It's only been two weeks, and in all likelihood they didn't know about it until people started reporting it recently.

No one even noticed until a couple of days ago, lol

You know, there's a thing called Chess, or C&C or Warcraft, if you prefer, all of which don't have fog of war... or take Battle Isle, it's split screen, you can just look what the opponent is doing. I've got no idea why an open map should force singular fights.

I never knew C&C didn't have fog of war. Every one that I played had it. WarCraft always had it.
I've got no idea why an open map should force singular fights. A lot of engagements happening outside of main army fights depends on element of surprise and prediction. If you are seeing everything half of the units that are in the game lose part of their current purpose, some of them entirely. Oracle, Widow Mine, Lurker, Baneling, Templar, Ghost, all sorts of drops etc. I don't want to discuss this any further though...
By the way Rackle posted on battle.net that they know about it and are working on a fix.

I'm sure some people did, and didn't report it. There was a report on Battle.net 5 days ago that got deleted pretty fast (maybe the poster changed his mind).

I wouldn't make a claim about how hard it is to fix the bug as the functionality is currently intended... It sure seems odd its using different code from placing any other building inside the fog of war, but whatever. Maybe they had their reasons. However it would be absolutely trivial 15min fix to just remove the ability for now. Why have blizzard not done at least that?
Actually, it may even be possible to do with a mod made in the editor. Tournament organizers can just mandate the use of that mod for the time being. Who wants to have the honor of being the author of it?

I worked on a ticket for my company several days ago. Looked at it, guesstimated around 10 minutes to do it.
Just finished it today. vOv

I think everyone understands that patching code can be difficult. But this is a rather trivial problem: just remove the ability, it's completely useless! Or just revert to the pre-patch code, it's not like anything important has been changed anyway.

I've had to fix code that at first seemed like it would be complicated, but ended up taking a couple minutes. I've also had to fix code that I thought would be easy, but ended up taking several days. Every case is different.
EDIT: Oh nvm that was your point, lol. I should read more carfully

LOL? Which Warcraft doesn't have fog of war? I also don't recall there being no fog of war in C&C, but I played it maybe two times so I can not remember. But WarCraft? C'mon man, don't spread heresy.

C&C Red Alert had fog of war. You could build a satellite to reveal the map.

It just had the black shroud for undiscovered terrain. Warcraft 2 had fog of war though.
C&C was the same up until C&C Generals. C&C1, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, and Red Alert 2 all only had black shroud. There was an option in Red Alert 1 for the shroud to grow back, and the Allies had a unit and building that could generate a shroud around it.

I've got no idea why an open map should force singular fights. Chess isn't really a good comparison. It is a pure battle of the minds and lacks the real time component of an RTS. A fog of war in chess wouldn't make sense. It's not like you're trying to hide information, incoming attacks, etc (well maybe in your head you are, but not on the board).
