Okay, so here's the build as it stands:

Total comes to $744.67 before shipping, tax, MIR, or pricematching. Is there anything that needs changing? Any deals that have come up I should be aware of?
Which parts, if any, would you recommend seeing if I could buy from Canada Computers instead of NCIX?
Also, I don't need SATA3 right? Pretty pointless, I assume, for what I have. I'm going to need Windows 7, but that doesn't need to be factored in to the budget. However, if I used the .edu email deal from Microsoft, would I download the file, put it onto a cd and then install like that? I know it's an upgrade version and technically you shouldn't be able to do that, so I'm a little confused as to how to go about doing that.

Frostytech recommends the Xigmatek Loki, but do they test OC, or just stock speed?

NCIX has stores in the GTA, so that's another option instead of shipping, so you could basically buy all your components from whichever store sells it for cheaper and completely avoid paying shipping charges.

Unfortunately, I don't think I have time to make a trip to Toronto just out of the blue. I think I'd rather order online or buy from canada computers.
|
But it does help ensure even testing across platforms etc so one temp is exactly comparable to another. only issue is different cpu layouts are effected by coolers slightly differently but a consistent test is probably better.

@scarymeerkat
You should try and see if you can get everything at Canada Computers since they offer price matching. It'll save you shipping and shipping insurance.
Do you already have that Corsair CX430 V2 in your cart and the price is still valid? There's no longer any CX430 V2 for $35 in Canada that I'm aware of.
The next best thing is the XFX Core Edition 450 for $47: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=15180AC2804 , $37 after mail in rebate.
If you're not looking to add an SSD later, SATA3 isn't important.
|
About the Canada Computers thing, how does their pricematching work? If I walk into their store, can we pull up different sites and have them pricematch like that...lol? Or is the pricematching an online only thing? But it sounds like a good idea.
Well, I do have it in my cart, and it says the deal expires 3 days from now. You can still get to the deal's page if you click the link you gave me on pg 310.
EDIT: Also, can you please shed any light on the windows 7 situation? I'm completely unsure of what to do with regards to that...
|
You just walk in the store and show them the link or page. They'll go online to check if its still in stock and that the price is still valid.
|
Ty for the information about Frotytech, but does their results (ie best heatsink) also applies to overclocking?
I'm going to close my computer soon and see if i can play around with the side cooler. If not, I'll probably stick with the Xigmatec loki, unless something else gets recommended and that is better ^^

Anybody know the difference between "Mail-in Rebate" and "Mail-in Rebate Card" on Newegg?
|
Hey guys I just bought and downloaded windows 7 (legally) and I'm awaiting my parts to come in this week. Is it possible for me to install from a flash drive or will I need to burn to a blank DVD? I've got the .iso image on my desktop right now and I can download the .exe file instead if I need to.

@firexfred
Pretty sure they're the same thing, it might just a different way of wording it or a different process. A card might be something you receive with the product while the non-card might be a form you fill out online and print it out.
@Uhh Negative
Yes you can install it from a USB stick. You just need to make it bootable.

Sets it up to tell your BIOS It's bootable media when your BIOS is set to boot from USB first.
Guide for doing so for Win7/Vista.

At 29.99$, is the corsair A70 a good buy? I read on the forums and may have found a solution to my 150mm restriction!

No reason to buy the Corsair A70 when Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is available for ~$20.
