Thinking of buying this system, I know its expensive but I now have to chance to buy a nice gaming rig, and having a 'just okey' rig for the last 10 years. I can finally get something nice. Mainly SC2 will be played on it. Will be streaming aswell.

@Kiwiandapple If you're not high on the OC, paying extra for K is nonsense (normal i7-2600 or i5-2500 is still open of oc just not as much). Also the difference in abilities between i5 and i7 is much smaller than between 560 and 570. One more thing, without oc you wont unlock more then 1333Mhz from the ram since thats the max pcu is managing (even if mobo ic capable of going 2000+)
IMHO get i5-2500, some factory OC 570 (Gainward, Gigabyte of MSI), get 1333MHz RAM but whith CL8, and 64bit OS
It's more for the buck this way

Hey, i think that its time that i move on from my mac and upgrade to a custom built PC, any comments would be appreciated.
Budget: $500-800 I dont want top-of-the-line, i will probably play SC2 and most other games on low-medium graphics, i dont really need anything too crazy or expensive.
Resolution: 1680x1050
Use: Mostly gaming, with a small bit of streaming mixed in. Like I said, I don't want (or need) the best of the best, i mostly play SC2 and LoL right now.
Upgrade cycle: probably 2 years, I dont really see myself upgrading my computer.
Overclocking: No, I'm too scared to.
OS: Windows 7
SLI/Crossfire: I don't even know what that means, so i won't be doing that.
Source: Newegg, most likely.

-i5 2500k has the same erformance for gaming. Only get an i7 2600k if you want to do some editing/rendering. - Scythe mugen 2 rev b is better and cheaper than mugen 3. Another cheaper option is the Xigmatek gaia, which is easier to mount. Xigmatek gaia can reach the 4.5 ghz overclock without too much stress. - 1600mhz has nearly no adventage over 1333 mhz. You could save some money(without losing performance (1~3%maybe)), but I gues 1600 mhz is good for a bit more expensive pc. - Why pay the permium for the caviar black when you allready have an SSD? Just get a Caviar blue. - 650W is overkill a 560-ti only needs a quality 400-500W PSU. Good PSU for a good price is the XFX core 450W. There might be a better option, but I dont know where you are buying. 650W is enough for a 560-ti in SLI but if you want the option for SLI, you need a dif mobo.
[edit] If you dont mind ordering in germany(harwareversand.de) they have an english site and ship to belgium for 17.50. Do note that their service is pretty bad to non german speaking people:
8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 1600mhz CL9 46,20 Spinpoint f3 45,14 Super flower Golden Green 450W 64,04 GTX560-ti 185,42 Lite-on DVD/RW 17,69 Asrock p67 pro3 83,63 i5 2500k 175,48 Xigmatek gaia 21,31 Windows Home premium x64 74,51 Dont know what case you like, so pick it yourself.
Total: €713,42 + case and 17.50 shipping.
forgot the SSD. an M4 128 gb cost 165,89
new total: 879,31+ case and 17.50 for shipping.
You could upgrade the gpu to a 570 or 580. If you do upgrade the PSU to a Golden green 550W for 71 euro.

Xigmatek gaia is good for its money, but it's: a) Loud, always b) they add thermal paste in a little bag and it's a bitch to use without making a mess, also if you will need to remove your cooling for any reason you'll need to buy another paste
And like in earlier posts, for that money get i5-2500 (or K but only if you will oc it) and OC'ed gtx 570 or even 580

The Scythe Mugen 2 is definitely far easier to mount than the Xigmatek Gaia. Its a pretty simple bolt through system and doesn't cheap out and use DHT so all you have to do is apply a single dot in the middle of the CPU to get a perfect mount every time.
Its problem is that it requires a CPU motherboard cut out because that is where you are going to screw the bolts through...that's more or less a non-issue since every modern case has a huge CPU cutout.
Anyway, the Zalman Performa is the way to go through if you're using that Topachat website.

Xgimatek gaia is one of the most quiet coolers in this price range and certainly a lot more quiet than the CM hyper 212+

So ... can anyone help me with my mobo problem ??

The Z68 is only better than the P67 in terms of connectivity, and has integrated GFX
I'd recommend just going with a P67, and don't worry about getting gigabyte to match, it doesn't make a difference
|
Asrock is a sister company of ASUS and their boards are extremely good overclockers. The Asrock P67 Pro3 has basically the same amount of phases than the Gigabyte you're looking at but is much less expensive.
Gigabyte Z68 boards do not have capabilities to use the IGP. They just took the P67 PCB and put on a Z68 instead...
|
soooo, umm how about ? Asus P8P67 Pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131771 It's almost the same but it bas in build bluetooth
for Asrock i remember that their cards (even the pro and professional series) have problems with reaching 100MHZ cpu ratio not to even mention 103MHz (gigabyte can do that, asus too afaik) so you're stuck with 99,7 max. While it's not much of a drop it messes with multipliers and I just dont like that...
|
P8P67 Pro has the same amount of phases as the P8P67 standard so I don't see why you would pay a premium for Pro unless you plan on doing SLI, want the advanced RMA option, or want the Intel NIC.
The Asrock P67 Pro3 will reach 5GHz provided you have a good chip, just saying. If you are bus overclocking and want a 5.2 - 5.4GHz overclock than you'll want a premium board such as the Z68 UD4, UD5, or P8P67 / Z68 Deluxe.
Overclocking is done with multipliers so I don't understand what you're talking about... if you want a constant multiplier. All of the power saving features can be disabled on all the LGA1155 boards.

I wanted to thank all the people who helped me with my questions, computer is set up and amazing :D.

The real fun is that the intake on the PSU is stealing air from the CPU cooler. So yes, you could have some issues with airflow, as to whether it causes a problem, that's a more complicated question.
Okay. I have two 120mm mounts on my window over the cpu. What would be the optimal way to mount those? intake or exhaust?

No, I have the NH-U12P SE2. I've never used any other heatsink on my 2500k before so I can't tell you how it compares. D14 is a flagship heatsink and the C14 is just a downdraft variant of it so it provides airflow to surrounding components but the CPU temperature itself should be slightly worst than the D14 due to the downdraft design. High-end air heatsinks are much better than closed water loop heatsinks such as the H70 though.
|
hmmm, a D14 wont fit in the Zalman Z9 plus. I think I'm going to get the Corsair A70, it performs really well and is cheaper than the Hyper 212+ with the rebate.

I honestly don't know where to start, so any help would be fantastic. + Show Spoiler + What is your budget? I'd like to spend around $700, but am willing to spend ~800 if it's required for what I want.
What is your resolution? My resolution will be 1920x1080, through an HDMI cable.. if that matters
What are you using it for? I intend to be playing many a game on it (d3, starcraft 2, counterstrike GO, tf2, skyrim, dota2 etc.) If at all possible, I would like to be able to stream what I'm playing.
What is your upgrade cycle? I don't want to have to look around for a new computer/parts for at least 2 years, more if possible
When do you plan on building it? a month from now, most likely. Might be sooner because I just love what I see in this thread =)
Do you plan on overclocking? nope. Not unless it's required to stay in budget. I don't have experience with overclocking.
Do you need an Operating System? no, I will deal with that when I get there. I think I can get a cheap one from the comp store on campus.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope.
Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg, probably. I don't know of a place that has better prices. Maybe a cheap piece from Bestbuy because I have a giftcard. XD
I think that's all the questions. I hope the price range is feasible for what I want to do with it. That said, I love you guys and what you do for all these people. I did some more research and found that Asrock P67 Pro3 (B3) is not only cheap but also stupidly efficient!! It not only outperforms Gigabyte and ASUS opposition but even some more expensive Asrock models (Extreme4 and Extreme6 in most stats)
Thank you all and especially skyR for curing me from my bias. I have found my winner ^^
