Nice to see Stats back too, he should be able to beat Nightmare and Bunny! Nice to see DRG and soo back just cus it'd suck if they were gone that long. Really cool to see 2 foreigners in, and Astrea making it again is impressive. Too bad Ty didn't make it... Ro16 is so competitive now. Wow we have 6 protoss in Ro16, awesome!! Are they still gonna try to push the new patch before this? I guess they would have 2 weeks to practice. It'd be insane actually to see such a big patch change (especially with the new Cyclone/mech!!). It'd be insane in a very entertaining and healthy way for the viewership. Exciting times!! Though it's really sad Ty isn't there, he would have done some Mech for sure! At least we have Gumiho, and maybe Maru will try it too if it's good!

I'd be pretty shocked if Stats didn't come in last in that group, but if he gets back in shape I'd be thrilled.

Hope he doesn't give up and makes it in next year! Also i just realized didn't see Dream this year, did he retire? He doesn't seem to have played in the qualifiers this year Would love for GSL to go back up to Ro24, but i get that they can't sustain it. Just would feel more exciting having more variety of players and feeling they have a chance to go deep, instead of mostly seeing the same Ro16 players. So many players that could be included like Ty, sOs, Ragnarok, Ryung, Armani, Keen Hmm seems like Innovation didn't play though rip

So this season, if it was Ro24, you would have two BYEs because not even enough players bothered to try it. ...okay, not true, some registered and didn't bother showing up, so I guess these guys would have gotten a free ticket. But you get my point. There are literally not enough players in SK to actually fill a GSL Ro24 and still have it mean something.

Not sure what you counted but looking at the liquipedia page I already see 25 notable participants and looking at the bracket there are quite some more unknown participants, not to mention the top 4 from last season is already seeded

Combine that with the 4 players that were already qualified and you come to 30 players. So in the so-called hardest league, in a Ro24 format, only six players would not qualify. At that point just skip the qualifier and make it a Ro32 tournament.

Ro16 is super competitive now, I feel that players in the Ro24 especially Ty/Ragnarok/sOs would have a good shot at getting to Ro8-Ro4, and even players like Percival gave Rogue a very difficult match, and players like Spear even beat regular GSL players like Special. It just feels boring to me seeing the upper cut of players fight each other all the time, to me having those newer underdogs was a huge part of what made GSL seasons so exciting. The meta feels more stagnant when 16 players only have to prepare for those 16, vs having to account for newer players with newer approaches and unfamiliar playstyles and strategies.
