...look http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/680?vs=539 650 ti actually is on par/ exceeds the hd 6850 EDIT: whooops i put 550 ti before the link..its actually 650 ti, srry
2nd he's on a budget, i desgined it to include tax too 700, so yes while 7850 is better for the buck, i dunno if hes willing to spend the extra money
and the one i linked him is 105 after 20 mail in rebate, about the same as yours but better quality

Would it make sense to get a Rosewill Capstone 450W (If you're going to spend 60$ on the PSU) and a cheaper case, so that he has more money for other components?
Also, mail in rebates are really bad to shop with imo, they can take like 6 months before you get any money back.
|
380D is fine for cost saving. You can also get a Corsair CX though for like 35 bucks.
|
the 7850 still stays vastly superior to the gtx650ti for not that much more

I dunno, I had problems with Rosewill before so I usually never buy Rosewill products and can't comment on it. Instead he should go (actually looked for deals now) CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 430W - 40 after rebate: EMCJJND22 (20 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026
Case:Antec Gaming Series One Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - 50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129181

Yes we know... its the question is if he can afford the extra cost of "increased performance"

as i just took off more 30$ more off the PSU and case in yoru build which fits his budget, and the rest of the build being good, yes he can

I have an unusual help request. My secondary monitor makes an extremely annoying buzzing or humming noise when i put my computer in a sleep state or turn it off. As such, whenever I went to bed I would yank out the power cord from the back of the monitor and wiggle the power cord back in every morning when I would wake up. After three or four years of doing this, it no longer wants to cooperate and fails to turn on. I have tried an alternate power cord and it failed to power on. I am unsure of how I might be able to fix this and any help would be appreciated.

You might have a clue if you can open it up and know what to look for (note: insides probably contain a SMPS including one or more capacitors that may be holding a voltage at something around the level of the mains voltage, i.e. dangerous), but maybe that's not a good idea. In fact, if you need to ask about these things, maybe you don't want to handle this.
If there's a solder joint that failed, that can be fixed by resoldering, but it could be something else. Maybe you'd find popped capacitors or something of that sort, though that seems unlikely.

I am at my dorm right now and do not have access to proper tools to take it apart at the moment. Assuming that I am unable to repair my monitor, would a really really cheap monitor like this be adequate for the purpose of being a secondary monitor for skype and media?

Hey guys, I just built a new computer. Had no trouble getting Windows installed etc. Booted up, motherboard drivers installed fine and everything. I am trying to install the display drivers for my graphics card (EVGA GTX 650) and it says there's no compatible graphics hardware. I thought it might just be DOA, but the GPU fan is running. Does anybody know what I should be doing? Just download drivers from Nvidia?
|
|
I'm still getting "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."
Does the fact that the fan is running mean that it should be working? Or is it probably dead?
Edit: GPU-Z doesn't detect it does that mean I need to return it/exchange?
|
Did you plug in the 6pin PCIe connector?
|
Edit: Not sure what changed, but I got it working. Yay!
So in my 64GB SSD, I have 52GB used right now, but I'm not sure how. Checking the properties in each folder shows only ~35-36 GB used, which makes sense (fresh install, only things that I should have on it are new Windows, GW2, and SC2 plus chrome, and some other random files). Where is all this extra storage coming from?
|
Hibernate, pagefile, and system restore all take up disk space. If you aren't going to use hibernate than disable it / remove the file. You can turnoff or lower the space used for pagefile and system restore as well.
|
Is there a minimum pagefile I shouldn't go below? It was at 8GB, I just reduced it to the "recommended" 4.5GB, is there any reason I can't go lower/how low can I go?
Edit: Can I just set a pagefile on my HDD and get the same result?
|
No there isn't. You can do whatever you want with the pagefile.
|
Pagefile access is mostly reads, mostly things that you want to happen fast. IMHO it's one of the top things you should want on an SSD.
