With how much you're dumping into drives, I think I'd put my head through my desk if you built in that shitty of a case...
And I have a glass desk, so that would hurt.
If you're willing to pay a fortune for small performance gains, there's really no excuse for a bad case unless it has some bizarre gimmick you want to dick around with. (No, this isn't me knocking it, I'm just commenting that it would be bizarre.)

I found this searching through the Combo deals... Rosewill Capstone 450W & Rosewill Challenger Black ATX mid tower $94.98 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.915229
I was pleasantly surprised at how much money I was able to shave off by searching through the combo's. Saved $20 on the cpu+mobo and its still the one I picked out in the first place.
Probably saved close to $80...

Thank you and everyone else who contributed! You guys are awesome.

Hello, fellow TL members!
I am deeply interested in building a new computer for myself. My price range is around 800-900 dollars and I want the best computer that this price range can get. Here is where you guys come in. My knowledge on computers is very inadequate. I really hope some of our members who are computer savvy can help me in my quest towards a better computer!
What is your budget?
$800-$900
What is your resolution?
1440 x 900
What are you using it for?
Mostly Gaming
What is your upgrade cycle?
2+ years
When do you plan on building it?
In 1 to 2 months
Do you plan on overclocking?
No
Do you need an Operating System?
I might use different means other than buying it to acquire OS.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
NO
Where are you buying your parts from?
newegg
PS: I am content with my current monitor and will be using it with the new computer so please don't include monitor price with your suggestions!!

Deals and prices change so ask again when you plan to buy in two months.
Overclocking is running at a higher clock speed than what the component is rated for = more performance.
You'll be buying from Newegg, NCIX US, Amazon, and Tigerdirect. You'll want to check if you have a Microcenter near you as well since they have the lowest CPU prices (pick-up only) in the US.
$900 is a pretty big budget and won't be necessary for such a low resolution and no need for an operating system.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I was hoping I could see some builds that fit my criteria.

Scroll up and you have one. Look through the last fifty pages and you have dozens more.
|
Look above at the most recent build, add an SSD, and upgrade the video card a bit. That's about $800 and should be about what to expect. edit: late

Can someone tell me if an i7 3770 Ivy Bridge will offer any *noticeable* fps gains over an i5 3570 for streaming (while playing) SC2?
|
Stream fps or game fps? It's definitely "no" for game fps, possibly "yes" for stream fps if you're tweaking things to try to max out the best possible stream quality given your setup.
In general, an i5-3570k, Z77/Z75 motherboard, CPU cooler, and overclock, would be better than an i7-3770k [edit: whoops meant the i7-3770 non-k] at a comparable system cost.
|
Yeah I think that answers my question. Basically for SC2 streaming, better to go for the i5 and put the additional cash onto a better GPU.
Thanks Myrmidon

Thats not what he ment. He ment that an OC'd i5-3570k will stream better than a stock clocked i7-3770 AND it will cost the same or less.

I want to upgrade JUST my CPU, Moother Board, Hard Drive and RAM Here are my specs so far: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Motherboard: ASUS P5Q SE PLUS LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E6300 @ 2.80GHz, 2800 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti (1400x900 , 32bit 60hz) native resolution
Hard Drive: 127GB
Power Supply: 600w ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is your budget? $700-1000
What is your resolution? 1400x900 , 32bit 60hz
What are you using it for? I will be using this computer for mostly gaming specifically the game "TERA". I would like to be able to play the game while using a video recording program and have several other applications open at the same time. (I am already playing TERA on medium graphics without a problem, except for freezes when i am in the main town with alot of people due to my CPU)
What is your upgrade cycle? 2+ years i would like to have it for a while since the comp im using now i have had for 3 years or so.
When do you plan on building it? in 1-2 weeks
Do you plan on overclocking? does not matter to me
Do you need an Operating System? No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No
Where are you buying your parts from? I can buy them online or from a retailer by me like Tiger Direct, Canada Computers, NCIX ect.

700-1000 is probably good for a brand new set-up w/ a new monitor. so you might want to upgrade that ancient monitor too.
