For Dark, it was the “Emperor” BoxeR who has led him to become a professional gamer. After his former team disbanded, BoxeR returned to take control of SKT1 once more, and soon recruited Dark. Dark begin to show his potential during proleague, and continued to grow even after BoxeR left. In 2015 he made the finals for the KeSPA cup for season 1 and 2 consecutively, but failed to take home the win. Now, in 2016 Starleague, Dark is 12-2 and looking for the victory.
Dark is often called “the last legacy of the Emperor”, and Dark doesn’t deny it. Dark still displays a love for the Emperor, who will come to watch Dark for the finals. However, this is only the beginning. I met Dark who not only wants to prove his legacy, but to overcome it, to rise as the successor to the T1 throne.
Q. It’s your first Starleague finals. Are you nervous?
A. I’m not sure yet. It’s not my first finals, strictly speaking, because I was a KeSPA cup finalist twice. Of course, that was just a short, in between tournament so I didn’t have much time to prepare or anything, but I think I can safely say I do have experience on the big stage.
Q. You slay Protoss.
A. I got a lot of Protoss during Starleague; MyungSik, Classic, and Stats. They all played differently but I didn’t lose a single set.
Q. You have your own distinct style.
A. ZvP got easier with LOTV. The Lurker provides a great way to transition between the mid- late game. Early drops or nydus worms are also really good.
Q. How did it feel playing Stats in the winner’s bracket Ro4?
A. He looks to play to the mid-late game. He’s less of a strategic player, but more of a macro guy.
Q. You said that BoxeR was going to come watch you.
A. I called him after I made it to the finals, and he said he would come and watch unless something urgent pops up. He’ll be great motivation for me.
Q. Your title for the finals is “the last legacy of the Emperor”. What do you think of this?
A. I think the title was given to me because of my relationship with BoxeR. It’s the truth. He saw my potential and gave me the chance. But if I stop there, the player “Dark” will forever be an incomplete legacy. I will overcome the legacy and announce the birth of a new emperor.
(note: “strategy” is used for 1 time builds that can only be used on specific maps and people often refer to it as “cheesy”. In Korean terms, Has would be one of the most strategic players out there.)
