Would you care to elaborate on a few points? I'm also trying to learn so next time I know more stuff myself instead of always asking others to do work for me. As for the brands (ASrock and Sapphire), I assume these are stable brands as well? Only reason I took Asus is the weak notification of a friend of mine that those never died on him. Motherboard seems fine. I noticed this one has a graphics chip on it. Was I right in my assumption that strictly this is not necessary when you have a seperate graphics card? Graphics card: I guess the 6870 is only slightly better than 6850, which does not justify the cost difference? Anything special about this case that makes it better than the other? Aside from the few euros difference. That RAM specifically says thats its suited for this mac crap. Is it still useable in a normal setup? Also, what is the difference with the one ~8 euros cheaper? http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/Corsair/8_GB_DDR3-1333/944716/?tk=8&lk=385 EDIT: It seemed like we were looking at notebook RAM. Not sure if that makes a difference. This looks similar for a desktop, so I assume this would be fine: http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/Corsair/8_GB_DDR3-1333/987925/?tk=7&lk=3326 As for the SSD, I dont really understand. Is it just that the one I pointed out looks sketchy? I'm guessing 64GB is enough when using it to boot stuff like OS? (I havent checked how much space windows 7 wants, like, ever). What also seems strange is that the one you pointed out claims to have a writing speed of 95 MB/sec, while the original claims 510 MB/sec. This sounds sketchy. What is more normal for SSD drives? I know some people who bought SSD drives of 120GB at around 100 euro from that place last week or so. I will enquire them which one it was. I will look into this more tomorrow. I really appreciate all the help I've gotten so far!

$500-600 What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Mostly D3 and SC2 for now. I might try to push my luck with Skyrim. I'm not looking to stream or do any of the other fancy video editing stuff, just to run the games with medium-high settings. What is your upgrade cycle? I'd like it to last at least 2 years before an upgrade. When do you plan on building it? Within the next 2 weeks. Do you plan on overclocking? No. Do you need an Operating System? No. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No. Where are you buying your parts from? For now off of amazon unless I can find the same parts for less elsewhere. I have to admit that this is my first time building a pc and I'm not totally sure that the parts I've chosen will work together well. This parts list is based off of the May 2012 budget build posted on newbcomputerbuild.com. One place in which I deviated from the posted build was the power supply, which I made 600W instead of the recommended 500W. The motherboard SUPPORTS Integrated graphics as in it has the dvi/dsub outputs however you won't use them since your using a discrete graphics card. Yeh 50euros more for 10% more performance isn't worth it. SSD's using the Sandforce controlers are know for BSOD's. Yeah the RAM u found is fine. Win7-64bit uses ~21GB of space.

What is your budget? <$1000 What is your resolution? She will need a new monitor, perferably a resolution of 1920x1080P. This is a part of the budget of $1000 dollars. When do you plan on building it? Within a week. Do you plan on overclocking? Nope. Do you need an Operating System? Nope. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope. Where are you buying the parts from? Any sites in the US such as Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, and NCiX.

So here are the coolers. First, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 And then, the Corsair Hydro Series H60 with a Push-Pull double 120mm fan configuration. http://www.corsair.com/hydro-series-h60-cpu-cooler.html I can get the Hyper 212 fan for $5 less than the H60, so I was wondering if it was worth the additional $5 to get the cooler. Thanks!

Can someone reccomend some cheap parts for my new build? I could probably keep my case, gpu, and psu, but would need a new Mobo, processor, and ram (only have 2.5 atm) and am not very tech savy so I don't know how to mix and match cpus with mobo's.

Thanks! I would stay away from a shitty closed loop cooler. If you want water cooling, then you should build your own custom loop (that way you can actually cool your graphics card(s) as well). Crappy water cooling options are not quieter, more efficient or easier to install than similarly priced air cooling options, so stick with the 212 EVO. I thought that workstation oriented graphics cards tended to have more vram, but this has 1GB, which is pretty standard as a baseline these days. Surely a much cheaper card would offer the same performance, or a similarly priced mainstream card like the 6770 would be better performance? I'm not questioning you, as I know you would have a good reason for choosing it, I would just like to know why ![]()

Anandtech only got an extra 200mhz (4.7ghz) using the Intel all-in-one liquid cooler on an i7-3770k because to be stable at that clock you have to run up the volts and that fucks over your temps. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5763/undervolting-and-overclocking-on-ivy-bridge

I saw the build that iTzSnypah posted above (spoilered below), with the i3-2120/MSI N560GTX combo. I don't think I need that good of a GPU - if I wanted to shift some of the budget from the GPU to the processor what would I be looking at? (Or would this combo be fine for the above use?) I guess you could get a p67 and do a 400 MHz overclock (limited multiplier lock) on the i3-2120, but the performance gain would be minimal at best. Just save the extra money if you get a cheaper card ![]() Thanks for the advice Rollin - any suggestions on what that cheaper card would be?

Below that the price/performance ratio starts to go shitty. 460 $140: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127646 6850 $140: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131374 6770 $110 ($90 AMIR): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150540 Relevant benchmarks: 6850 vs 460: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/542?vs=539 Actually I don't have a 6770 benchmark. It's basically almost able to hold 60fps in sc2 on ultra.

She also does a bit of photoshop/CAD work. mATX if possible would be nice. I saw the build that iTzSnypah posted above (spoilered below), with the i3-2120/MSI N560GTX combo. I don't think I need that good of a GPU - if I wanted to shift some of the budget from the GPU to the processor what would I be looking at? (Or would this combo be fine for the above use?) For general reference about the build, What is your budget? 500 (already have hard drives and monitors) What is your resolution? Dual 1920x1080 When do you plan on building it? ASAP What is your upgrade cycle? 2-3 years Do you plan on overclocking? Nope. Do you need an Operating System? Nope. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope. Where are you buying the parts from? Probably Newegg, but any US sites like Amazon/TigerDirect work as well Thanks so much! Your wish is my command. Off to newegg I GO ASEARCHING!
