Very nice. I didn't expect this to be brought back so soon honestly, I thought it would take a bit longer. Good to see.

Great system, thanks for creating it!

That's great news! But at the moment the box is not "tickable". I click but it's not getting ticked. Is someone else having this issue??

Thank you guys so much for putting in this option. It really means a lot to me! Works correctly for me on firefox.

I use chrome and it works fine. However, if you mouseover [spoiler hidden], it does spoiler.

We can't stop the browser from showing the URL regardless. Solution: Don't mouseover spoilers .

I feel slightly sorry for you for putting this effort to a great feature, long asked for by almost everyone, just at the time when it seems that there won't be much to spoil anymore ...

I tried refreshing and also making sure that Chrome is up to date. Tried with without adblocker but the issue persists. What is funny is that on my virtual machine it's working with chrome (which has the exact same version and settings on Chrome as my physical one).... Which means that it's only on my physical one and not something which impacts everyone.
Sorry for the hassle, I will continue to see if I can find the reason but you don't need to worry. Thank you for the assistance anyways and of course thank you for bringing back the spoiler free TL!!
Cheers =D

Awesome! Just a quick note, the spoiler warning doesn't update until page refresh for the left hand bar that shows thread names. This is the case for both toggling on and off spoiler free mode.

I like this a lot. Its so hard to avoid spoilers in esports. This way, I can come to TL for the news and not miss out while I'm ducking spoilers.
|
While I don't really care about it, I can understand why others deem it important.
Honestly, I go to TL because I want to know which games I should watch. With dozens of matches going on, and my life getting more hectic, I really don't have time to sit down and watch these tournaments live. I just go to TL and read the polls to find out if I should watch a match/game on vod.
|
Good work. Been spoilered a few times here by the thread titles in the left bar. Kinda wish you could have spoilers on at all times though and not just for 24 hours.

They never know exactly what is behind that spoiler even if its something from a week ago.

I was so happy to see this thread!
And the implementation is more comprehensive than before - thank you for all the care that went into this.
I personally think 48 hours is much more useful than 24, considering there are events happening around the world and it's sometimes hard to keep track of time zones.
Even better, I'd vastly prefer to have No Spoilers be permanent because then I'd start actually visiting TL before catching up on all my VODs. Like most readers, I look at the headlines of every featured news article, so if I knew I was caught up on VODs, I'd happily click the headlines that say [Spoilers] to see what they are. Right now this new feature doesn't change my behavior at all because I don't always know 100% that the event(s) I've missed happened in the last 24 hours. This is why permanent hiding is better for the majority users IMO.
Secondly, when someone checks "No Spoilers" they're going to expect, well, no spoilers, and will be confused why there are spoilers everywhere when some are blocked out. Users are going to think the site is broken unless they read this thread. Hope I'm making sense here....
Wouldn't be the worst thing to have both options as checkboxes:
No Spoilers [checkbox] 48hrs [checkbox]. (Checking the 48 hrs box automatically checks the first box as well). Heck, you already have the row carved out for it
|
Great, great stuff. Thanks!
I'm going to be using this

I'm indifferent to the feature, but for debugging, it still seems to show under featured articles without any spoilerism with the button checked.

This has been working out great for me. I wasn't expecting the "current players" changes to broadcasts, but it makes a lot of sense.

Why do I no longer default to TL as home page ?
Because of these massive spoilers.
Spoilers all the time, spoiling my experience of the site.
So I start with some spoiler free site (eg. sc2links) make sure I'm relatively up to date on vod, then visit TL if I get the time (or not, more often) .
Result is I'm missing out on live content coz I don't have the live streams that TL offers on the right, I miss out on the rest of TL site, basically I'm scared of visiting TL.
Some time ago, we had thread titles like this one :"GSL group A recap and group B preview" http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/starcraft-2/449119-gsl-gt-ro8-group-b-preview-group-a-recap
That was awesome, it poses no problem for anybody, you want the result ? click the post. You don't ? well at least you know there's some VOD to watch.
Now for some reason, every post about a competition starts like "Dark beats Dear 4-2 in SSL"
I do have the "no spoiler" checkbox marked, but it only lasts a ridiculously short time (24h ? How often are we supposed to visit here ?).
So, a simple solution is simply to avoid spoiling in the post title ! Cite the players, the competition, and let the results be in the BODY of the post, not the title.
Thank you.
|
If you aren't able to see the games live it's in your responsibility to avoid spoilers. TL is already doing you a huge favor with this 24 hour rule. I don't know where those complaints are coming from, in other sports it's normal that results get published without spoiler-options and people aren't complaining either.
The argument was that because of the different time zone we aren't able to watch korean leagues live but with the 24 hour rule everyone should be able to watch the games within time if they are interested. And when not it's on you to keep yourself from getting spoilered and not on TL.

thanks for the response seeker, I do understand it's hard to please all users
I'm just sayimg I've been using TL for years and this type of trend in post titles is kind of recent (maybe a couple of years ?)
For charoisaur, you have to admit that while esport is similar to sport like football, there are also differences, e.g who watches replays vod of football matches ?
If you've seen the match you click the post to read the recap and the story, which is why you go to TL and not just watch the vod, you don't care to have the result not displaye on the front page. If you haven't seen it... well, watching matches when you know the end score is less enjoyable. There's enough content in vod to fill the time I have for sc2 in a week, but not if some of it is "spoiled", especially in the KOR scene
anyway thanks for TL I still do enjoy browsing here, I'm just very careful about visiting TL, hence it's not my home page anymore. Kind of a shame in a way.

As the person who writes the recaps, I think I have a unique perspective on this that will maybe help you understand why things the way they are. I wake up at 4:30-5 am as many as five times a week so I can watch and recap every GSL/SSL/VSL game as well as spending entire weekends watching IEM/WCS. If I don't like the matches, I watch. I don't care about the players, I watch. I do this because there are some people who really do appreciate the recaps.
The reason the recaps are titled the way they are is because they are more visible when titled as such. More people read them. More people watch the clips. More people reply to the post. It's a forum. More discussion is a good. If I were only to look at this on a personal level, the changes you're suggesting would devalue the work I do by making the recaps less visible. You are part of a vocal minority that complains about the way the recaps are titled, but we can't please everyone. Charoisaur is completely correct. If you don't want to be spoiled you are in complete control of that. I understand these are your concerns and I'm not trying to say they're irrelevant, but the spoiler function is working exactly as intended. Should that not be enough for you, I'm sorry.

I'm in the exact same boat, btw. Was fine in the past. But now that I have less free time, 24 hours is not enough for me to catch up on everything, so I visit TL way less often than before. Like, once a week or so instead of everyday. And I stopped reading any article now that I think about it while I was reading absolutly everything when I was less scared of spoilers.
Then again, maybe we are a small minority and maybe you guys actually gain more traffic with spoilers everywhere than if you avoid it at all cost/if the spoiler option lasted longer and hid the right side bar players name (Upcoming events) too. If that's the case, I understand. Just wanted to inform.
I totally agree that it's my responsability to avoid spoilers. On the other hand, if we actually are a bunch in that boat and are avoiding TL, not that great for the website.

Personally i watch gsl with delay with Ogaming TV and it's really annoying to have spoiler IN TITLE when i come here, is it that hard to just show the results in the topic ? I dont want to avoid this website.

This is interesting. When I see "Dark beats Dear 4-2 to advance to the semi finals of SSL" I am less likely to click on the news and read the recap than if it was titled "Recap of the SSL quarter final between Dear and Dark".
With the first title I get all the information I need already, no need to click on it unless I really want to know what exactly happened in the games.
The second title would get me to click on it to see the result, since it's easier than going to LP or the LR thread. Once I clicked on it I might just read the whole thing .
Seeing you say that it works the other way around just struck me as interesting.
I don't mind the spoiler situation, I usually check in within 24 hours of a tournament and /nospoilers works great for me.
If the no spoiler option wasn't a thing the titles should have no spoilers, but since we have the option, its fine imo.

I still don't understand why would it hurt TL so much to make the spoiler-free period longer. I understand that making it customizable would be work, but simply making it something generous, like a week, wouldn't hurt anyone but the pride of the staff in admitting that they were wrong.

I don't know if it would take work since the feature EXISTED. But hey. I understand it's a news site. That's why i don't come to TL often.

This was planned, it just fell off my radar. Whoops.

I'm sure I've posted before but in any case I would like to say that I would really appreciate a 7 day (or custom) spoiler-free option. I love TL to the point that I automatically browse to it idly, and suddenly end up ruining big matches for myself which happened just over 24 hours prior and I hadn't had chance to watch yet, and then get upset.
I really want to visit TL daily to check for other news like community updates and to see when tournaments I don't normally follow are happening, plus read the write-ups from games I have seen or for upcoming matches, but I can't do that if I get spoilers for games that I haven't. I'm blocking the TL site in my browser from now until the 2017 off-season, because staying spoiler-free is more important to me than seeing other TL content.
I hope you can provide a 7 day option soon - but if I'm in the minority in asking for this, then I understand.

I agree with this, I forgot that the blizzcon finals where played during the night to Sunday rather than the night to Monday so I just got the results spoiled. Normally weekend events have their finals are hidden on Monday mornings as most events end on Sunday. I would expect that if you can't catch the event live it seem like a common use-case to not be able to catch the vods (that might not even be up) the day after.
Sorry to bump a rather old thread but it was the most recent on the topic, and I figured it would be better than to start a new one.

Apologies folks. We intended to have a more toggle-able spoiler system in place for Blizzcon but other projects got in the way We will endeavour to have the revamped system online as soon as possible.

Wouldn't it be easy to just not have the spoiling content in the title. "GuMiho wins GSL, soO second place again" could be "GSL finals decided". This would be a fail safe for the spoiler system.

Since they provide an option to hide spoilers, it is absolutely reasonable to try to maximize article reading.

Yea it makes sense on the premise that spoiler-filled titles generate more viewers. I would actually argue that that they spoiler-free titles are better for viewership, since "have an open question" is basically law #1 of creating a good clickbait title.
Honestly this current spoiler system is awful, the biggest spoilers are usually in the front page and unless you have an account and are logged in at all times and have previously clicked the "avoid spoilers" button, you are going to have to see the front-page spoilers before you are able to click the button.
Reddit has been doing just fine with the norm of not putting spoilers in titles, and people have been consistently complaining about TLs system since the days it was implemented, so it really doesn't make sense to me why it still is this way

As I suggested in another thread: how about a "spoilerwall" which aks if you want spoilers to be hidden when entering TL.net for the first time? I think the current solution is a really good idea but the checkbox for "hide spoilers" is quite hidden, especially for casual visitors. You probably already read all the spoilers when you finally found it

I've increased the spoiler timer to 7 days so people have enough time to be spoiled somewhere else first.

I'm back to TL after avoiding it religiously until I could catch up on blizzcon (on spoiler free vod sc2 sites) Reading this excellent writeup
http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/527327-20000-my-tl-story
And seeing some articles he refers to http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/513297-asl-semifinals-preview-mere-mortals
all of them are spoiler free titles, funny or enticing, but spoiler free
So I can't help wondering still about the title thing being such an issue for increasing viewers; quality content gets viewership no matter
And anytime there is any big competition, you get ppl complaining about being spoiled (old hands know about it, they protect themselves with a spoiler free cookie or not visitng TL)
Thanks for the 7 days,

Nope, it's still there. Option is on the front page below the news boxes.

Spoiler free has been great for me! I've really enjoyed being able to use TL as a hub for news and streams while catching up on big tournaments
Sadly, it seems that the spoiler tags do not apply to featured videos, as the current featured video title has a spoiler for the grand finals of TSL5. Hoping this gets changed in the future, as I've really enjoyed this feature on other parts of the site.

So you made a second account just to bump this thread that you necro'd. Nice.
A couple posts up it says that spoiler tags last for 7 days after the tournament ends. Your original post was 12 days after TSL5 ended. Sounds like spoilers are working as intended to me.
