Obviously it is more of a discussion "for fun". As I said, I don't want to take anything away from Rogue.I'm just a big fan of Hall of Fames and all that stuff, so it is a personal interest what exactly is considered a "World Champion".
And for your last point: Are the winners of ESWC 2011/12 world champions? Those were World Cups, even giving out more prizemoney than the first IEM WC...but with a player-field of 50% players nobody ever heard of... Again, everyone can call their tournament whatever they like. WESG could also be a contender for that in fact. So I personally prefer to just stick to the one tournament that is definetly the one with the highest prestige.

Fair enough I just think it's a bit weird / arbitrary to only call the world championships that are the result of a year-long circuit 'real' world championships. In fact I would argue the IEM qualifier format leads to a more fierce player pool because that makes sure only the most in-form players qualify and not players who were strong in the beginning of the year and then declined but still made it in on points. Also in many real sports world championships just have a normal qualifier, so it's not like that's a defining feature of a world championship.

He probably can play now but not until the end of GSL

I'm sad that Trap has to retire without having won a Code S. As for Rogue, well...

Some get galvanised having their last shot for the foreseeable future, for others it’s too much pressure and I’d wager Trap’s wired a bit more towards the latter.
And such a shame Rogue’s race with Maru for G5L may be settled by the former’s absence and not in a tournament bracket.

I stopped following sc2 closely in 2018 when Rogue only had like one notable title. Now he retires with 4 GSL lol

Just like Zest, I believe Rogue only takes a military break.

I like your optimism, but I‘m not sure GSL will still be a thing when Rogue returns. I lost trust in Blizzard and I would assume, GSL’s existence relies on Blizzard‘s money atm?

Imagine when Dark also goes to military soon, with Zest, Rogue, Trap already gone Maru will have free reign in GSL. Unless ofc Serral/Reynor comes.

TY will not come back to sc2. Instead he plans to be a sc1 streamer.
Stats will definitely come back to sc2 though.

Considering the ESL contract ends this year I wouldn't be so sure about that. Artosis leaving korea is also not a good sign although it oficially has nothing to do with that.

Anything new about his retirement? Is there any other reason why he didn't participate at GSLS3? So sad to read this. What was the reason for him to not participate at TSL9 either?

When the military duty approaches, the young men forbidden and discouraged from leaving the country. Probably the reason.

Well, Rogue indeed will go to military (either already or next week), and he also said he will return after military services. He was interviewed by DPG's captain EnChant a few days ago: https://www.scboy.cc/?thread-381794.htm But it seems no one translated it yet.

i think Maru's got an excellent shot at G5Ling this season tbh. hero's his biggest threat, and hero has looked shaky in the ro6. It's also not a guarantee that hero makes it into the ro4.
For all the other players still in it, maru's a massive favorite as they are either terrans or DRG/Ragnarok.

Thanks. So I might be around again since Rogue won't retire. Rogue and Zest seemed doesn't want to give up Sc2 despite rumour saying Sc2 is dead.
Hopefully they let the fans to send some gifts or cheerful remarks before he embark into military service?
