Computer for Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3 Overview: I am being allowed to upgrade my gaming computer for Christmas. I have an allowance for 500 dollars for hardware, and am looking to be able to max out Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3, and Battlefield 3 on 1440x900 resolution. All my system clocks are stock. I currently am running a system with an AMD athlon x2 560, a radeon HD 5770, a 5400 rpm 240 GB hard drive, and 4 GB of DDR3 1333 memory. The Question: With 500 dollars to spend, is it possible to appropriately upgrade this system in order to accomplish said task? I understand it may not be possible to max out Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, but maybe the others? Which components should I change and change it out for what? I am also looking to have an expandable computer for later so that I may upgrade with the newer components in the future without having to scrap the whole system. Another plus would be more hard drive space as I am currently running out, if this makes the task impossible though, I can make do without. (: Thanks TL, and Good Luck!!! BuZZ

What's the power supply and case? Likely you can reuse those things, as well as the optical drive, hard drive, and RAM. You may need to replace the power supply, depending on the model. Approximate cost is maybe $180 for Core i5-2xxx, $60 for H61 motherboard, $170 for HD 6870, $60 for 1TB hard drive (less for less capacity). edit: btw new generation of graphics cards may be out by December, though allegedly only the lower-end models slower than your HD 5770. Higher-end models should follow. Also, new Intel processors should come a few months into 2012, so maybe this is not such great timing to upgrade (but difference between Athlon II X2 and current Sandy Bridge quad core is much larger than Sandy Bridge quad core to Ivy Bridge quad core).

No need for more. My optical drive is currently dying but I never use it so it is not a problem. Just got to install the games and ditch it :p. My psu is currently enough to run any single gpu setup.

Could you crossfire a 5770 with a 6770? Even if they are different brands? Or would it be more worth it for me to just pick up another 5770?

so a 6870 would be better usually CX6770=6950 (most of the time, it scales badly with newly released games since drivers arent out for those yet, etc ...)

It is 650 watt. Is that enough for crossfire 5770s?

There is a crossfire chart available out there. On October 23 2011 01:20 BuZZ123 wrote: It is 650 watt. Is that enough for crossfire 5770s? Very plenty.

The case's good but still overpriced. Honestly you'd save a fortune or two by ordering from hardwareversand instead. Btw you accidentally linked the PSU twice so I couldn't review the mobo.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004Q5W7EM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE thats the mobo. I didnt realise the hard drive was that expensive. Ive had them added to my basket for a while, just so i have a list of what im getting. When i added that hard drive it was only £42 but that seller ran out. Ill buy the same one i linked, but ill find a cheaper seller or get it off hardwareversand like you said ![]() what do you mean the 6850 is overpriced? £20 difference from what? the one you linked is the same as mine isnt it? but the same problem as the hard drive, the seller just increased their price. And i only picked the 2300 cos i wanted the cheapest build i could. But ive got a little bit more now, and the extra £9 is definitely wortth it ![]() i get free next day delivery on amazon, and due to it being close to christmas, and i want it by christmas at the latest, i was just gonna use that, hardwareversand doesnt really seem to be cheaper

If you are encoding seriously than it may be worth it to look into a core i7 2600k and if you are encoding seriously, it is definitely recommended to overclock. And unless you're a complete idiot or overclocking with liquid nitrogen / some other extreme means, you can not drastically reduce the lifespan of the processor by overclocking it. 1600MHz provides little benefits over 1333MHz... it's best to just get a $40 1333MHz kit unless you want to have resale value or just want aesthetics. Lol you do not need a Caviar Black for storage... if you can't fit everything on the SSD and need a 7200 RPM HDD than get a Samsung Spinpoint F3 or Caviar Blue. If you have no intention of doing a multi-GPU configuration than the Extreme4 is essentially a waste of money and a 750w power supply is also a waste of money. You should probably be looking into the Asrock P67 Pro3 which is basically the same thing except a different colour scheme, different connectivity setup, and a little less connectivity. For a single GPU configuration, all you need is a ~500w power supply... not even. Good ones would include but not limited to XFX Core Edition, Antec Neo Eco, Antec High Current Gamer, Seasonic S12II, Antec Earthwatts - whichever is less expensive. For graphics card, I assume you're gaming on one monitor and don't mean Eyefinity with two monitors (because this is stupid and you shouldn't do this). Look into getting a Radeon HD6870, Radeon HD6950 1GB, or GTX 560 Ti. And us.ncix.com usually has better pricing than Newegg on most components such as the harddrive, power supply, memory, and processor. The 2500k is $190: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=57962&promoid=1208 XFX Core Edition 450 (which is enough) is $50: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63238&promoid=1208 Thanks skyR, I'll take your recommendations and come up with another build. Anyone recommend a good first-timer over-clock guide? I can search and find one fine, but I've never done this before and a lot of people write less than stellar guides.
