We need to know so we recommend the right amount of PCI-e slots and such. I'm ok with 2 PCI-e slots. I'm not interested in going higher than that. My budget for CPU/RAM/MOBO is $1000 CPU 600-650, Mobo 250-300, RAM probably 8 or 16gb.

You are intending on multi GPU though right? I dunno why I am asking though now that i think about it. I probably wouldnt end up recommending a x16 x4 motherboard anyway.

But I think I'm in love with the processor. All I do all day is read about it. Can't help but want it, and may even upgrade to Ivy-e in a year. I didn't notice the combo deals for it on newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.808408 is what i'm looking at right now. I can't be convinced otherwise and I apologize for my disregard for bottlenecking, as I'm running a 6870 non crossfire right now. I only have a 450 watt psu and will consider getting geforce sli cards when the time comes. it would be neat to assign 3 for a game and 3 for xsplit.

It's way overkill and I understand, considering I can play and stream Skyrim at about 30-40fps on my q6600 (oc to 3.6ghz). But I think I'm in love with the processor. Otherwise we would all have AMD hexacores and octocores.

Pointing out hardware for enthusiasts with no real budget is difficult because we have to gauge your level of enthusiasm. A motherboard that we like might not have the aesthetic details you are looking for. So generally, we simply don't have recommendations for enthusiast socket owners. We have however seen a lot of people screw themselves over with enthusiast equipment. Because they think they are future proofing. And they have to upgrade at the same time as non enthusiasts anyway. OR something breaks and they end up having to pay enthusiast level repairs. Those processors that are $1k now will be $1k 4 years from now as well. We are just trying to make sure that this isnt you. We care! ™

Edit: Apparently I care a little less than Medrea. Then again, I really like those commercials. Edit2: Has the second stepping for the Sandy Bridge-E come out yet?

I actually had the 3930k recommended to me by Skyr for my budget, and I went with an Asus P9X79 Pro Motherboard. Had 0 problems setting it up and clocking it to 4.5ghz and a stable 30c and 55-60 under 100%load using an noctua nh-dh14 aftermarket cooler. Computer does everything I need it to do and more so I give the processor a thumbs up if it fits your budget.

Though unless you must have the fan controller and temeprture dock (which is utterly useless in practice), I'm not seeing why you can't ust get a nice Lancool chassis. For one, you actually get tool-less PCI clamps that actually work. Thanks for the advice. Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. I'm looking into some Lancool cases now and they look pretty good. I didn't pick the Zalman for any particular reason -- I was just looking for a ballpark estimate of how much my build would cost so I didn't think a case would matter too much for an early estimate.

.Speaking of advertising, brand of memory does not matter. Specs do. Heatspreaders: no. Generally you want low-profile (no spiky heat spreaders), so you don't have compatibility issues with coolers with low clearance. By and large, heatspreaders are only useful for their aesthetics. If you're getting Sandy Bridge-E, you basically want the cheapest 1600mhz memory with a low profile.

Frankly, it doesn't sound like a problem you can throw money at. At least not in terms of upgrades.

I'm helping my cousin build a new PC around the $1000 mark. I'm in a bit of a loss atm but since you guys give the best advice I reckon I might as well post here. So far I've picked out some decent parts but I need help on picking out a case and a mobo as well as a confirmation on the PSU. Should I drop down and go with an Antec Neo Eco 450C 450W instead of the Silverstone?? I'll be buying parts from PCCG, and the monitor is going to be in a separate budget. I'm torn between a mATX or a fullsize ATX mobo. I was thinking of going with a mATX build but I thought about how stuffy its going to be inside and now I'm second guessing. I was thinking getting either: AsRock Z68M USB3 Mobo http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18210 CoolerMaster Elite 341 mATX http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=14530 or ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 Mobo http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=18769 Antec Two Hundred Case v2 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_547&products_id=14042 Or should I just get the mATX ASRock with the Antec 200? If I can cut the price down more the better ![]()
