It was always a bit awkward the last two years when the GSL quarterfinalists had to play off against each other in a single bo5 for two pretty lucrative spots in the season finals. That does make sense actually
I dunno, format change (and fewer players in an already struggling scene) I’m really not sold on. The format I’d have to see it in action and it could deliver, just not sure either way yet.
First prize is way too out in front of second too, so not a huge fan of that.
Anyone got a link to the qualifier brackets?

Glad for herO, saw that ForGG tried to qualify. Did he actually play much recently? Sad he didn't do it since he was doing pretty good on Day 1 it seems.
Also considering Leenock is doing fairly well at Age of Empires it might have been a good choice for him to switch.

Another link is the alpha x crew's cast which you can read about here

Looking at the qualifier brackets, I feel like there'd be enough players to do a ro32

Think we're going to have some really fun groups this time around - looking forward to it! Other than Nightmare and Ryung(vZ), I could see anybody upsetting anbody

sad Puzzle isnt getting very far in the brackets, he was one of the most promising protosses prior to the SlayerS drama

I dont remember the last time i watched a tourney with round robins. Feels like tiebreakers are so obnoxious but im sure that’ll be ironed out.

I remember ages ago in Code A round robin tiebreakers, it went on for I don't know how long due to it being best of 1's. I even forgot the players involved but I do remember Wolf was there casting it. It was stupid but funny how it felt like it'd never end.

Excited to see how Ryung performs after his very very impressive display at Katowice! KeeN not qualifying (didn't check if he tried) is a bit weird after his good return in that EPT cup, but I am not surprised about Percival given his performances at Katowice. Leenock switching games seem like the ultimate move since he is very successful in AoE4 at the moment

More like 24-28 players. 32 would've been a bit too much, you would've filled a couple of spots with players that aren't really competitive

The problem is the power level drops off pretty dramatically. Sure you could add in Keen and Percival, but you go anymore than that and you are just going to get a fourth player in a group that is 95% to lose any series.

i think 7 players had a chance to qualify to ro20: keen, alive, prince, percival, true, byul and forGG then you have to drop to puzzle, chance, curious...
at the end of the day, 20 of the top21 korean players on the aligulac ranking qualified, only keen (#18) didn't make it

The ro16 format is tough but if you want to keep something that looks like a classic GSL format, this is as good as it gets

I'd love to see Serral play against ANY of these players on Korean soil in a serious premier, prep style tournament.
Also, winning preparation style tournaments make you a much better player than weekenders.

The bo3s need to be bo5s and the semifinals need to be bo7, then it is a kickass format.
You fight your way through a really hard round robin, and then a bo3 where anything can happen is gonna decide if you move on or not? The whole point of round robin is that it forces way more skill from players to succeed, making people then battle it out in a bo3 in the next phase is both illogical and just feels anticlimactic.
CHANGE IT NOW
