You only play SC2 right? (I guess maybe LoL or some other games on the side, but it seems like that should be the majority of your gaming needs?)
I would imagine something like a Radeon 7850 would be more than enough for just that. On the other hand, I think you will want an i7-2600K for streaming as lagless as possible. (Would it make sense to build a 2011 computer? I guess it might... then again the entire thing doesn't necessarily need to be high end since its just SC2. But I guess extra cores could help for streaming?)
Case would be a Fractal Design Define R3 or the Corsair 550D I believe (100-150$) if you want it to be quiet. Keep in mind that a quiet build makes temperatures worse when you overclock (if its high). For a cooler, you would get the Hyper 212+ or a Noctua NH-D14... the second one being better. I just know those two are good choices, while there could be others.
You'd want an SSD, and since you don't really need a great graphics card, you could probably get an Intel 520 or Samsung 830 (I think the Intel is slightly more expensive, but also Intel is reliable). You could get a bigger 7200 RPM hard drive as well if you need it.
I don't think you'll need more than 550W either. I don't know the best power supply available in Canada, but generally Antec, Corsair, XFX should be fine.
I didn't make a build because I can't optimize stuff and I only know general knowledge. Skyr and others are much better at that than me... obv. This is just an idea of what you should need.
To the post above me (on the last page): I think a 7970 is way overkill. Plus, an Antec 300 is out of date. I think an SSD would be better in that case. Everything else is generally what you'd want, although maybe not optimized (not criticizing, I just have no idea if it is).

Yeah I had no clue for Cases...So I picked a generic one that skyr recommended a lot a while ago.
IDK TT1 specified a 1500 Budget and a 1500 Budget is on the cusp of enthusiast. So a 7970 makes sense.

Well yeah, but its unnecessary Why would you buy a 7970 when 1080P ultra details look exactly the same on a 7850? I don't think he -needs- to spend that. At least, it would probably be better to invest in either a better CPU, SSD, a better cooler, or peripherals like the monitor if his sponsors don't demand he use a certain one. After all, SC2 isn't GPU intensive at all. If he was playing battlefield 3 for 8 hours a day, it would make sense, but I don't think so for SC2.
Or he could use the money for a fancy dinner
Edit: TT1, take Skyr's build and go own some Koreans with it!

Ivy Bridge a week early!
Cool little tidbit if it's true Although I suppose with the overclocking news its more important news for laptop users than desktop. (Although I guess lower builds will surely get plenty of use from IVB)

Toms is slow on the news.

Haha, that's just where I saw it, just posting it here since I still saw some people referencing the 29th as of a few days ago. I was just browsing random tech sites from boredom

I think I may be having power supply issues.
I bought this PSU last June. Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371035
On Wednesday I woke up and my computer was off. My wife said my 18mo old had touched the case, but didn't think she did anything to it. I went to power it on and no power came on at all. I switched out the power cord out the back of the case and it fired right up.
Today, I was on my computer for about 5 hours, let it go to sleep mode, and then when I came back to it, it was powered off. Not having another power cord to test, I just wiggled the power cord in the back a little, reslotted it and it fired up again.
Two weeks ago, I dusted out my computer with a can of air. Could dust have gotten into the PSU and made it go bad? Is this a faulty PSU or is it just the luck of two faulty power cords? They are both quite old power cords.
EDIT for specs:
i5 2500 z68 asrock MB extreme3 gen3 16gb Ram 560ti MSI GPU 64gb SSD boot drive 1tb Hard drive 500 watt antec PSU

Hey all, i've been browsing through this thread a little bit. And i was wondering if anyone ever tried livestreaming with a laptop. I just ordered a new laptop today: Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM 6Mb Cache, 2.20 GHZ (3.1GHZ Turbo mode / Quad Core - 8 threads) Nvidia Geforce GT555m (2gb ddr3) 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3 Memory 500gb hdd. etc. etc.
Would this be enough to stream?(480p or 720p) cause i think it sure would suffice if it were a desktop, but i have no idea how this would work on a laptop. Cause usually a laptop will perform less then a desktop with the same specs.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! Prob 480P, maybe 720? An i5-2400 is clocked way higher but thus has HT so if your thermals are good it might be ok.but I don't think streaming on a laptop really works very well.
To sleeptech, we need your specs. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the power supply, at least it shouldn't blow up on you from bad build quality. Although defective or faulty hardware does exist...

Make sure everything is seated and plugged in inside the case.
My toddler isn't being himself if he's not causing me to troubleshoot stuff. He's really fond of unseating my GPUs. Also, baby powder dumped in your case is bad.

i just got my new laptop from xmg and it has an ivy bridge cpu(i7 3920xm), was hoping that id be able to stream on it even if it was a laptop but sadly i had no such luck =/

It's the same drive, just different packages. The cheaper one is probably just the drive itself, while the other one is the full retail box with the SSD and maybe some extras like a SATA cable, screws, etc.? Some retail boxes pack a 2.5" -> 3.5" adapter or software; I forget what Samsung does.

I find this quite interesting. It's a Quad-core Ivy with HyperThreading and runs at 2.9GHz when more than 4 threads are used (which will be the case when playing + streaming SC2) - should be maybe equivalent to a i7 2600K @ about 3.1GHz... it should have no problem whatsoever with a nice 720p+ (maybe even 1080) as long as your upload speed is decent (hopefully at least 3Mbps, preferably 5+)
So if I may ask, how come it's not working out?

dunno i get like 60-70 fps once the game starts while im streaming, i have 7mbps upload

I have some wonderings about the new Z77 motherboards. I wanted to buy an mATX with at least 4 6gb sata ports, but it seems like the default is 2 6gb and 4 3gb. Probably shitty intel chipset is to blame again? A few motherboards from asrock and asus deviate from this by adding 2 asmedia 6gb ports. I can't find any reliable info on how good they are in comparison to the normal 6gb intel sata ports. Help!
