Hello TL.
For the second consecutive GSL season, I have come, with increasing frustration, to the forums to see if I can spur Blizzard into action again.
The official WCS Schedule is still wrong. EDIT: Confirmed at the end of the S2 GSL finals.
I know there are other places to get dates for events, but as of yet, the Liquipedia article and TL don't seem to have the GSL on their calendar. It's getting more and more difficult for me to help people attend these events (and plan for myself too!) when there's no hard evidence when these events will be.
I know Blizz is bleeding employees in the esports divisions. I know it's hard to communicate and coordinate with a foreign partner company. I know that getting everyone on one page across disparate platforms is a challenge. I know these things because I've done them all in my professional life. It is not hard for a division of a massice corporation to ensure their official online schedule is accurate. It took a frustrated forum post last time to spur you into action, so I hope that's all it takes this time too.
Blizzard. Please. For your viewers. For your players. For your reputation. And for my sanity. Fix your calendars so I can help people plan trips and schedules and stuff. Put the dates somewhere once they are firm.

While it may be of perceived negligence when it comes to the GSL, I'm sure the community is ready to build bridges. Whether it is cooperation with DeepMind, streaming platforms, even team owners or anything when it comes, we are just saying that we have people from the community who cares and will make it right.
We have a mature community that will make sure the continuation of what it is today that is called, the WCS Korea. We look forward to your response, Blizzard.

Creighton is a community hero!

Well shit. We have already everything booked for our Korea trip and S3 of GSL. Gonna be in Seoul 10-16.7 and according to the official WCS schedule there should be three ro32 groups within that time window (D,E,F). If there are changes, fingers crossed they will be positive
So will Afreeca publish the real-real schedule soon? Will the schedule be posted at the spot where you could go and verify before hand?
A big thank you for you Creighton for caring so much. Warms my heart.

Koivusto, I am really not sure. I hope that something official comes down soon! GSLs are traditionally held on Wednesdays at 18:00 and Saturdays at 13:00, but the WCS schedule is showing something wildly different. There are occasional changes to that schedule of course, but right now, the WCS schedule would be 100% anomalies. I'll post an update when I hear anything official about the new schedule.

You're right, the wcs schedule is quite random. Especially groups D and E both being on the same day. I thought GSL might be competing for broadcast times which are getting more scarce, but the schedule being messed up is a tad more believable, yeah. Still, if it's going to be the standard weekly schedule, we would get to see two groups still
Don't be a stranger Creighton and happy job hunting!

What exactly is this post? Scolding Blizzard for something you think, maybe, is a wrong schedule but you have nothing to prove otherwise? Also, Blizzard definitely hire you because you'd be able to figure out a schedule when the pro players who are actually participating in the event are still working out availabilities?
If people are looking to plan a trip around GSL, use the WCS calendar as a general overview of when GSL will be - if you're expecting specific dates and groups, wait for AfreecaTV to announce the groups/dates/times, which they almost always do as soon as they've solidified it. That's it.

Yeah, pretty much. Reading it back, I think I come across a little more harshly than intended. That's on me - I gotta do better with my tone in the future. Apologies for that.
It's been tough for me to get messages from dozens of fans who are worried about canceling flights and hotels because no one knows what the schedule is going to be or when it will change. I can appreciate that waiting to plan travel would be a more prudent option, but travel planning gets more expensive and stressful the longer you have to wait. It's just really frustrating for a company that has pitched "We do esports! Come support our esports!" to not have a schedule for their esports.

I went to korea hoping to see Scarlett but I didn't because they changed the schedule.
100 % agree and support you request. I hope they see it and take it seriously.
people plan ahead !!!!!

Well, I can't comment on how schedule of GSL is put to together and what the process entails...I imagine it can't always be easy. Though, if there's a history of WCS schedule being a lot off from fulfilled one, perhaps there ought to be a disclaimer on the site? Idk if this is the case.
Anyway, time to pray to starcraft gods

Why not complain to AfreecaTV instead ?

Nah, I think Afreeca probably has a reason for not releasing official schedule earlier. Would be interesting to hear how come if someone has any insight.

I remember this thread from last time, sad to see its needed again.
I really don't get it, if nothing is decided yet why is there a schedule? That only serves to confuse people, if it is decided why is the wcs calender wrong? (if its right then all good but according to Creighton that's unlikely)
I don't understand why some people seem to think its fine to have a schedule put up publicly that is blatantly wrong, if nothing is booked then take that shit down.

hey cool thanks for doing this. i just realized gsl might not be around much longer and i want to see one before they close up shop forever. but then i realized i have no clue how to watch it or how to even get the dates or where the studio
have you tried tweeting at artosis or tasteless? or even asking on the pylon show? maybe artosis can refer you to someone to work with to get the official dates.

I mean you're calling out the dates being wrong and saying you don't actually know if they are. It's not unheard of for GSL dates to be wildly different based on other events they have to avoid etc, which is very possible because of HSC/ASUS/WCS coming up.
TL/Liquipedia don't have dates because they decide not to update them from the calendar, but they should never be taken as official sources of info anyways.
This is such a dumb post, sorry dude.

OP. Watch the vod of the GSL finals. They showed an infographic of the schedule for the upcoming GSL season during the outro.

Holy carp you are right! Thank you so much, esReveR!!!! I didn't catch that! So good news: we know when the first 3 matches of the GSL S3 are. Timestamped VoD here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/442556912?t=02h27m
Wednesday, July 3: 18:30 KST (Group A) Thursday, July 4: 18:30 KST (Group B) Saturday, July 6: 13:00 KST (Group C)
So we can confirm that the official WCS schedule is wrong. I'll edit my original post to clarify, and hopefully, someone can update the official calendar soon so I can help these travelers book flights and stuff.

The one hour difference is explainable. The US observes daylight savings time, but whoever coded that website must not realize that Korea doesn't. That will fix itself in the fall, unless they fix it now.
I have no idea why Group A is on the wrong day or why the Saturday times aren't the GSL standard 1300 KST.
