Timestampped link. Honestly AoE2 looks sick, sc2 is a much faster game so I enjoyed watching the aoe2 games which were a bit slower. The casters also seemed pretty good, 10/10 would recommend watching the aoe2 side of things.

Fun to watch. It is amazing that a 20-year-old RTS (that is not BW) still gets lots of viewers. AOE2 is simple on the surface but is beautiful in its complexity underneath, much like SC2.

I hope AOE4 will be simliar to AO2 in its core gameplay but shorten the initial downtime before you start to interact with your opponent.

Technically speaking it's a lot younger considering the Definitive Edition. Also I believe the game is being updated more than SC2 thus it feels more alive. Also AoE 4 announced while the last SC news were mostly negative.

Honestly AOE2 is harder to play compared to SC2. Maybe the ceilings are close, but it's hard to be good at AOE2 compared to SC2. I'd compare it to BW, but it's a lot more of a thinking game. You're fighting over the same resources compared to having a natural 2nd base, 3rd, etc. With the many different civilizations and they all get different tech trees, it's harder to get used to it. Considering it's a randomly generated map, you can't really practice openers that much it's much of going with the flow. The mechanics can be tricky to get used to.

The difficulty of either game is not really comparable. AoE2 has a slower pace, a much more taxing economy system, less responsive units and a very pronounced system of units hard-countering each other.

Regarding the civilizations, they are pretty much the same except some unique units or economy buffs. It's like Starcraft 2 but you can only choose different versions of terran, where some have stronger tanks and some have an interesting ghost spell and some can't build marauders.

It was weird how bad they were in the fundamentals. Like Hera spamming pylons way before population + floating money. And Reynor building lot of farms for no reason and not aging up but queueing many villagers.

Seems like they really haven't played the other game (except Viper) which is a bit strange.

Great tournament. I wonder if the Red Bull folks knew that AoE players probably wouldn't want to sit through an entire SC2 set in the middle of an AoE2 tourney, and same for SC2 players watching AoE. (Although myself and, it looks like, a lot of people do want to watch the full showmatch after watching the highlights.)

I love stuff like this. It makes me miss watching Archon games and other creative or just plain fun stuff at Red Bull Battlegrounds in the past. I'd love to know if they have any desire to have more players do for-fun crossovers with other modern RTS or older RTS like War1/War2, C&C, or even Dune 2.

I wonder if the folks at Red Bull would ever be up for facilitating an RTS event featuring multiple RTS, something like a mashup between Homestory Cup and HyperX Showdown. + Show Spoiler +

(If that was even the name of it, anyway it was an FGC thing a while back when HyperX invited a bunch of Street Fighter and Smash Bros. pro players together to play different fighting games as well as completely unrelated games like Jenga.)

Maybe in a pandemic-less future.

Anyway, fun showmatch and great games in the main tournament finals. Cool format as well (the Empire Wars mode combined with the tournament format), doing something I wanted to see in AoE3 a long long time ago. Super glad I had time to watch it today.
