does anyone know what causes a black streak to sometimes pop up as I move my cursor in starcraft 2? I just built the PC, 3570k/asrock z77/GTX 460/8 GB RAM/corsair cx430/w7 64bit.

GET a GTX670...

Good day gentleman I was referred here from the topic thread in the starcraft forums, I welcome your input (being technologically illiterate and all xP).
I have 3 to 4K to budget on (though less is fine :3). I live in New Zealand (Auckland, come see me sometime ) I would like to create a rig that has exceptional performance for gaming (and can play videos, process words, browse well, etc etc. not SIMPLY a gaming rig)
being not so experienced in this, I've simply stolen the ideas of others. One is this. What do you think?
1TBx2 HDD 16GB DDR3 RAM Cosmos II/Silverstone TJ07 CASE Corsair Gold AX850/Seasonic Platinum-860 PSU GTX 670x2 GPU ---> or a 690 x 1 i7 2600k CPU Asus P8Z77 WS MOBO --> some random 120Hz Monitor
Given my situation, I'm simply sounding out what is good and awesome, and confirming it with multiple parties. Any ideas and tips you have will be welcomed.
On a related note: I have no idea where to buy from in New Zealand (or that will ship here without gouging me T_T) if any of you know the sites or companies that have WHAT I want and can SHIP it, you'd really be helping me out. This computer will be a beast, an amalgamation that will divide by zero and graphically display the results in realtime...while loading Itunes o_o!

Here's the problems with your build.
- no heatsink - no SSD - Platinum 860 is not comparable to AX850 - 850w is not needed for such a configuration. - core i7 is a waste of money for gaming and word processing lol. - 16gb is a waste of money for the above. - P8Z77 WS is unnecessary for a newb. - Why not Ivybridge?

- Depending on prices, ditch the 1TB hard drives and get a 2TB Green Drive. Get a 128GB SSD while you are at it. - Ditch the 16GB of memory and just get the cheapest 8GB you can find. - Cosmos II is OK but the TJ07 is an awful case outside of watercooling. Find something cheaper, Corsair has some nice good looking cases that don't look cheap. Remember: the smaller the case, the easier to air cool. The largest case in the world is not useful if it is empty half the time. - Ditch the stupidly overpriced motherboard and get the cheapest Asus/MSI Z77 motherboard with 2x PCI Express (aka PCIe) 16x slots (this should be every single one on the market). PCI Express 3.0 and 2.0 are basically the same for gaming.
That's the basics of it. The GPU, CPU, and monitor will depend on what exactly what you want to do. Saying gaming isn't very helpful. Do you play lots of FPS games like Counter Strike or do you just play Starcraft? Do you want to stream? When you buy computer hardware, you buy within a context.
Its like buying a fridge or washing machine. Sure you can buy the biggest and baddest fridge on the market but its not much point if its empty half the time and you don't use the cold water feature. It'll just sit there taking up a lot of space, waste a lot of electricity, and be annoying to move because its so huge.

If I understand well the applications you require this rig to be able to do, you are spending waaay to much.
16GB ram is too much Get 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD i7 is not necessary unless you plan on OC it like a beast Graphics cards seems a little bit over the top tbh, unless youre going to play BF3 and crysis maxed on the same screen.
|
good point, thanks for the advice. What I want to do is stream, and play online games with high graphical requirements. I play WoW, Skyrim, Tera, SC2, The Witcher...minecraft xD. There are more, but hopefully that sums up more to do with the food in my fridge. I would like to be able to stream.
I don't mind additional expense, I intend whatever the allknowing internet throws my way to last quite a long time. With any luck it will perform well for games years and years from now. You see I have no idea what I'm doing XD. I really appreciate the assistance.

If you want to stream the i7 might be a solution then.
[Edit: and the games you name are not "high demanding" games"]
But keep in mind:
You dont need more than 6-8gb of ram unless youre using photoshop or other heavy ram users (sony vegas, aperture...basically any video/photo application)
The main difference between i7 and i5 is that i7 allows hyperthreading which can be used for streaming but mainly for programming applications and such.
Unless youre really gonna use it, the only reason to buy 2TB HDD is to increase performances by only using a small part of your HDD. But since now you can afford a SSD that will run faster anyway, better go this way (and then you can stuff your 1TB HDD nearly as much as you want)

For those games, you can probably get away with an AMD HD7850 GPU. Since you want to stream, you probably want an Intel Core i7-3770K processor. As Skyr said, you're missing a CPU heatsink. The cheapest will probably be a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo or something similar.
For games like that, I'm not entirely sure a 120hz screen will benefit you very much. Fantastic for twitch gaming but not so much for less fast paced games, if you get what I mean. Without knowing the prices, its hard to recommend monitors.

here, let me take a page out of someone who was less dumb than me in their approach
hey guys, well here's mine:
What is your budget? $3000 absolute maximum
What is your resolution? 1920x1080
What are you using it for? Numerous online games SC2 Tera WoW, hoping to stream, browsing, graphics programs a possibility
What is your upgrade cycle? hoping for at LEAST 3 years
When do you plan on building it? no set date
Do you plan on overclocking? unlikely
Do you need an Operating System? yes
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No (someone recommended I get 1x 690 GPU)
Where are you buying your parts from? Auckland NZ (or via online shipping)
Additional notes: Because I am a noob, I am very bad at knowing what to do.Suggestions and support are much appreciated.

Hi guys, i'm doing a brand new build under the following specs:
Motherboard Intel Desktop Board DZ77GA-70K Extreme Series - motherboard - ATX - LGA1155 Socket - Z77 - LGA1155 Socket - Retail HDD Western Digital 2TB SATA 6Gbps Power Saving Internal Hard Drive OEM - Caviar Green SSD 128GB 2.5-inch SATA III Samsung SSD drive 830 series Graphics eVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Graphics card - 2 GB - GDDR5 SDRAM CPU I7-3770K RAM Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V Non-ECC Unbuffered Case Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black [RC-692B-KKN5] PSU OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply [OCZ-ZS550W-UK]
This is actually all concrete now and I've ordered nearly all of the parts, but what I do need help with is i need a wireless card and I'm hoping TL can point me in the right direction for a decent one. I have a fairly slow connection and have had issues with it before, the router is also a fair distance from my computer, and I intend to use this machine for streaming if that helps.
EDIT: forgot to include, my router is a BT home hub 3.0

What I know I have: Processor AMD Athlon II X4 630 Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9100 Current Display Mode: 1600 x 900 That's all I know that I have. Im looking to upgrade to where games will be less laggy. So upgrade Graphic card? I really have no idea. Price Range would be fairly low maybe ~$200. I just really have no idea how these things go in price. Any help is appreciated.
