Yeah... Okay... I hate Maru... I hate him for what he did to liquibets for S18... And I'm sure that I'm not the only one. After not winning anything after his 2015 SSL championship, he went on to win a WESG and back-to-back GSLs. That pretty much means that anti-Maru people who voted against him in liquibets shot themselves in the foot multiple times by doing so. I'm almost certain that no one could have seen this kind of outcome coming no matter how hard they tried. Jin Air and Maru fan boys on the other hand are probably rejoicing like never before. Up until 2018, sOs and Rogue were always stealing the spotlight. Not anymore... It's Maru's time to shine and that spotlight doesn't seem to going away anytime soon.
Speaking of unexpected surprises, what the heck happened to the former SKT players? INnoVation, Dark, soO, and Classic all seem to be struggling like crazy to make consistent results happen. INno dropped out in the Ro16 of both GSLs this year, and then went on to win HSC. soO grabbed second place... Again... Classic just got eliminated in the Ro32 of GSL S3 even though many consider him to be the best protoss player right now. And Dark grabbed second place in WESG and the Super Tournament, and then got knocked out from the Ro16 from yet another group of death...
Then you have Zest, who won 2 HSCs back-to-back and grabbed a 2nd place finish in last season's GSL. Has Zest returned to relevance? It's a bit too early to tell but it sure seems like he's on the right track. Stats also grabbed a 2nd place finish in GSL S1, then won Super Tournament. Then there are players like TY, Rogue, Dear, and sOs, who are all championship caliber players that have been putting up great results but keep falling short of a finals appearance. The SC2 scene is just so unstable right now... It's impossible to predict who's going to be dominating and who's going to suck. Is this a good sign that the state of the game is in a good place or a bad sign that everything is just too volatile and unpredictable? Only time will tell... Oh, and btw, none of what I said applies to Maru. He's the only one who is kicking everyone's asses while giving back nothing in return.
So, with that being said, let's figure out who the Maru of this season's liquibet was while also seeing the 9 other people who were just shy of a couple of points from becoming Maru.

Our Season 18 champion has 0 posts on TL, yet their account was created back in 2013... Who the frick is this person? I'll tell you who it is. Palmnuke is the only person who knew exactly who to vote for in order to accumulate 115 points out of a possible 147 points in a LB season where a lot of the clear favorites got knocked out of GSL tournaments. Were they trolling with their votes or did they legitimately believe their picks would pull through? Either way, whatever they were thinking, it worked...
