+ Show Spoiler + Considering the long upgrade cycle, I went with a good power supply and a not-quite-cheapest motherboard. Other selections are on the cheaper side, to get significantly under $900. The case is kind of suspect though, but even if it has build quality issues or if fans die, it's not like it needs all the fans to be running, or that the case being poor would make the computer stop working. I'd really recommend upgrading the video card if desired before 5 years though. Core i5-3450 AsRock B75 Pro3 - $270 total http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.910000 Team 2 x 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM - $41 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313255 Gigabyte GTX 460 - $140 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125412 Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB Samsung CD / DVD burner - $77 total http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.936994 Rosewill Capstone 450W Rosewill Future - $105 total http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.915283 Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit OEM - $100 (but with $20 promo gift card) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 edit: personally I'd recommend adding an SSD to that, but some people don't care much about boot or application load times, or general system responsiveness. Intel 330 60GB is $80, and even good 120-128GB SSDs like Crucial M4 / Samsung 830 / Intel 330 are only around $125 these days, still under budget. So basically this build should fit all my demands, but i have a few questions: -Poor me, i'm living in belgium, where could i get my components from (website or local retailer) and get my new rig built? -I've seen the exact same build (quoted from myrmidon as well) but with a i5 3550 instead of 3450. Is that a typing error or is there some difference? -Let's say i wanna spend like 50 € more on the graphics card, what should i go for? Sorry for bad english and many thanks!

The difference between the i5-3550 and i5-3450 is 200mhz clock speed. A HD6870. Will hardwareversand.de ship to Belgium? EDIT: Yes they do ship to Belgium.

I have some leftover parts, a 500gb western digital harddrive and a fractal design core 1000 case. I was wondering if you guys can suggest me some other parts that fit the given case so I can make another computer for gaming purposes. What is your budget? Less than $400 for the remaining parts. What is your resolution? 1440x900 What are you using it for? Gaming for Sc2, D3 What is your upgrade cycle? About 3 years. When do you plan on building it? ASAP Do you plan on overclocking? Nope Do you need an Operating System? Nope Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope Where are you buying your parts from? Newegg, Tigerdirect, Amazon, NCIX Thank you. So I am thinking about these parts. What do you guys think? CD/DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138329 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103911 Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220480 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127666 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033 Which comes up to about $283. They must all fit into the fractal core 1000 case, so do they all fit? And is this a good deal or do I need to change some things around? My cousin might upgrade to a better monitor in the future, so I hope to get a build that satisfies his current monitor resolution and can be used for better resolutions up to 1920x1080 should he choose to get a new monitor.

- Is there a meaningful difference between Sapphire HD 7850's and others, such that I should wait until NewEgg gets more Sapphires in stock? - Can you compare and contrast these motherboards and tell me which is better? I did some myself but I don't know how to properly weight the differences. For instance, the second link has one more PCI slot, but is it crucial? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157306 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.909999 Thanks again. Here's what I have so far overall, in case you'd like to critique: http://i.imgur.com/wY1kV.jpg (it's sans graphics card and I've replaced the RAM depicted with the Team RAM that Myrmidon suggested)

Pretty simple. B75 doesn't support OC and Z77 does. You have no PSU listed. Rosewill Capstone 450w is 80+ Gold (>87% efficiency at 20/50/80% load) $70 (10% OFF with Promo code PSUMAY10) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066 You could also get the Modular version for an extra $10. ($80) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182261 OR you could get an 80+Bronze (>82% efficiency at 20/50/80% load) such as the PC Power and Cooling Mark III Modular 400w for $50 AMIR. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703035

I did have a PSU but I guess it didn't go through when I clicked. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017 Since I'm not OCing, there's no other meaningful differences between the two motherboards I listed? That makes things a lot easier. Which HD 7850 would you recommend in terms of cooling and clock?

The HIS 7850 looks good. $250 ($230AMIR) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161406

He's also not mentioning what settings he plays those games on. I'll give you a hint, it's not maxed. A used PC is generally a bad idea unless you know the seller.

I was looking at buying one of the 128GB M4s (Can get them for around £77 GBP, only about £9 more than I paid for my 64GB in November!), but then I'd have 2 SSDs and from what I hear, they're not worth selling second hand. What should I do? You can use 2 SSD's in one system.

I sold a desktop on craigslist recently with an i5 750, HD 5770, 60 GB SSD, and 600W OCZ Stealthstream PSU for $450 (and most of the parts still had a warranty left); and I felt like that was a pretty good deal for me. This is considering that you can build a new system for around $700 (including mouse, keyboard, and screen) that will be much better.

I know you can use both, but it's one of those things where 64GB is too small but I doubt I'd fill 128GB (Not for quite a while at least). I have the option of either keeping the 64GB and buying the 128GB anyway or selling the 64GB (Average used price on eBay is around £45-£50) and buy the 128GB, meaning I'd recoup some of the £78 and would effectively only be paying around £28-£33.

After paying eBay fees and shipping, how much would you recoup? And what about your time and effort? Is it worth it still?
