Not necessarily. See here for an explanation of why you don't want one monitor for your PC/Console recording/streaming solution. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=270549
That GPU is pretty good. But are you going to be using that right now? As in, are you going to be playing any games besides your console games before Diablo 3 comes out? If so, what other PC games? It might not even be worth getting one right now, and just using the integrated graphics card on the 2500k if it's capable of doing that (someone else can confirm -- I don't know).

If all he wants to do is display his console games and streams, he's going to want a CPU-heavy-ended rig, and a cheap graphics card. The graphics card isnt' going to be producing the images, his console will. All it needs to do is display at the proper resolution he wants.
I would also advise you get another monitor and use a Y-splitter. Using your computer as a passthrough is going to cause some delay on your screen while playing. Sure but you don't need the best processor in the world just to stream O_O People have been streaming long before sandybridge!

I'd like some opinions/ideas on a build I'm working on. This is just my starting point to get an idea of where I want to go, I'm open to any suggestions.
Info: My budget is very flexible. I'm aiming for an extremely nice setup, but cutting costs where possible. I will be using this computer for a plethora of things (OS = Win7): gaming, encoding/streaming, video/photo editing, general usage, and some programming although I already have a Linux box. Video-encoding prowess and CPU are the main items that warrant an upgrade. (links/prices from Newegg)
GPU: LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS! Videocard is obviously one of the most important components, but right now I really have no idea what I want to go for, or how to stack it with my system properly. Dual-monitors are a requirement. I don't have any real need for a multi-card setup (and the current MoBo I'm looking at is x16 single, x8/x8 dual anyway). I'll will also be putting some sort of video-capture card in, record X-box or whatever.
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W ($219.99) This seems to be the best bang per buck/most recommend CPU. I've never over-clocked before, and don't want to sacrifice lifetime unnecessarily, but knowing I have the option down the road is nice. Is it really worth more for a top-of-the-line i7? Any reason I should go lower-end if I'm not planning to over-clock? After-market fan?
Mobo: ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s ATX ($154.99) I'm just matching to CPU. I like ASUS boards, but this ASRock is highly recommended (other brand recommendations welcome). Does have USB 3 which I want. I guess P67 is suppose to work nice with dat i5...
Mem: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) ($49.99) I know I don't need to get more than 4gig, but mems cheap, and I want 8. I like Corsair, but I don't know anything about their memory, used Kingston before.
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB SATA III MLC ($109.99) HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s ($119.99) I'm going to try out this new fancy-smancy OS on SSD thing. Crucial seems to be the most recommended brand SSD, and I've heard of every brand HDD failing from one person or another. WD Caviars seem to be popular.
Case/Power combo: <combo link> ($224.98) PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 (80+ Bronze) Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R Black Steel, ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Just picked a combo deal on Newegg. I have no idea what watt I need yet, but I like to splurge a little bit for a nice case (not sold on this specific case or anything). 80+ bronze fine, or should I spend for gold?
Peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitors): Aside from not getting a crap monitor, I don't really consider this part of my build. Already have some good monitors, and I'll just pick up some nice Logitech stuff.
Current total (no vid-card yet): $879.93
Thanks to everyone in advance.

If you're not overclocking than going for a non-K suffix processor is going to save you money obviously without sacrificing a noticeable amount of performance. If you are encoding seriously than it may be worth it to look into a core i7 2600k and if you are encoding seriously, it is definitely recommended to overclock. And unless you're a complete idiot or overclocking with liquid nitrogen / some other extreme means, you can not drastically reduce the lifespan of the processor by overclocking it.
1600MHz provides little benefits over 1333MHz... it's best to just get a $40 1333MHz kit unless you want to have resale value or just want aesthetics.
Lol you do not need a Caviar Black for storage... if you can't fit everything on the SSD and need a 7200 RPM HDD than get a Samsung Spinpoint F3 or Caviar Blue.
If you have no intention of doing a multi-GPU configuration than the Extreme4 is essentially a waste of money and a 750w power supply is also a waste of money.
You should probably be looking into the Asrock P67 Pro3 which is basically the same thing except a different colour scheme, different connectivity setup, and a little less connectivity.
For a single GPU configuration, all you need is a ~500w power supply... not even. Good ones would include but not limited to XFX Core Edition, Antec Neo Eco, Antec High Current Gamer, Seasonic S12II, Antec Earthwatts - whichever is less expensive.
For graphics card, I assume you're gaming on one monitor and don't mean Eyefinity with two monitors (because this is stupid and you shouldn't do this). Look into getting a Radeon HD6870, Radeon HD6950 1GB, or GTX 560 Ti.
And us.ncix.com usually has better pricing than Newegg on most components such as the harddrive, power supply, memory, and processor.
The 2500k is $190: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=57962&promoid=1208
XFX Core Edition 450 (which is enough) is $50: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63238&promoid=1208

no i wont be gaming till that game comes out so ill probably wait till it gets closer to its release date to buy it. and thanks for that info i did not know that about streaming/recording. so just so i understand fully.
If i want to use one moniter i have to 1. Turning on your Xbox 360 and have it plugged into your cap card (one of the HDMI y-splitter ends) 2. Going on your PC, setting up your recording software, and telling it to record 3. Leave the actual PC on, but unplug it from the monitor 4. Taking the other HDMI Y-splitter end and plugging it into your monitor 5. Playing your games while your PC records 6. When your done, just reverse the order and tell your PC to stop recording.
but if i want to use two moniters which would be better i would have to have a splitter set up through two moniters so theres two screens one to record on and the other to actually play on?
do you know how bad the lag is on one moniter? i will be streaming and recording so if its noticably bad i guess ill have to get another moniter.

If you have two monitors, you want the console output to a Y-splitter, which is connected to (1) the capture card and (2) monitor #1 for displaying the game. Monitor #2 you leave plugged into your computer, so you can do things on your computer like start and stop capturing without having to unplug/replug stuff.
edit: if you only have one monitor, I'd leave the monitor hooked up to the computer as well as the console (console also connected to capture card). You can just switch between the two inputs on the monitor. It's a little less convenient than having both the computer and game displayed on two separate monitors, but it's not that big of a deal.

I should have listened to you guys... I bought the CDFC version of XFX 6950 and apparently they cut the extra shaders to make it unable to unlock (on top of hardwarelocking the bios, but that can be bypassed with soldering). Sigh. I wonder if it can be crossfired with an unlocked card since I was planning on using the one I already had (which has the bios tweak) in this setup. Also sent an angry mail to XFX. Grr.

6950 and 6970 can be Crossfired together.

okay ill probably just stick with one moniter and just do that. so when im streaming and lets say i finish a game and in the loading stream i want to check the stream so i switch inputs on the stream is it still gonna show the game or will it show a black screen?

I mean to switch inputs on your monitor, so you can go between viewing the console output and the computer output. Your monitor has more than one video input (VGA, component, HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort), right?
Both computer and console will continue running regardless of whether or not you're looking at what they're outputting.

Cheat? haha. You think anyone bought a nvidia card under the ref card models period with dual bios? The production cost was just the same, and probably more expensive now to do all these revisions, so initially there is nothing to cheat. The only issue (for them) would be that 6970 wouldn't sell as well, but since the 6950 cards more than makes up for it I don't see the issue honestly...

What is your budget?
I am looking so spend around $800-900 US at most
What is your resolution?
I play on a plasma TV. This can go up to 1920 by 1080. I usually keep my desktop and play games at 1280 by 768
What are you using it for?
It's primary purpose is for gaming and regular data processing
What is your upgrade cycle?
Last time I bought a computer was three or four years ago. It is really time for an upgrade. It will most likely be the same amount of time till I upgrade again. I can see myself upgrading a part or two if it needs it but won't go for a major overhall for quite a while
When do you plan on building it?
I want to build this computer as soon as possible
Do you plan on overclocking?
No I do not want to overclock it
Do you need an Operating System?
Yea I need Windows 7. I might just have my local computer guy install windows 7 for like $120 so don't think I will add it to the hardware budget.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
To be honest I am not 100 percent sure I know what this means so I guess no.
Where are you buying your parts from?
I was thinking of buying from Newegg unless you guys know of a place where I could buy the same parts for cheaper.
I have been having shortcircuit issues lately. My computer will just randomly go into shutdown mode. Like I will be in the middle of something and all applications will just close and it will say windows is shutting down and will just shut down. Very frustrating and I have no idea what the issue is. It can be fine for days and all of a sudden just do it. Or it can do it multiple times a day. I think it might be a case issue or something cause I have spent $200 replacing the mobo, ram, pwer supply and processor. Nothing has worked. Just want a clean start with a new operating system. currently use XP. Not sure if I can scavage any of these parts. If I can, I would like to. I will provide my system specs. Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHZ, Video: ATI Radeon HD 4800 1013 MB. HD: I am running an 8 month old SATA 500 gig hard drive with a twin 500 gig SATA as the backup and storage. Not sure if I should replace these. The ram that was just bought is 4 gig unsure of anything else about it. I know the MOBO that I bought in replacement is a piece of crap and for sure needs to be replaced. I am not sure if that answers everything but if I have not thought of something let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well yeah, it's a cheat if you're arguing semantics. You could also argue that normal overclocking or overvolting can be cheating... In any case, it was a cheat that most likely favored AMD, so I don't see why they'd want to remove it.
