is this the old version? any reason not to buy this one? :0

For that price probably not, but the mic is a clip on which i don't like i ended up just using the mic on my webcam when i used that.

I'm actually lanning right now and my friend has the clip on mic attached to the cord of the headset and it sounds great on vent.

There is absolutely no reason I would suggest you to not get them. Unless you haven't eaten recently.
I enjoy watching more than playing.

Did you mod the mic into your headset? I'm looking to pick up an AD700, but I can't find a good mic to mod it with.

get a zalman clip on mic i like mentioned on page 2. you get more value out of your money if you spend money on nice headphones and a 10 dollar mic.

I just play with some random earbuds. I don't like headphones because they're too big and clunky and honestly, i don't think they help much at all.

I'm completely eyeballing those Logitech G35's my new laptop SCREAMS for 7.1 surround!

Can't wait to get them, 159.99 of pure solid gold... Plus, the reviews seem to look really good for it too, durability, comfort, sound, all seems top-notch.

I have Audio technica A700s and AD700s (similar model, one is a closed phone, one is an open, A700s are closed).

They are good and reasonably priced. I wasn't the hugest fan of the AD700s and if I wasn't too lazy to sell them I wouldn't still have them, but that's not a slight on them, A700s are just better headphones for me and I only need one. Best part about these is that they are great for dudes with big heads, and I have a big head and big ears to boot. I got this + USB Mic. I also have a logitech headset which is fine, but the earpads aren't that comfortable so I just picked up a USB Mic since occasionally I am on long calls. I have an ugly shitty crappy looking Logitech USB Mic, but it's still amazing in the stuff it picks up. This can be either a good or a bad thing, no one else in the room can really talk while I'm on the phone.

The only people who use sennheisers are pro xbox video gamers because they have a shorter list of sponsors and use them because 1) they get them free 2) they have the MLG logo (oooooh). For games that sound really matters such as quake, those players aren't binded by sponsorships to use the product, if there is a product that they know is better and will make that difference between winning and losing, they will use the other product.

The reason Senheisers PC350s and Astros A40s are used so munch at MLG tournaments is because Halo 3 is a game of communication, where you gotta communicate constantly with your team to have a shot at winning. In game sound is also very important as in every FPS.

My bad for mixing up the astros and sennheisers, but quite frankly, I'd say CS is a communicative game and much more competitive than halo, as are those professional dota/hon players that roam around, and none of them use the sennhesier, they ALL use the siberia v2

Pro players who are sponsored by a company can get the gear for cheap or free, that doesn't mean that they HAVE to wear it or use it. Lots of CS players sponsored by steelseries still used IME 3.0's insteadl of the xai or ikari or kinzu. Products do matter to the players and they will use what suits them best, not just which company pays the most.

For 26k posts I'm amazed at how much sustenance and pure meaty in depth analysis you have given us.

I don't currently own a Siberia v2, I have tried and tested them out and borrowed a pair before. I know that every progamer uses them from quake, cs, starcraft, and the list goes on.

I currently use the creative fatal1ty headset because it was on sale when my previous headphones broke, for only 25 bucks, and for that price it really couldn't be beat at the time. The detachable microphone is nice because having attached microphones that you constantly move up and down on the headset causes the change in the wires which will lead to breakage, I know that that is why most microphones on headsets break. The microphone quality is nice, the sound quality is nothign special, but if i can turn it loud and quiet when i need it then it suits my needs.

Nevertheless, if money were not an option I would still pick the steelseries siberia v2 as my headset of choice.

You said sennheiser is overpriced, but you are defending Siberias and you have a fatal1ty headset LMAOOOOOOO.

You sure are one to talk about headphone quality.

If you want a good pair of headphones, don't listen to the guy I just quoted.

Don't need to listen to me, listen to the 65% of this thread pointing at one product. And if you're saying this is a "endorse which headset you use" thread then it should balance out. I'm not here to disrespect you unlike yourself, but where have you given any help on this topic? From what I'm going to gather, you think the sennheisers are cheap when they're 250+ dollars. Siberia v2's suck because well, you know, everyone uses them and nobody complains about them, and the fatal1ty headset isn't worth its value, when nobody in this thread has talked down about them yet either.

Seems like you just have a bone to pick. Too bad a higher post count doesn't make you right. The world has a way of balancing out, survival of the fittest style. Siberia v2's are popular because they are good value and comfortable. If they were bad products, they wouldn't be endorsed by all pro gamers who also have had the option of trying sennheisers or other products, and every major reviewing company wouldn't say that they get the highest ratings of headsets. Fact of the matter is, whether or not you agree with me, 98% of people who have tried the products do, and even a large portion of people who haven't tried it will agree, sadly.

Siberia v2 is relatively comfortable and also decent for its price. It's just that headphones from Sennheiser like the HD555 are even more comfortable and have a LOT better sound for almost the same price.
But yeah I guess it depends on whether you are a gaming freak or audiophile...

Don't buy a medusa pro gamer headset, they are shit and break just above the earpiece. I switched over to the roccat kave and so far its been the most outstanding headset i've ever used. Gotta love real 5.1 surround sound (none of this emulated crap )

"Imagine a headphone, not with simulated, but with three very real 40mm speakers arranged at a 12° angle embedded into the earcups, plus 2 additional vibration units."

Lol you do realize that surround sound itself is emulation there is no true surround sound except in real life.

All a headset with surround sound does is emulation sounds form multiple speakers down to just 2 high quality speakers.

This can be done on a headset because the distance to your ears is known and is a constant.

The fact that the headset you posted has 6 real speakers doesn't improve the quality it just means that the calculations in sound and delay are done more in a traditional sense instead of though Dolby's pro logic

Also if you look how it's set up all they did was put 3 speakers arranged like a cone to your ear that might as well be one high quality speaker.

I'm not saying the headset is bad it's probably a good headset i'm just saying 3 speakers next to each ear doesn't make it better then 2 speakers as again all they are doing is converting a 5.1 channel down to a pro logic 2 channel system where 2 speakers do the work of 5.
In this case they are converting a 5.1 system into their own property formula then out putting it to the 3 speakers.

Personally i can't wait for usb 3.0 headset the only draw back to G35 is usb 2.0 has the limitation of it can only send or receive it's a half duplex system 3.0 is a full duplex system meaning as it sends it can also receive which would eliminate tiny the delay in mic

Too bad if you're an audiophile double blind studies show that you lie to yourself to enjoy your music on more expensive set ups. But hey if you truly believe it's better then you do get what you payed for. :D

Stop making stuff up, you are looking worse by the second. Where are sennheisers 250$+? Where are you looking for prices?

protip: Siberias and the like are used by every Pro because:

1- They get them for free, the same way some musicians use X brand all the time. Because they get deals, sponsorship, etc.
2- Because people who know jackshit about audio like you recommend an overpriced product and people actually believe that you know anything you are talking about.

Lots of people listen to Britney Spears' music, therefor it must be good. Nice try!

HD280Pro are around 100us$ and are an EXCELLENT pair of studio headphones. Sony MDR V6 are around 60-70 and are superior than any gaming headphone I tried to this day. Grados are 60-70 and are amazing bassy headphones in case you want to feel the explosions in games, or hear footsteps in FPS or whatever.

Samson, Koss, AKG, Audio Technica, all of them make great headphones and most of them have headphones cheaper than lots of the gaming headphones brands with 'fancy' designs emulated 7.1 that are good for nothing.

Most of the brands I named make headphones for studios where they are used 24/7 and use in 99% of the cases better materials than gaming headphones (Sony MDR V6 is a very good example of an all around headphone with amazing build quality for a cheap price).

So please point me exactly where I was wrong? Most of this thread is full of terrible advice save for a couple of posts in the first page, then it's all brand bandwagoning, without backing up opinions.

Just trying to keep some people for wasting money on branding and marketing and actually getting a good product.

Seriously, listen to this man, any "gaming" headset is going to sound like shit if you know what real good headphones sound like. If you want good sound quality get a pair of studio headphones like the ones he recommended they will be cheaper AND the sound quality will be a million times higher.. and if you need a mic just buy a standalone desktop mic or use your old headset as a microphone.

I use Fatal1ty head phones + mic as well. I've been pleasantly surprised thus far by their quality, durability and value. I routinely drop them on the floor by accident and so far no harm, no foul.

Take this message with a grain of salt. I'm not a music aficionado nor am I a pro-gamer.

I was wondering how the hell this thread made it to 6 pages...

It's funny because I've got a pair of HD280s lying on the ground right now (not making a statement, they just happen to be there since I unpacked), I used to own Audio Technica ATH M40s and I just got a set of Siberia v1 from woot for $15.

In my subjective opinion, in terms of audio quality for media: ATH M40fs > HD280 > Siberia.

In terms of comfort, Siberia (great pads + open air) > ATH M40fs > HD280

For gaming, I'd probably give an edge to the Siberia, then HD280, then ATH M40fs

That said, my Audio Technica pair fell apart in less than 2 years, these Siberias are disturbingly flimsy and I'd be surprised if they lasted more than a year just from being occasionally dropped on the ground, and the HD280s are absolute tanks which take unbelievable amounts of abuse.

If I were buying, I'd take all these things into consideration. I wouldn't buy a headset with a mic because it's impractical, limits your selection of headphones and is unnecessary as long as people can understand you (which a $5 mic can accomplish.)

Amazon has the HD280s at $90~, ATH M40fs at $55~, and Sibera v1s at $30. At that price point, I'd probably pick the Audio Technicas. Then again, if you hold out and get a woot deal like I did (they've run the Siberias twice, I believe,) then go for that.

Also note if you're lanning or have a roommate, open ear headphones could be a problem because sound will get in/out.
