I had my friend dissasemble my entire computer without me looking so I could start from scratch reassembling it. It took me two tries only. One piece of advice though is don't force something into where it can't fit or shouldn't be.

Every graphics card you want for gaming these days use PCI-E and every consumer motherboard you can find on newegg will have PCI-E. DDR3 is used on basically every motherboard. Every good power supply (and even the shitty ones) will have all the appropriate connectors. All modern drives use SATA, all motherboards have SATA.

My summer vacation starts in 4 days and to celebrate that I want to build a computer - first time ever. I would like some advice on what parts to pick. Budget: Around $1000-1100 (including buying a monitor/keyboard/speakers). Use: Gaming (mostly sc2 with a few other ones thrown in) on top of just day to day web browsing. I code quite a bit but thats irrelevant to this I'm assuming. As far gaming - I'm not too hung up on playing everything on ultra (other than sc2 - I want to see that on ultra ). Upgrade Cycle: I want to upgrade perhaps every couple years. Most likely when I graduate college in 2014. Building it: As soon as I finish my semester (this Thursday) and when the parts come in/I buy the stuff OS: Unnecessary - I get Windows 7 free of cost from my university Where am I buying from: I have access to Fry's and obviously Newegg/Amazon. Misc: Keyboard/Monitor recommendations would be appreciated. I'm thinking of this one If you need anymore information, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

The mechanical keyboard you had linked was Rosewill cherry browns I think? It's a good choice, but you can get better brands for around that price range such as Das Keyboard, Filco, or CM Storm. Those are my reccomendations. There's a whole thread on mechanical keyboards btw. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=260143

Anyone know if its worth the extra $25? I can't believe I missed that thread - thanks for pointing it out. I also found a monitor one. Thats convenient. I'll peruse those threads for keyboard/monitor advice. Help with the computer would be greatly appreciated, though.

This totals to Red switches are on sale for $80: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201044 iirc Rosewill ones are just rebranded Filcos. Das probably isn't worth it since iirc it's like $130 while Leopolds, Rosewills, Corsairs, Coolermasters, etc are all under that. If you want to lower price or allocate differently, you can get a 2500k with a P67 instead (about $50 less). Removing the SSD is another way of lowering the price, you always have the option of adding it later. If you want a better graphics card than you can get a 7850 (~+$100) but the GTX 460 can max Starcraft II at 1080p and play most games on reasonably high settings. If you want an ATX board for whatever reason, you can get the G43 variant from Tigerdirect for $120 (it's $115 at Newegg but OOS). This leaves you with roughly $400 for peripherals (so mechanical keyboard for ~$100, Ultrasharp for ~$200 / or any other 1080p monitor, and remaining for speakers). AMD Cpu's suck. Looking at them for gaming builds is beyond stupid.
