The fact is, if they hire a new person to voice Raynor, it's going to force a psychological reset and that, coupled with his new appearance will make him completely different from the old raynor. Actually, essentially, he would be a completely new character, the only thing in common being the name. Let's hope they bring back the voice actor. Well, they need to strike a balance between the old players (smaller base) and new (larger potential base)

Raynor was a lot more interesting before, he looked like a scrub, but a scrub that was trying to save the world. Now he looks like an handsome older gentleman that drinks a bit too much a la Mel Gibson. They totally made him cliche. (I think I'll stop posting in this thread since I've repeated myself a couple of times already.)

In other words, if you were harassed constantly by someone with endless resources and picking up the scum of the universe to finance a resistance save people who probably don't give a crap out about you, most people would have done it KC-style by now.

SC on the other hand is grittier. The original Raynor looked like a normal guy. As did most of the other characters in the universe. Now, Blizzard is eroding that gritty, realistic feeling by making Raynor a suave looking, but internally tortured, hero. Pretty cliché. Just make Raynor look ordinary again, and have his actions be dramatic; as they are in SC. It's far more sophisticated that way, and that's why Blizzard is choosing the other route. For the kiddies. If you want an example of how this works, think of Alien. Would the series be as interesting if a more blandly beautiful actress played Ripley? No, because your first reaction would've been, "Oh I get it. Another beautiful woman is getting chased a monster/killer/stalker." And you would've stopped actively watching the movie. Now obviously, there are other things that make Alien a good movie, but the look of the all the actors and the sets and everything affect how your expectations and how you feel when you're watching it. Do a thought experiment for yourself. Take any movie you like and in your mind imagine how the certain scenes would go if you replaced the original actors with different ones. I guess this isn't super important since the single player story is more like a minor feature to the multiplayer part, but I think it's a boring, safer artistic direction to take.

It's a slightly more sophisticated way of molding a hero. The first thing most people think of are handsome, muscular heroes; look at comic books for christ sake. Having a physically ordinary hero in the middle of great drama is a little less expected. Try thinking sometime, you might enjoy it ![]()
