Were you planning to keep it in a working brick oven?

Otherwise, no.

No problem. But no, that's not a build that will have issues unless your ambient temp sucks, you cover the intakes, and put it over a buffet warmer.

EDIT: I quoted the wrong person lol

To piggyback on what Molyd mentioned, there are TONS of tutorials on how to build a computer. One of the many helpful videos is the tutorial from newegg.

These videos are fairly recent too (2011). There are many more video tutorials out there but I feel this one got me excited the most to start thinking about building my own pc.

Alright. After looking at a few of people's posts I've decided to build my own computer. except I have no idea what to do with parts. Some advice would be really helpful.

+ Show Spoiler +

Budget: $800
Resolution: 1280 x 1024 , however I'm not sure whether I will be getting a larger monitor in the future.
Use: Gaming -to be able to play SC II/ Lol without lag and any future games that come out.
Upgrade Cycle: Looking to not upgrade for 2-3 years.
When: Now.
Overclocking: No
Second GPU: No
OS: No.
Where: newegg.com i assume, unless there are better prices somewhere else.

Thanks. Help is greatly appreciated.

I had a quick question with a build I was doing from this thread: I have a top mounted PSU, with an Antec Basiq 450. The PSU's fan is on the bottom. The issue is that there is a mount for a 120mm fan underneath the psu. My question: should I have a fan there? and if yes, should it be intake or exhaust? To be exact, look at this picture: [image loading]

I would have the same setup. I am concerned about if the fan would fight the PSU for air and prevent it from getting what it needs to work. Advice?

The PSU fan shown there is an intake, the fan in the back should be an exhaust. The real fun is that the intake on the PSU is stealing air from the CPU cooler. So yes, you could have some issues with airflow, as to whether it causes a problem, that's a more complicated question.

Pey, build looks good.. I might have to copy that. I wonder how the 6870 compares to the 6950, I hear the 6870 is a good power:cost ratio, however I just began looking into builds.

Anyone have suggestions similar to Pey's build but in a Small form factor? Does not have to be super small, but I dunno, Shuttle small but can fit a 6950? Thanks!

I have a build request as I haven't looked at this stuff in a long time (4 years)

What is your budget?

$1200-$1400

What is your resolution?

1x1980*1080 HDMI, 1x1440*900 DVI (I currently use 2x 1440*900 monitors, would like to have a larger primary monitor. If it's less than optimal to run a configuration in this way, I can take 1 monitor to work and the other is getting hung on a wall in my living room regardless on my old rig)

What are you using it for?

I'd like to have the capacity to game at Ultra settings (mostly SC2), FRAPS, and stream at the same time, while running SC2gears, iTunes, Skype and a number of other programs in the background all at the same time. I also do video editing work with Sony Vegas, mostly gaming videos.

What is your upgrade cycle?

Extended, typically 3-4 years minimum. This rig is currently working towards its fifth year, I was a broke college student for a long time :/

When do you plan on building it?

End of September

Do you plan on overclocking?

No, I don't have any experience in doing this. However, I'm relatively technically capable, so if this would help me down the road squeeze additional performance from the machine once it's aged a bit then yes I could do it. Considering I mostly just game though, I had it in mind to simply be SLI ready and just adding on a new GPU should the need ever arise.

Do you need an Operating System?

Yes, gonna run Windows 7 64-bit

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

See overclocking.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Newegg.com

Additional Comments:
Need a new case (Antec 900 will do just fine), 1x 1TB HD for storage and High-def playback, 1x80-120GB HD for applications, and of course the OS. Planning on recycling my current DVD burner drive.

Thanks a lot!!! I definitely need the help

Seems like you would be fine with
i7 2600
ATI 6870 or GTX 560 TI
8 GB DDR3 RAM

Without overclocking, you could easily make a build to fit all your needs and budget.

Good combos on i7 2600:

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC, I'm from Australia so please use http://www.ple.com.au for pricing

I have a Thermaltake 850w Powersupply and Cooler Master hyper 212+ heatsink that i will reuse in my new build along with my Antec 1200 case.

I would like a 120GB sata 3 SSD if my budget can allow it. If it is impossible to put it in for under $800 or just above $800 then I will leave it out. And when picking an SSD I would rather not touch OCZ as I just had an OCZ vertex 2 refunded as it died along with a lot of other people's SSD's dieing on forums. Even if they have improved I don't want to give them my money for the amount of headache I went through in getting it refunded. Corsair or Intel I've heard are reliable when it comes to SSD brands?

Thanks a lot to whoever helps.

My Budget?

$700 - $800

My Resolution?

1920 x 1080 on a 27" samsung monitor. I run a second monitor (samsung 21") for backround things like itunes youtube etc. but I don't use the second monitor for playing games.

What am I using it for?

Mainly for games. SC2, D3, Hon/Dota 2, all on max settings or close to max. I don't plan on using antialising or any of that stuff. Don't see a point when the difference isn't much for the amount of FPS drop.

What is my upgrade cycle?

3 years

When do I plan to build it?

Within a month or two.

Do I plan on overclocking?

Yes, if my budget allows for it, since I have a decent PSU and case with good cooling, I will most likely OC my CPU and OC my GPU a tad unless it is factory OC'd then I probably wont touch the GPU.

Do I need an Operating System?

Nope.

Do I plan to add a second GPU for crossfire/SLI?

Yes, there is a good chance that in a year or two when prices come down I may grab another GPU that is exactly the same as my GPU to run in SLI. I do not plan to go Tri SLI or quad, just dual SLI.

Where am I buying my parts from?

http://www.ple.com.au
or
http://www.austin.net.au

Overall Ple is cheaper on average, and i reckon if I can get everything from ple from their store I will get a slight discount, so unless Austin is a good amount cheaper just stick with PLE.

Hi,
I'm going to build new Pc soon but i have a little problem with mobo

for CPU i'm going with i5-2500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
for Graphic i think Gigabyte GTX 570 SOC
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125382

I'm planning to OC cpu up to 4,2 GHz and get 1600 (8,8,8) RAM

since i get Gigabyte graphic i was thinking of gigabyte Mobo and for now i chose Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128512
(its a good price and has Toms Hardware recommendation) but i'm still not sure.

I think that anywhere around 150$ for a mobo is ok for me, Asrocks are not an option since most of them does not OC very well.

I would appreciate any other Mobo options and opinions about this one.
Thanks for all replies in advance

if i want to achieve a fairly high overclock 4.5 GHz ++ and have good temps... what is a good cooler?

I know the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is great performance/$$ but I'm looking to spend a little more on better cooling.

I'm looking to spend around $50-$80.

I know that many enthusiasts like the Noctua NH-D14 and it has good performance if you look at different benchmarks. It's quite large though and depending on how noise sensitive you are you might go with water cooling. For 4,5 the noctua is more than enough though in pure cooling capacity.

For cooling i'm going with Noctua NH-D14, no other option there xD I'm a fanboy and cant afford wc

Edit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008008&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&CompareItemList=575|35-181-010^35-181-010-TS,35-209-049^35-209-049-TS,35-181-015^35-181-015-TS
those "compact" wc units while quite efficient tend to be quite loud

Edit2:
from my experience,

Noctua NH-D14
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018
is as efficient as CORSAIR H80 WCU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181016

while at the same time being cheaper and more quiet (those fans are big but slow so they don't make so much noise, Corsairs Fans at the same time are faster and need to be bolted to the case)

but like i said, I'm Noctua's fanboy xD
