I haven't done brutal yet but a small ground force + taldarim void rays do really well here. The taldalrim void rays are just a churning death machine once you get enough of them.

dark archons are fun vs protoss. Mind controlled units don't contribute to supply cap. I made some zealots to spend down my minerals, but I really don't think it was necessary.

Yeah holy shit, I was having trouble with this mision yesterday but with automatic assimilators at one of the extra bases( I didnt bother getting a nexus), the super chrono boost extra spell and the laser beam nuke, stargates building Tal'darim void rays and 1 gateway for dark archons was all that was needed to make this mission super easy

They can kill everything super fast but god damn it if they run into probes.

I spent a few tries with tal'darim voids and struggled on Brutal. Switched to Nal-whatever and it went super easy.

Are you guys just massing void rays for this? I'm having a hell of a time trying with stalker/reaver like I saw someone do on a video. Having to defend two sides of your base plus second base plus the advance is killing me. I got to the very end where they start talking, down to like 4 units, and then a damn behemoth gets spawned. Is that always triggered or do I just need to push faster? I need an easier way, I just have this one and then I can move on to the last two. I even skipped it and did the Templar ones instead and went back. I'm just bad, but have managed to squeak by so far, but so many things to look out for is crazy annoying.

Well I massed the Tal'Darim kind with the obvious support units (zealots/stalkers or whatever version you elect to include in the army) and didn't find the level very difficult. I think the trick is to not actually care too much about Alarak getting pushed back, you don't need to be pushing him forward the whole time. You can always regain lost ground by coming back with your army and crushing stuff. The only thing I'll add is that the expansion in the middle is really useful to take and that you shouldn't slack on air upgrades if your main damage is going to be voids.

I found mass stalker was real tough for a player with my skill (or lack of it) since I tend to blink them all, only the first 1/3rd is ever hitting stuff, especially when trying to get around his bubble, and then just getting destroyed by the constant attacks. I will try going far more air units as I didn't make any and I think it hurt me quite a bit. The reavers were little more than useless for me since they were so far behind the army, always died if I blink away, etc. That's what I get for watching a good player and trying to replicate it. On to Void Rays then!

E: nope, got crushed again. I was able to go on and beat The Host (took me over an hour of being cautious and initiating fights with Spear abilities, etc.) but this mission is killing me. I gave Salvation a shot and that ended badly. Guess I should just play a bit more and get better at macro and decision making for these two missions.

When I saw that the TD VR got a bounce attack I tried massing them. Nope. Make Dark Archons and you can take all the value non-hybrid units. I had like 5-6 collosus, 6 carriers, tons of archons, and none of them went towards supply

My setup>
Void Rays + storm = MEGA OP This applies to every mission except those where you need to move fast because templars don't move fast

Basically what does air units naturally do? Clump. What does storm do? Regen shields! (I mean your own storm )

I added few immortals too because later if the only thing on the ground is a group of templars they won't live long enough.

Also I am not exactly sure about my Spear of Adun setup, what is unlocked in the mission? If the 5th column is available I had the basic(0 solarites price) skill.

The big disadvantage: this creates a really bad habit for multiplayer

Also, because this is not mineral heavy - build tons of cannons and zealots as the shield for templars.

Oh, and don't forget to use offensive skills of you ship
I imagine France should be able to take this unless Lilbow is busy practicing for Starcraft III. | KadaverBB is my fairy ban mother.

It's easy (at least with good blink micro) with Stalker if you alternate using the Spear of Adun's three lasers and barrier (it lets you offensively blink forward and barely lose anything) to clear their layers of defense. Splash in ~15 DTs too and if you snipe Oracles you can hold the position while using a big Stalker ball to kill the bonus objectives. Also to kill the 3 Nexuses easily you can just use barrier, blink in and snipe the Nexus, then blink out. To be honest some of the methods other people are describing sound easier, though Stalkers are the most fun to use .

It's weird, my solarite is bugged by using the archives where I don't get as much as I should have on most missions, so I can't even get that laser. I only get like 35 solarite for this mission when I should have far more. It's real annoying. I tried reloading the point where I have 130ish army supply and am right at the last spot, but I just get crushed with tempests, carriers, hybrids, etc. After trying and restarting so many times, I think I'm going to give up for now. I'm too damn old to get so stressed over this mission and Salvation so I've moved on to trying the mastery achievements and maybe some fun co-op games. This is all skipping the bonus objectives too, just straight for the push and 2nd base, but I still get wrecked. Not sure why this one seems so much harder than the others. Ah well, maybe sometime in the future.

Yea that bug seems to have happened to everyone, you can beat them all on casual in just over an hour while watching some LotV streams at the same time ^^.

Dark Archons are the absolute shit in this mission, gaining control of multiple capital ships for each archon is so sick, any mission where you repeatedly fight expensive units in small numbers, Dark Archons were so good that i never actually got remotely close to losing(except for the last mission of the regular campaign), usually going up to an effective 300 supply or something, eventually just taking over whole groups of units as they cost no supply anyway

What worked for me: Void Rays (normal kind), and only pushing when I had a mass of them (saving Alarac whenever he whined, of course). Took the second base, massed more Void Rays, and then roflstomped to the end of the map. I'm struggling to find a reason to build anything other than Void Rays once you get access to them...

I struggeled at the beginning but here is what i did: I didnt bother pushing alarak up a lot, i rushed down the taldarim base next to where he starts and put down a nexus /w gas after like 5 mins. Then went colossi stalker and stomped everything. I used call down fenix and the laser beams to clear some waves when i sent my stalkers hunting for the optional tasks.

I had more success with with regular void rays. Set up some shield batteries+adepts at the expo, built up to critical mass of VRs and destroy everything. Retreat to shield batteries when the super hybrid comes. Easiest mission

Just chiming in to say that massing NORMAL Void Rays with upgrades is absolutely the way to go, you literally destroy any structure or enemy unit instantly.

I played this on hard, but went basically only stalker/annihilator. It sounded good in theory, but I do not recommend this...
I didn't make any void rays, because I had just beaten the last mission with a giant fleet of only 36 void rays and I was sick of them at that point.

I just went for quick air upgrades and took second base pretty quickly, then just massed Taldarim Void Rays and this was one of the easier missions on Brutal. Getting solarite was easy with them as well. Solar Lance, Purifier Beam and Fenix helped a lot especially in the beginning..
It takes a fool to remain sane.

Was the mastery for this mission easy? After the hard time I had beating it on Brutal, I've been put off from trying the mastery, especially with constant back-door attacks forcing your army back, but I'm sure that it is much easier on Hard and there is an easy way to do it. I saw someone post a screenshot that they beat this mission on Brutal in just over 8 minutes so I guess I can wait for that video to emerge and repeat, but on hard, and never get pushed back. Just curious how much of a pain it is.

Dark Archons make it very easy because you can just take all their good units.

It's pretty straightforward. Ignore the sidequests and constantly stay with Alarak, produce Voids (normal ones) off one stargate while supporting them with Sentinels, Stalkers (some Shadow Fury DTs help too) and Dark Archons (use them to take over Immos, Collossi and air units).
Attacks are merely a problem as you can lure the first attack to your army with a stalker. Afterwards the attacks only killed my reinforcement pylons so keep a probe with your army. Also if you enter the bases or reinforced positions of the Tal'Darim use Solar Lance, Timestop etc to supplement your forces. Was one of the easier mastery achievements imo.

Did you guys expand for the mastery or is that too slow, need to stay on 1 base and keep pushing? Going to try it out tonight possibly. Thanks, I will try Dark Archons also.

No expansion required (would probably take too much time as well).

Just went for mostly Stalker/Colossi with a few Void Rays for support. Having the Havoc (sentry that gives +2 range) helps since 11 range Colossi and 9 range Void Rays just melt all the things before they even come close and they can target paint the hybrids for 30% more damage on them.

As long as you keep the deathball together and don't yolo it into the defenses as you push Alarak forward it isn't that hard.

Tried Dark Archons but the first one died before it had enough energy to even do anything so I reloaded but the army died too fast, he is too expensive it seems. I tried again just massing stalkers with 1 collosus (2nd got sniped in base) and some voidrays with the range sentry and a few zealots and it worked. Purifier beam + solar lance + repair passive helped quite a bit.

The trick to it is that pushing requires you to kill the structures/units ahead. You can actually just park a large group of units that won't die to anything he sends behind Alarak and take your sweet ass time with it.

Took me a long long time for my brutal playthrough (have a look!). I think the thing I missed was the time freeze drop. I went the death fleet void ray route. Can't even imagine how I'll get the mastery achievement.

It's much easier on Hard. I failed Rak'Shir brutal countless times, but on Hard and going for the mastery it is a bit easier because you don't expand, you just rush economy and units and take advantage of solar lance every minute basically until the end. Once I stopped trying to be fancy with Dark Archons (and losing them almost instantly) and just made stalker/zealot/sentry/voidrays and kept them with him at all times, it wasn't bad at all. The waves won't be 4-5 carriers and tempests, more like 2 collosi and 2 immortals or something that you can wipe out easily. I also brought along a probe and made a pylon on the screen as soon as the previous one was moving out of view so reinforcements would never be too far away (except for VRs).
