David Kim answered a question on Twitter about Ladder maps for LotV once it comes out. Apparently we're keeping Ruins of Seras, Lerilak Crest and Orbital Shipyard, but also getting 4 new ones. Hopefully they modify them a bit before, especially the first 2. What do you guys and gals think?
Yeah, we'd like to have the 3 new maps currently in beta + 4 new maps as the 7 maps on 1v1 ladder at the start of void. We will be pushing map diversity quite a bit.
The current overall plan is to evaluate these maps from launch, and potentially swap some out before the start of season 1 next year.
And for custom games, we definitely want to have the wings/hots maps working correctly with void resource changes when the game ships. Our dev team is currently working on this right now. Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/3nukep/new_maps_for_lotv_please/cvrevcx

Lerilak, ohh yes please that ramp is so balanced... so bad to see that blizzard never learns from their badly designed maps
|
Lerilak is probably perma veto by every terran and protoss, why would this map stay >.<

If only their was a good map-making community that cared about balance........ .durpa durpa..... gg bliz. Doesn't anyone from Blizzard actually read TL?

finally new maps. Orbital Shipyard sucks too

Im a zerg and I hate this map too. Crazy how blizzard just never learns how to make a map or atleast form a map pool of good maps from the sea of available community maps.

I'm glad that the very worst of the maps are going away (especially Bridgehead, Sweet Jesus that map is awful). I don't like Ruins of Seras though, such a boring, featureless map.
|
no word on using community maps, so disappointing...
|
Use community maps, blizzard. Your's are shit.
|
Exactly as expected, doesn't make it any less dissapointing though.
Still curious what they plan for the offseason.

wow, I need a bigger monitor for Ruins of Seras, minimap sooo tiny.
Lerilak Crest, number 1 vetoed map (I assume), must be because of variety, lets keep it -> blizz logic.

3 terrible maps stay, wohoo
|
Sad, the maps in the beta have been played to death by the people who have played it since release and arent very well balanced
|
And still the econ is not to be changed in any way, throwing away years of good/interesting maps.

Does that mean we get one more HOTS season? That would be great!

A thing I think is worth mentioning again, as I have in the past, is Blizzard horrible method of rotating maps, a map pool of 7 where 3 are guaranteed to be kept gives issues, especialy when the rotation period is a 3month interval. From there on there are only 4 possible scenarios and 2 possible outcomes, (please ignore how broad good/bad is, thats a whole different discussion). scenario 1: the maps are bad and good maps are rotated in, no problem. scenario 2: the maps are bad and bad maps are rotated in, sucks, but still no problem. scenario 3: the maps are good and good maps are rotated in, no problem. scenario 4: the maps are good and bad maps are rotated in, big problem.
why is scenario 4 a big problem? because both its outcomes result in problems in the current system. possibility 1: out of the 7 maps, 3 good but old maps are kept, now theres a healthy mix, but a portion of maps are outplayed and stale, as they've allready had half a year worth of play, and will now see an entire year of competitive starcraft possibility 2: out of the 7 maps, the older but good maps are swapped out, now theres an entire map pool of unstable maps, but here's the real kicker, assuming the old ones are kept, 6/7 of these maps will span half a year or 2/3rds of a year of competitive starcraft..

I think it means LotV launch and the so called off-season will be the LotV beta map pool, but theres no certainty.

The funny part about that was there was 8 maps in the beta pool. They loved inferno pools so mcuh they expanded the map pool from 7 to 8 so they could keep it.
