I opened RealTemp about 5 seconds before Prime95! My old application used to jump to 85 in about 40 seconds!
Btw is there any reason to leave it at constant 4.2 GHz if I get the same vCore anyways with 1.6 GHz Turboboost OC mode?

Because holy shit the Thermalright HR-02 Macho is an amazing steal at $40 provided you can fit the thing in your case. I don't know... [H] reviewed it, and I'd call it fair, but not unexpectedly amazing for the price. I'm kind of of the opinion that if you crack the $25-30 tower cooler range on air, you should go for the top or near the top of the heap, not somewhere else in the middle. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/07/26/thermalright_hr02_macho_cpu_air_cooler_review/3 61C load on a 3.6Ghz 920 with 25C ambient doesn't really impress me all that much. It's good enough, but not so outstandingly better than a Gaia/212+ that it makes me have a hardware happypants or anything. And frankly, if you look at that review, yeah, it's impressive price/performance... if the next cheapest HSF you throw into the mix is 75% more... maybe a different review can sound more awesome, and less like a paid ad, but that one just made it seem reasonable at best. And that's a big honkin piece of metal to have hanging off your mobo. Oh wait. Asshats shouldn't have highlighted the no-fan version of it in their results. Much more impressive at 47C. And maybe I should read slower at midnight. The big honkin piece of metal comment still stands though.

I think I might've broken off the retention clip on the pci express slot, but it doesn't even look like there was one in the first place when I got it. The actual slot itself looks fine, theres just nothng for that last part of the fin on the video card to go into. This is my motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157236 and my GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604 Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't move the computer around too often with any of these heavy tower coolers but there shouldn't be any problems. People are fitting Noctua D14s and Thermalright Silver Arrows, both weigh close to 1kg, without any problems and you can probably ghetto rig some supports if you are worried about Try snapping or bending a PCB. Its actually really difficult to do it with your bare hands, you basically need to put your weight on it to actually seriously bend it.

Something else, I was looking at the Noctua NH-D14 recommended in the OP of this thread, and according to it's reviews, this HSF is really quiet, but fucking HUGE. The reviews say that it will be hard to install on small motherboards. Should I be concerned about large HSFs? Simply not fitting?

About your second question, you should be concerned about the size. There are two main things you should take into account: - RAM clearance. Some larger coolers, like the Noctua D14, will have trouble fitting if you use memory with heatspreaders. That is why when possible, I always recommend the most basic memory kits to prevent this from happening. - Case clearance. Some cases cannot fit tall tower CPU heatsinks due to insufficient width and/or huge side panel fans. The Noctua D14 (the Thermalright Silver Arrow is better in just about every way though) should fit in most cases that can fit 158mm tall CPU heatsinks. The main problem is memory clearance since its just so wide, which might be why those reviewers found it difficult to mount on small motherboards.

It's much more likely to unseat the CPU if your PC takes a whack, and the heavier your cooler, the better the chance it can damage the mounting holes if it gets bounced around. It's not so much a danger of breaking the mobo, as it is wearing down those holes or damaging the solder on the motherboard, that second one requiring not having all your standoffs in place. It's really kind of a gut call. It's mostly a concern if you move your PC a lot or have reasons to be concerned about it getting hit/shaken a lot, like toddlers or pets.

Without knowing what you are going to be using your computer for, we can't comment on how poorly optimized the build is. If it's for gaming than 6950 2GB is a waste of money, Phenom II X6 is a waste of money, 990x is a waste of money, 750w power supply is a waste of money, Caviar Black is a waste of money, ... SODIMM is not compatible with 990x... You want DDR3 SDRAM.

Did you disable the onboard GPU in the BIOS before plugging in the new GPU? I'm pretty sure this might be your problem.
