Would most probably be cutting it close. I'd suggest a 80+ 600W PSU instead.

@Zerokaiser

Sound card is not necessary if you do not have an expensive sound setup. All modern motherboards have integrated sound that will be perfectly fine.

430w is more than enough to handle a budget configuration.

USB comes from the motherboard and case.

You said you needed Windows 7 so I included that with in the price. You also did not list a case so I assume you need one.

The graphics card in the configuration below is slightly worse than the 6950 1GB but not by much. It'll easily run Starcraft 2 and other games on ultra on 1920x1080.

Here's a configuration that comes to $722 before mail in rebates, promotional offers, shipping, taxes, and other fees:

Max load means nothing when your PSU only has one 12v rail at 34 amps. It would definitely be cutting it close.

Please enlighten me how max load differs on a single 12v and multi 12v rails.

A GTX 560 and core i5 2400 configuration is not going to pull anywhere near 34a in a gaming scenario.

Because it's a shitty PSU with a greatly inflated max wattage that would likely not hold up under constant 85-90% capacity?

Sorry, saying a power supply is shitty doesn't explain how max load differs on single and multiple 12v rails. You make it sound as multiple 12v rails is better so please explain your reasoning.

34a on the 12v rail is pretty common for most high quality 400-500w power supplies so I'm not sure why you think this number is inflated.

Calling a Seasonic power supply shitty clearly shows that you have no idea what you are talking about.

34A on 12V is 408W, about 90% of 450W. There's nothing to complain there.

It's possible to have a bad Seasonic power supply, even one based on the good design of the old Corsair VX450 / (original) Earthwatts 500W, but they're kind of rare. If a company asks for lower quality and for corners to be cut, they will be cut:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=209

But the XFX Core 450W is not bad. Ripple is typical Seasonic (very good), build quality is decent, internals are good, etc. It held up easily at a little over 100%. One valid issue you could bring up is that at least jonnyguru's sample was tested to have unusual voltage regulation:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=224

However, under much more realistic 3.3V/5V loads, voltage regulation was normal and very good. (Honestly now, what modern computer is going to draw 120W from 3.3V/5V on a 450W power supply?):
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=225

Kitguru's sample also showed no issues:
http://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/xfx-pro-series-450w-and-550w-power-supply-review/

What is your budget?

500-600, as low as I can get it, honestly

What is your resolution?

1600x1200. I still have a 21" crt that I like.

What are you using it for?

Gaming and Audio engineering.

I've been using the same rig for 5 years, a Athlon 3500+ 64 bit processor and a Radeon x800, so I am used to not playing everything maxed out, and I am fine with keeping it that way to save some money. (I don't know a lot of the relative cost to how good shit looks anymore)

Although for the audio engineering, which will not be the main rig for it, more a side project/mess around box, I'd like to keep the 4 cores and hopefully get 8gigs of ram, midi based stuff hogs memory. If it is possible to sneak that in, that would be excellent.

What is your upgrade cycle?

3+ years, easy

When do you plan on building it?

As soon as I can, within the week hopefully

Do you plan on overclocking?

Nope

Do you need an Operating System?

Yes, and it is already in the list!

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

Nope!

Where are you buying your parts from?

Newegg, mostly. Unless there is a better deal on another site, whatever is most convenient. Located in the states

As far as I know, majority of the time its just one 12V source split up to multiple limited outputs so its still essentially a one rail design anyway. True multi-rail designs are rare as hell, not even the best power supplies like the Corsair AX series, Antec CP series, or Seasonic X series are true multi-rail designs.

No one here can trouble these designs anyway with what they're running, I don't think anyone here is running systems that you find over at [H]ardocp.

Do you already have a boot drive? You would want a 7200 RPM drive such as a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB for $55: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

If you're just looking for a storage drive, the Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB is currently on sale for $75: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245

An Antec Earthwatts 380w for $40 would be capable of powering your configuration: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033

For a budget build, you probably want to use less money on a case. Just get a simple case such as the Coolermaster Elite 330 for $40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115

It looks like you don't mind dealing with mail in rebates. If that's the case, the ASUS GTX 460 768mb DirectCU for $155 ($125 after mail in rebate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390 would be a better option than the MSI Radeon 5770 Twin Frozr. There's also no reason in paying a premium for a Twin Frozr 5770. A Sapphire 5770 for $115 ($95 afater mail in rebate) would work just as well.

Yeah, the dinosaur of a computer I have now is still on windows Xp, so going to need the spinpoint, but 1tb should be enough for now!

Any real differences between the 460 and the 5770? From what I can gather the 460 is just a small step above the 5770, but it dons't look like it would make such a big difference.

So, right now I have

Not enough to make something unplayable on the HD5770 playable on the GTX460 768mb.

The Gigabyte P67 UD3 or Asrock P67 Pro3 would be better options. You'll also want a aftermarket heatsink such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for overclocking.

Well I asked that question about the power supply because I haven't ordered the video card but ordered the power supply so i guess I will hope it works and if not will just buy a better one after I get it all setup. How will I know that it isn't enough power? Will my computer just crash randomly or something?

The power supply is more than capable of handling your config, don't be too concerned because of one ignorant person saying otherwise.
