It really depends what you're looking for. You'd get much more performance out of an i5 2400 or an i5 2500k if you'd like to overclock. Processors are also much cheaper if you live near a Fry's or Microcenter rather than newegg. You'd consequently need a different socket (particularly the 1155). However, it'd be nice to know what you're using the setup for in particular (mostly gaming?), what your budget is, etc. This power supply is a better make (essentially a remake) of the one you listed http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020, although you can definitely find a cheaper one that's still of high quality. Could you possibly make a build for me off Newegg? This comp is for gaming and I'd prefer it to be around the $1000 range. Go with SkyR's build, he helped me build my own computer, and honestly I'd say at least 50% of my computer knowledge has come literally from this thread (not just him, but I'd garner he's the most knowledgeable of all posters, with the exception maybe of Myrmidon tying him). The rest is coming from personal experience and reading a lot of articles online when I'm bored at work .

Whether it's worth it is subjective and what you should do is also subjective and also depends on what you are trying to accomplish. More RAM can always be added later if you are in need of more whereas changing the graphics card is a much bigger investment.

If you end up buying the RAM and needing more GPU, you're kind of screwed, they don't sell a fraction of one of those.

It is only $10 more than http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.684226 BUT I get a 6870 and still 8GB of RAM. also, is an overclock on an i5 2500k to 4.5 - 4.9 GHz noticeable over a 2400 or 2500 stock? I plan on playing SC2 1900x1200 and streaming at a decent quality.

6850 for $155: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150505 8GB for $45: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231311 Total = $200 Yes, an overclocked 2500k is noticeable over a stock processor depending on the task: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i7-2600k-990x_9.html#sect2 With a core i5 2400, you would be running 4 cores at 3.1GHz. With an overclocked 2500k, you would be running 4 cores at 4.5GHz or whatever value you end up picking.

I can get that for $220 then the $30 MIR puts it at $190. But then I get a 6870. EDIT: What do you guys think of this combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.693976 ? I like the challenger case. is that PSU sufficient for a 2500k OC and a 6870??

What is your budget? Probably max $1000. I'm willing to spend a bit more for performance wise and durability since I won't be upgrading my computer for a long time. What is your resolution? 1920 x 1080. What are you using it for? Casual gaming. Recording music. All the light stuff, but I would like to have good graphics (medium setting) to play SC2 in and hopefully run Diablo3 smoothly when it comes out. What is your upgrade cycle? 2+ years. I won't be spending anymore money on the computer once I've built it. When do you plan on building it? By September before school would be ideal. Do you plan on overclocking? Nope! Sounds too hardcore for me. Do you need an Operating System? No. Running on Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No. Don't know what it is =( Where are you buying your parts from? I live in Vancouver, Canada, so I'm buying the parts from NCIX. I see the links you guys provide are from newegg, but I believe they require some shipping fees? I would like to reduce my costs as much as possible, so if newegg provides prices lower than NCIX even with shipping fees, I'll go with newegg. EDIT: Forgot to mention I already have a monitor, and a 1 TB harddrive (Western Digital WD Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM) Thanks a lot guys!

Like i go and buy some i7 thing, if thats possible to go and buy can i just get some guy to stick it into the computer? And can this be done with all parts? Thanks Yes to your first question of adding all the parts to a computer(?). A computer is made up of multiple things such as the processor, motherboard, graphics card, memory, harddrive, and power supply so essentially you can change all of it (I think this is what you're asking?) -_- No to your adding i7 question. Think of computers as lego or a puzzle as you will. There are multiple pieces and often times, a piece will only fit with one other piece. For an i7 to fit, you need a certain socket motherboard to fit it. "Sorry, the combo deal is no longer available. " Clicked on the first link and got that
