E8400 is still decent for the majority of games. To upgrade to a better processor, you would need to purchase a new motherboard and new DDR3 memory. If you're just concerned about Skyrim performance than maybe you should wait until the game comes out before upgrading, you'll hopefully have a bigger budget and maybe possibly upgrade both the CPU and GPU at the same time.

Also I changed the motherboard to Gigabyte Z68AP-D3, it's cheaper but it only has 1 16x pcie, the other one is 4x. Is there a noticeable difference?
If you want a silent case than look at Fractal Design Define R3 and Antec Solo II.
Yes, there is a difference between 8x/8x and 16x/4x. There was a discussion on this a while back, starts somewhere here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137554¤tpage=623#12458

Just an update after my bank refusing to allow any transactions with ebuyer, due to "fraudelent activity"... I searched around, and had to get from 2 different suppliers. Was not actually that bad, as total delivery was only £2.36! Alot less than what it was going to be before;

So all in, it came to £727.38 inc delivery. Amazon order was free and novatech was £2.36. Bargain! My previous build from Ebuyer was coming in at £754.91 ! And I have re-jigged it and went for a better Optical drive now. So ended up saving a good wee bit going elsewhere.
From my original build I did not have Windows 7, but decided just to get it now anyway, as my copy was not "reliable". Considering the original was £698 without an OS, I am pretty happy.
It has to be said, Amazon is pretty solid for price. This novatech site however was very good on price. All is ordered and should be with me by end of the week. Will keep you posted, and hopefully post some pics of the final build
Thanks all for the help.
Oh just one quick question, I realised I have ordered the OEM hard drive. Will this mean it will not have any SATA cables with it?
|
OEM components do not come with anything but the component itself. The motherboard will have the SATA cables.

Total wash.
Pricing has it about the same as i7 while falling behind the i5 in most gaming relevant applications. however if you pour a disgusting amount of power into it (430 watts? lol) you get a processor that is around the level of i7 for gaming.
Is that what im getting from this?

Still waiting for the quadcore reviews!

I guess Anandtech and Xbit doesn't want their site to crash...
The FX8150 at 3.6GHz is on par with a Phenom II X4 980 at 3.7GHz according to HWC.
The FX4170 at 4.2GHz is worse than a Phenom II X4 980 at 3.7GHz according to Techspot.
Oh boy... much worse than what I was expecting. Another year of an Intel monopoly. I feel sorry for all those who had high expectations and had purchased an AM3+ board.
Lol at the power difference in bit-tech's article. At full load, its 244w from the wall at stock and 586w overclocked to 4.8GHz.

So this means I should wait for Ivy Bridge before I upgrade?

FX-4100 costs around 114 euros apparently
and it's very overclockable <_<

Are there any benchmarks of the FX-4100? It COULD be interesting for lower budgets if it can compete with the i3 2100.
|
TechSpot has a 4170 in their article and Lol it does not even come close to competing with a core i3 2100. It's performance is on par with / worse than a Phenom II.

Thank god FX8150 can WINRAR like nobody's business. Amirite?

Ah okay, just looked at it. Results arent that bad in games which support 4 cores (Crysis 2 right?). But Intel will still be preferred here.
I feel bad for AMD. Was always a fan for their nice "bang for the buck" approach...

Seems like anywhere this chip line is competitive with its respective intel partner, the power consumption is through the roof.

This is the most interesting one. Apart from this it slightly lost to Phenom x4 980 in the other 3 benches but as I said it's only 114 euros and phenom x4 980 is like 150.
|
That isnt really a good bench, all the values are the same almost.
EDIT: Then again a lot of these are really close.
I thought the performance difference in Crysis 2 between the 8150 and an 8150 with 430 watts pumped into it was hilarious. Hint: There was no difference.
|
Keep in mind the one being tested is a 4170 which isn't being released until I assume Q1 of 2012. The 4100 which is 600MHz slower is the one with a MSRP of $115 and is being released this year.
|
That's too bad. We needed AMD to hit this one out of the park. Now TL Tech forums is just gonna be us saying "intel" over and over for another year.
