Gameheart is the first one, Pro 2020 the 2nd and WCS 3.0 the last!
Which observer interface do we like best?

I also don't like how we use a wrench and sword for workers and the army. I guess switching up and having icons is nice stylistically, but nothing in this game uses a wrench or a sword. SCV uses a drill and zealots use psi blade. I am not sure if we can even switch between apm tab/resource lost in the Pro 2020 display, so I think that's some feature loss there. I'm finding a lot of people are actually confused by the new Pro 2020 version too! | ||

In practice being language independent is not that big of an advantage. And Gameheart's icons are less confusing, and can more easily be distinguished since they're not all the same muted colour. One thing Pro 2020 does have going for it is that it shows the upgrades, which is much more useful than the APM on WCS 3.0. | ||

Also even as a SC2 player, seeing icons like sword, wrench, etc. is awkward and doesn't feel clear or intuitive enough to me. Those icons don't appear anywhere in the game like someone else said. The coloring of the numbers is also a little too weak for me to instantly associate a number with something. Like the blue and green in WCS 3.0 are strong and are clearly for minerals and gas to me, but with Pro2020 it's too light for me to instantly think it's the blue of minerals and green of gas. | ||

The "stock" observer UI is much better lucking. Though admittedly it wastes a lot of space and cannot show some things concurrently like these can. I just wish they would improve the look of those UI themselves. | ||

They should just swap it back and Pro 2020 would be fine IMO. If it really can't show additional stuff like ressource lost etc that would be another downside. Is that so? I have no idea? | ||

I always found 3.0 clunky and never liked the style of it Edit : also the backstory of Pro 2020 is that everything was made bigger to be friendlier for mobile / tv users which make up 30-50% of viewership. Thats why the production tab on Pro 2020 is a chonky boy | ||

Thats why the production tab on Pro 2020 is a chonky boy It's really nice because you get an EXACT number at ONE GLANCE. You also see how having to pull workers or stop mining affects things, it's faster than counting gas geysers on a minimap (some of which may be mined out), it's faster than staring at a minimap and trying to figure out which minerals are half-mined or full-mined, etc. It's just a lot of information at a single glance, and probably the 2nd best "who is winning?" number you can check after total supply | ||

And I disagree that income is that important. The income graph is more telling, the number by itself at x moment is often misleading depending on mules being dropped, worker transfers, etc... Also gameheart actually shows income too bottom right as long as you don't have anything selected like the minerals in that pic so it's a non-issue. And observers rarely select stuff unless they're checking kills on a unit for example | ||

GameHeart looks slick, too, but it's not my favourite. APM display is useless imho, especially since the discovery of rapid fire tricks. Show upgrades all the time, maybe even with some kind of progress bar. | ||

I wasn't super fond of it since release of it: I like the WCS 3.0 one over gameheart because it makes the main bar bigger, but the command card from gameheart was better (not fucking with it). Also yeah, income is suuuuuuuuper helpful and important, it being missing is ridiculous. | ||

Personally I prefer to have some of the observer UI info selectable by the observer to show a particular stat or bit of data when its pertinent. Cramming too much in, ok it’s nice information but it can be too much visual clutter/take away any mystery from the game. If you’ve followed the game for 10 year and haven’t been a complete idiot in consuming games, having income rate, resources lost along with the banks and supply info give you a real, real good idea who’s winning, sometimes to an anticlimactic degree. | ||

It's like having at all time all the stats that are displayed once or twice during a football match (ball possession, etc). Useful sure but kinda kills the magic of the game. Imagine a football game where the commentator just keeps on saying "bro just look at the ball possession bro, it tell the entire story xd" every 5 minutes | ||

--- I actually find it weird that a lot of the popular casters don't pay much attention to what is happening in the game and instead talk about random real life things; it can be actively distracting and worse than if they had just said nothing. Even after all of these years i have a tendancy to assume that if a caster is talking about random unrelated crap, it's because there's nothing important happening in the game that they are observing at the moment. That couldn't be further from the truth. I still find games all of the time where e.g. a protoss player will build a stargate, build a unit out of it, kill two overlords and then fly across the map and kill some drones before any caster even mentions that the P player built a tech building ever - let alone when they built it. If you were blind you would legitimately have no clue what was going on. It's not at all specific to protoss either, there are so many zerg games where it's just never mentioned if the Z dropped pool first or hatch first, on how many drones, if and when they took gas, how much gas they mined, if they dropped the third hatch before queens, how many initial zerglings were there and what are they doing etcetc! People just go off on weird rants about where they want to go on holiday and it's like yooooo there's a whole game happening here. | ||

Not entirely true, although I agree that it may not fit starcraft perfectly, it does convey what is being displayed perfectly for beginners. Additionally, units in this game do use wrenches and swords. Nova uses a sword called the monomolecular blade in Nova Covert Ops. and the SCV repair icon contains wrenches so it can be assumed that they might use wrenches to repair units. | ||
