Games Done Quick is a series of video game marathons for charity. These events feature high-level play by speedrunners raising money for noble causes. Games Done Quick has teamed up with several charities throughout its history, such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Millions of dollars have been raised in support, thanks to the GDQ speedrunning marathons, and countless prizes have been awarded to those who donate!

I checked the schedule and there are a lot of great titles in the lineup. But I usually don't enjoy speedruns of those since it removes all the good parts of the titles in question. Are there any games in the lineup where you feel the speed of the gameplay? Stuff like rocket jumping, strafe jumping to move fast etc. So they basically move at a speed that feels fast and hard to accomplish.

I know there are tons of things that are harder to do due to being frame perfect but it just isn't interesting to watch without a lot of background.

The games that I can most appreciate are the ones I've already played a lot, so that I'm truly aware of just how high the skill ceiling is / just how insane the disparity is between pro players and casuals. For example, I really enjoy watching the 70-star and 120-star runs of Super Mario 64; they're super precise, technical, high-APM, and require a ton of consistency and stamina because they're not just a 5-minute speedrun. I prefer watching those runs over the ones with impressive glitches that skip the entire game and go straight to the credits (like Ocarina of Time).

Most 2D and 3D platformers have the kind of speedruns that I prefer, particularly Nintendo/Mario games. For things like rocket jumps and strafe jumps, you may also want to look at first-person shooters you've played before.

Haven't had a chance to check out any runs this year, anything that stood out?

Sad to see that they're still partnered with Prevent Cancer Foundation. much better organizations out there that will actually do something with the money

PoE 2 runs was really nice. Best one for me so far
