AoE multiplayer is not good at all for the casual experience. The games last way too long. The typical rts fan is relatively old. I don't have time to play 30-40 minute games. Additionally there are like 50 civs you have to learn. I've been following Hera's streamer invitational somewhat. One the primary problems they encounter is that they'll match a civ with a unique unit and have no idea what it does.
