.
