is there any problems with Zotac versus a EVGA(i know evga is a huge brand with some good backbone behind it) but this is a pretty good deal. (i could even get two of them and almost battle a 580) once again the only issue with the 465 is heat and energy usage.

~1000$ What is your resolution? I’m not quite sure what I’ll be using, I don’t have a monitor right now a friend of mine is giving me his old one and I don’t know what size it is. I don’t really have a preference though. What are you using it for? Mostly gaming, I mostly will be playing WoW, SC2, Dota 2, LoL these types of games, along with maybe some FPS's. Probably would watch streams, and maybe a bit of editing on it not much else. Most of my work is done on my laptop. What is your upgrade cycle? fairly long haha When do you plan on building it? I’d love to know what would be some good parts by Friday for the sales, but thats really short notice haha. Do you plan on overclocking? Never have, and probably won't in the future Do you need an Operating System? This shouldn't be a problem. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Doubt it Where are you buying your parts from? Well I'm in Canada, other than that I was just gonna lurk newegg, but anything that ships to eastern Canada would be fine.

I currently own a sager gaming laptop (quad 2.0ghz cpu, 4gp ram and GTX 260m), a mouse and keyboard and a 27" screen It runs starcraft at lowest alright on 1920x1080, however trying to run other things on higher settings is difficult at that resolution I was checking out the Newegg deals for Black Friday and I'm looking for the possibility of getting a decent budget gaming desktop. Here's my answers to the questions: + Show Spoiler + What is your budget? Less than $1000 (As close to the 800-900 range as possible) and the most cost effective as possible What is your resolution? 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Mostly Gaming What is your upgrade cycle? I'll be using this until I graduate (around 2 years from now) after that, I might sell it, not really sure. When do you plan on building it? ASAP if I decide to actually build it Do you plan on overclocking? Maybe, not too sure about it though Do you need an Operating System? Nope, got one already Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Most probably not Where are you buying your parts from? NCIX and Memoryexpress are two good places to buy parts in Canda since they do price matching. A general parts list would be something like this: Core i5-750 or i5-760 -- they're identical, just one is 2.66 GHz and the other is 2.8 GHz GTX 460 -- 768 MB version is cheaper and fine since your screen resolution won't be large on an old monitor 2x2 GB DDR3 RAM -- 1333-rated MHz is fine since no overclocking LGA 1156 motherboard -- a board with USB3 support may be nice; I don't think you'd use any features of P55, so even a H55 or H57 chipset board is okay if it's cheaper HDD -- whatever capacity you need, any 7200 rpm drive should be fine optical drive -- likewise, whatever PSU -- a good 400W or more would give some comfortable headroom And then I'd suggest adding a SSD to use as a primary drive, to store the OS and frequently-used applications. Buy whatever capacity fits your budget and needs. All the drives using the Sandforce SF-1200 are good-performing and pretty decent values. And you need a case of course. @stalife: + Show Spoiler + With $2000 you can get a lot of nice stuff, but not without going past the point of bang-per-buck values. The below is going to be somewhat under $2000 definitely, but going above that amount, you wouldn't gain much at all anyway. Core i7-950 GTX 580 -- might as well keep it to one GPU and save the hassle and heat/power of SLI/Crossfire 3x2 GB DDR3 RAM -- want triple-channel RAM, and 6 GB is plenty LGA 1366 (X58 chipset) mobo -- USB3 support, etc. is nice if available SSD -- get something with enough capacity to store your OS and applications; SandForce SF-1200 controller drives are popular and good, as are Crucial's RealSSD at larger capacities HDD -- whatever optical drive -- whatever PSU -- with the budget, you might as well get something pretty nice here that performs really well and will last; a good 600W unit would provide headroom to spare to be able to overclock the crap out of everything You might as well throw in a decent air cooler for the CPU too. There are some good cases in the $100 range that would be fine for dealing with the heat of an i7 and GTX 580 and sturdy enough to really last. @Darklance: + Show Spoiler + It seems like on that laptop, the CPU is holding back the GPU in terms of SC2 performance. Anyway... 3 RAM DIMMs on a system with triple-channel memory seems kind of weird. Is 4 GB not enough? Or maybe you could go to a 2x4 GB kit if you really want. The Corsair 650TX is good but there are other good options. You definitely don't need anything above 500W, even with some monster overclocks. Seasonic S12II 520W is a little better than the 650TX I think (other than having more wattage capacity than you wold ever use), and it's $20 cheaper.

Ive decided on the PSU before but still waiting for any real deals first. Want to save some cash since I was stupid enough to purchase some of the stuff 2 weeks ago instead of now, when they had $30+ discounts on all the parts I bought before. FML! ![]() Im also still deciding on the Mobo, something that is good for OCing and I dont think I will ever SLI or X-fire. My RAM is DDR3 1600, guess I'll adjust the timing and volts if it doesnt work on the board. The Mobo Ive decided on before: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128425 Alternative: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131634 Hmm... edit: Meant OC my i5, my 4770 is already overclocked with an after market cooler.

Budget is $900 What is your resolution? I'm not sure how to answer this because i don't know what it is from the first place :[ What are you using it for? Simply gaming, youtube, movie watching, and casual use. What is your upgrade cycle? 4-5 years When do you plan on building it? Within 2 weeks Do you plan on overclocking? I don't know how to overclock and am too afraid to attempt or try. Do you need an Operating System? Yes :[ Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Not sure exactly what that means but probably no? Where are you buying your parts from? Purely newegg I just want a strong solid gaming system that isn't top of the line but well above average in graphics and performance. A couple of things: A Phenom II X6 is no better than an X4 in most games because most games don't use that many processor cores. This Phenom II X4 925 and AM3 mobo combo would save a lot of money. (And the old mobo you listed actually didn't support DDR3 RAM, only DDR2, but it's a moot point.) This GTS 450 (overclocked version) is a little cheaper than the HD 5770 and should be very marginally worse. That price for a 550VX is nice, but you don't need that much power, so a Antec Basiq 430W should be fine. Do note that it only has 3 SATA power connectors, and it's Antec's lowest-cost line (though the manufacturer seems to be Delta, which is pretty decent). You can find cheaper cases, or you could get a better case like the CM 690 (not 690ii) for the same price. There are a few rebates there as well.

General question towards Newegg, are the deals listed on their site their real Black Friday deals? So the deals begin sooner than usual or will there be even more discounts come Friday or Cyber Monday? I'm piecing together parts for a family computer at home and don't want to press the checkout button yet ![]()
