Both of those cards have as much memory as they need unless you were trying to run really high resolution with max eye candy off single card. And no, 1080p is NOT really high resolution.

But if I were going to do the multiple monitor setup, would the 1.2 or 1.5 be enough? I'm pretty convinced both 570/580,heck, even my 5770, are enough to run what I play right now at 1080.
Granted, I'm still far from finishing my Eyefinity or Surround ^^, so having a better GPU might help me play everything until I can afford the rest....
If I were to update my cpu/mobo, that will cost me around 300$, with 200$ coming from my friend who will buy my used 1055/890 mobo. I may be able to grab a new GPU or a second monitor. 2 TN panel (that are bad, according to all) would cost me around 300 And finally, and not the least, 2 video card would cost me 250-400 each, say 600 for 2.
Alot of money -.-

Well, basically, every game is different as far as how high you can crank things on what resolution.

Good resource. Bear in mind, once you go SLI, you have more resources to work with. It isn't 100% scaling in most games, but it's getting close for AAA titles. Not so sure how Surround works compared to SLI though, for resource utilization.

VRAM matters when dealing with resolutions above 1080P and high quality settings, though the only games I feel Surround/Eyefinity actually works is with FPS games and the most popular ones aren't hugely system intensive. Realistically the best option are those GTX580s with 3GB of memory but you can literally get two HD6970s with the price of those.

Unfortunately if you decide to go with Nvidia instead of AMD, you'll want to consider a new power supply. The GTX 570 and 580 require a lot more power than a 6950 2GB. You'll be pushing your Seasonic unit to its limits with a SLI configuration with either of the two cards.

Hello good sirs
What is your budget? Around 700 dollars.
What is your resolution? 1650 - 1050.
What are you using it for? Mostly gaming. Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Dota 2.
What is your upgrade cycle? 2-3 years.
When do you plan on building it? Within the next week.
Do you plan on overclocking? No, i dont think so.
Do you need an Operating System? No, i dont need a OS.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No.
Where are you buying your parts from? I was thinking about "pixmania". I am from Norway and they have a norwegian version of pixmania with the same products as the other pixmania`s.
So if someone could find me a good build at "http://www.pixmania.co.uk" i would be very grateful I was thinking about something like: i5 2400, hd 6850, etc etc.
Thanks alot :D

A budget in kroner would be more helpful. Google tells me about 3750? The pricing of products in USD doesn't translate well to norwegian pricing ...

The prices in Norway are very expansive compared to the US. The budget 700 dollars is around 4000 norwegian kroners. My budget in Norwegian kroner is around 5000 kroners, which is 860 dollars. But i wont get that much out of the money because of the expensive prices. Thats why i said around 700 dollars just so i could a rather decent build. Because i can easily extend the budget be a 100 dollars. I dont if what im saying makes sense but yeah . Norway suck, everything is fucking expensive.
OK, so my budget is 5000 norwegian kroners = 860 dollars = 550 british pounds. =S
Sorry for bad english !

Alright guys. The time for my order is getting close. I think I want to do it sometime next weekend. Right now I'm deciding on a case and I think I'm getting an Antec 300 Illusion. The only difference between it and the regular Antec 300 is that the Illusion has blue LEDs on all 4 fans, whereas the regular version has no LEDs and comes with 2 fans with the places to install two more 120mm in the front that already come with the Illusion. Also, the Illusion is $10 more which seems very worth it for two more fans. If I don't really like the blue LEDs I can always cut the wires. Most reviews seems to say this case is great especially at the $69.99 price point which also works well for my budget.
So... now I need to know whether my parts will fit in there. I'm not 100% sure on a GPU yet but I've been looking at a 560ti which is 9". The motherboard I'm probably getting is a GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 which I'm assuming will work with the case. That's just something I can assume, right? The other issue is if the cooler is going to fit. I'm probably going with a XIGMATEK Gaia SD1283 120mm as recommended by Skyr to OC my i5 2500k. I looked at some reviews for this HSF to confirm and it looks like it's fairly quiet and cools well, all at a low price!
As far as an HDD goes, right I'm just going with a 500GB Caviar Blue. I don't think I want a SSD at this time.
Oh, and can anyone recommend me a reliable wireless card? I kind of forgot I'm going to need one of those as well. I should probably get a PCI-E card over a USB adapter, right?

@ Snaxy Have a look at www.hardwareversand.de Their prices are better than pixmania and they ship to Norway for a flat fee of €33 no matter how much you order. 5000 kroner works out as €640. Look at something like:
Phenom II X4 955 HD 6870 Xigmatek Asgard Case Superflower Amazon 450W PSU 4 GB DDR3 RAM Asus M4A77T motherboard Spinpoint F3 500GB Any DVD-RW
Dont have time to check prices now but that should be within budget. Might even be able to squeeze an i5 out of it.

ok, ive come up with this,
+ Show Spoiler +Intel Core i5 2400 to 3.1 GHz - L3 6 MB
ASUS P8H67 M-LE (rev B3) - Socket 1155
A-DATA Gaming Series XPG - Memory - 4 GB: 2 x 2 GB
Hard Drive Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ Desktop Class
LG Burner Internal DVD ± RW 22x SATA GH22NS50
MSI Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 560 OC Twin Frozr II
Corsair Power Supply PC CX430 - 430 W
Total Amount 4 809.58 NOK Inc. VAT
I've realized the pricing is indeed hella expensive Note there's no case, leaving that to you to decide what you like, but adding one will send you over the budget, so some notes:
The build is actually pretty powerful. The graphics card is much more powerful than the 6850 you originally thought of - in fact, it rivals the the 6950. So obviously, a way to save money is to pick a less powerful card.
For the motherboard, the main feature of this selection is SATA6, incase you might buy a fast SSD down the road. If you have no intentions of doing that, get this cheaper board: http://www.pixmania.com/no/no/9629253/art/asus/p8h61-m-le-usb3-rev-b3-so.html
Further, you can save about ~44 kr by going to an i5-2300. Do note that SC2 is really only optimized for dual core, so even the i3-2100 will run it blazingly fast, which is almost 400kr cheaper. A quad core will really only help if you want to do some serious streaming.
ninja edit: check out deconduo's link too to compare pricing

@Uhh Negative
The Antec Three Hundred is roughly eighteen inches in length and eight inches in width so it should have room for graphics cards up to ten inches long and maybe even eleven as well as the Xigmatek Gaia or any hetasink under 170mm. All mATX and ATX motherboards will fit in any ATX case.
Yes you should get a PCI-E or PCI card over USB.

Woaw, Thanks alot )). Thats a much more powerfull build then i was hoping for at that price :D:D:D. Thanks a bunch !

So I've come up with this build: + Show Spoiler + Can someone confirm I didn't fail horribly at choosing all these things? I want to be able to play games on medium-high settings, and I want room to upgrade in the future.

Its a pretty powerful build. Firstly, I'd go through the products and try to find combo savings; will be near the bottom of the page ... click the link to view all available combos, you can save quite a bit with higher end gear.
For the 1TB drive, you don't need a super fast caviar black for that if you're only going to be using it for storage. Also, the 64gb SSD will be about 55gb~ after formatting, so consider that size with what you want to install and run on the drive.
edit: the crucial 64gb has about the same read speed for $125: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357
Lastly, you can drop the PSU to a much lower wattage and a save a bundle; as it stands now, you'd barely break 300watts under load with that setup.

If you're worried about medium/high settings, I'm going to guess that you're not interested in dealing with multiple graphics card setups and gaming across multiple monitors. Correct me if I'm wrong. A ~$250 GPU is enough to run current games on very high settings. You can always upgrade to a better one whenever you want.
For just a single-GPU setup, your motherboard and power supply (and case) are way overkill.
Currently on newegg, the best value heatsink for overclocking a i5-2500k is probably the Xigmatek Gaia at $30: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082

I'm getting that heatsink. I have a question though. Do I need to buy thermal paste for it? I know the stock coolers have paste already pre-applied but do aftermarket coolers come with their own paste? I think I have a friend who has some extra paste from his build if I need some.
|
Thermal paste is included with the heatsink and most of these are pretty decent that you don't have to buy aftermarket thermal paste if you don't want to.
