A quality ~500W unit will be fine, for example a Rosewill Capstone 450W would be sufficient for your system, with any amount of overclocking. Extras like fans and harddrives do not need to be taken into consideration for load power (unless you have like 10 in raid or something stupid). I can't find any proper tests with that powersupply (the aurum), so whether or not it is sufficient is unknown, but I'd think it would probably suffice. The worst that is likely to occur is that you get random power loss when benchmarking and need to get a good psu ![]() The i5-3570k and i7-3770k are interchangeable. The only real difference is hyperthreading and price. Hyperthreading will not affect games, only streaming and encoding etc. There is no reason to change motherboard between them.

They're some of the worst 80+ Gold PSUs on the market though, with a dumb (unnecessarily loud) fan controller and somewhat cost-saving internal design. It's like a decent budget ~$55 PSU (I mean 500W version pricing) where the extra money went towards making it 80+ Gold and more profits, rather than making it better in anything other than efficiency. Capstone (Super Flower Golden Green Pro) is a legitimately high-end design, with a quieter operation too. Aurum 500W could very easily handle that kind of system with pretty much any kind of non-subzero overclocking though, like any other decent budget PSU of that wattage. Prices aside, this doesn't really make much sense to me. RAM cooler? GX550 really sucks and somehow the XFX Core 550W is cheaper. Z68 and H77/Z77 can already use Intel's SRT (SSD caching), so if you really want the storage to be hybrid mechanical / solid state without management by the end user, you could just use Intel's solution instead. I have no idea what a P8Z68-V Pro is doing in a build like that. Seems like a lot of waste paired with an HD 6870 and a mystery CPU, and a bad power supply.

I appreciate the effort (assuming there was a little) in looking for parts, but it's not very helpful. It's difficult to guess what your intentions are, so any suggestions for improvements may be no good. Is this system going to be overclocked? Are you planning on using an SSD as the boot/OS/programs drive or as a caching drive to the mechanical drive? Are you getting the Phantom because of how it looks or what else? For that matter, why not answer the list of questions in the OP?

http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=660227 No need to get a Powercolor model at that kind of price: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=745752 Intel 330 120GB isn't much more expensive: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=749482 Cheaper motherboard, RAM (don't need a RAM cooler): http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=746688 http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=744179 On second thought, if the XFX Core 550W is out of stock for a while, the 450W version is already way overkill for the build, so it's an acceptable replacement. A 7850 only has a single power connector anyway. The Hyper 212 Evo is fine, as is the WD Caviar Blue.

He wants to overclock, one monitor only. I think a Core i5 3570k and an HD 7850 are good choices? His budget is $1200, but he also has to buy a monitor and Windows. Any decent case will work. I explained the merits of an SSD (Windows and the games you install on it will load faster), but he wasn't sure if he wanted that or to put the $130.00 somewhere else. Also, would it be worth it to get a 120Hz monitor or would he need something significantly better than an HD 7850 (which would probably put the whole thing over $1200)? Thanks!

I've been looking around to possibly buy a new computer. With some help from various sources I have created this build below. Since I am mostly clueless about this stuff I would like to receive some feedback on where I can improve it and what not. I intend to create a system with 2 monitors (I'm not sure what resolution yet, but I guess nothing extreme). It should be able to last me a good few years (3-5) for general gaming such as SC2. I don't care about ultra high settings etc, but I want to be able to play games that get published 3-5 years from now with low-medium settings. Also I tend to do some basic simulations on it (mostly matrix-calculus based). I do not plan to overclock the system. I will outline the build and in spoiler add my reasoning. I will include prices I found for a local store. Let me know if these are outrageous for europe. I want to build something for around 1000 euro max, including monitors, keyboard and mouse. CPU Intel® Core™ i5-2380P (Boxed) € 177,90 + Show Spoiler + It seems like hyperthreading is not really worth it for now except for straight up computation with special stuff that supports it. So for that reason I took i5 over i7. I just took what seemed to be one of the faster quad cores without integrated graphics chip. Motherboard ASUS P8H61 -=Rev.3.0=- € 76,90 + Show Spoiler + Asus seems like a reliable brand and this socket seems to fit the processor. Also it doesnt have an integrated graphics chip RAM Corsair 16 GB DDR3-1333 Kit € 96,90 + Show Spoiler + 16 vs 8 GB is still a bit of a debate. One option is to buy just a 1x8GB stick and keep the possibility for the 2nd. Since my computing is mostly FEM/Matlab, it usually is somewhat of an advantage to store large matrices in memory. Graphics card ASUS EAH6870 DC/2DI2S/1GD5 (HD6870) € 179,90 + Show Spoiler + I have better experience with ATI cards opposed to nvidia. Again, Asus seems reliable. This seems to be better than for example the HD7770 by comparing random numbers of which I have no clue what they mean. Higher cards run expensive fast. HDD Seagate ST1000DM003 € 86,90 + Show Spoiler + Seemed like one of the cheaper 1TB 7200 rpm drives SSD ADATA AS510S3-120GM-C € 93,90 + Show Spoiler + I intend to use this for the OS to have faster boot as well as possibly some basic programs. It seems like an affordable drive for this size Optical drive LG GH24NS70 € 14,99 + Show Spoiler + Cheap basic dvd write/read drive. Blueray seems like overkill for now Casing Aerocool Vs-4 € 37,99 + Show Spoiler + I'm mostly clueless here, but the site I was building it on said my drives would fit in here and it was not extremely expensive. Power supply Cooler Master ExtremePower 500W € 54,90 + Show Spoiler + No clue here. More power doesnt seem needed at least Total build price: € 820,28 (possibly around 45 less if I go for 8GB ram) This leaves around 180 for 2 monitors, keyboard, mouse (and sound system?). I'm convinced monitors should be cheaper than what I found so far (around 100 euro). All advice is welcome. Please be gentle and keep in mind this is my first time attempting something like this. I could in principle spend a bit more if it adds alot more value to my system. But also if I can get a cheaper but similar alternative that's more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

This is very overpriced. Use this site. Great service and cheaper http://www1.hardwareversand.de/home.jsp?lb Get 8gb of cheaper ram, the one you have now is overpriced and unnessasary. If you have money to burn on a ssd you may as well get a k processor and overclock it. Something like a 2500k or 3570k with the appropriate board. Also that ssd seems awefully cheap for 120gb. Maybe wont be the best but get someone elses input my knowledge of them is limited Everything else seems fine if a bit overpriced

Since we have no idea where your building the computer at (country/site wise) I can only give generalizations. The motherboard is CRAZY overpriced. I know on komplett.se you can buy an H61 board for less than 60€. I would find a H61 board with 4 RAM slots and just buy a 2x4GB Kit and then adding another 2x4GB kit later down the road if you find the need for it. Other than that I can't really give suggestions as I don't know where your buying from (eg. in Singapore the prices are inflated about 25% and in Norway its ~30%).

I'm building it in the Netherlands and the site was just from a shop I know. The website is only available in Dutch. So for that I wouldn't have to include shipping costs as I would just be able to drive there and pick the stuff up. I looked quickly at hardwareversand and noticed all their details about shipping costs are only available in German, so that will take me a bit more time to figure out. Also I havent been able to find this graphics card on that website, so then I would have to pick a new one or gather from different sources. I haven't actually noticed 2x4 being cheaper than 1x8 (I'm assuming that would be the reason)? I would usually assume it should be a bit cheaper though. Do you have more specific suggestions for motherboard? I'm very clueless on that except for that I can figure out that the socket number should match the socket number of my processor. As for overclocking, I've heard different experiences from friends. Some always do it, some almost never. Not overclocking just sounds a lot safer (also because I'd have no clue where to start). Also my intuition would state that an overclocked processor would have a shorter lifetime. Is it possible to give more concrete models?

I'm not really aware of how much shipping usually costs. Also I'm pretty sure that there could be alternatives for the stuff I put in there. As mentioned, I have zero experience with this.
