The Starcraft Mapmaking Association is proud to present our first map pack, showcasing new maps by the creators of Echo, Terraform, Korhal Compound, Coda, and more. With the approach and eventual release of LotV, we will hopefully have additional releases demonstrating our various ideas and approaches for mapping for this new game. All of these maps are published on all servers using the SMA tag.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/mJO8ksw.png) This map features an innovative 3rd setup involving the very vulnerable geysers. The geysers are initially blocked by neutral Assimilators, forming a tight wall. Destroying the Assimilators opens a narrow path between the geysers, allowing units to pass, but constructing your own gas collection buildings will seal the wall again. The rock tower to the side adds another layer of complexity. If it is collapsed while the Assimilators have over 500 HP, they simply take 500 damage - however, if it is collapsed while the geysers are unblocked or the Assimilators have 500 or fewer HP, the rocks fall and the geysers are permanently removed from the map.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/zG5CeiH.png) This LotV oriented 2p map is effectively a "spiritual successor" to Terraform. This map preserves the concept of a separated outer ring and inner area, which are connected only by narrow, abusable chokes. However, the long corridors have been largely replaced with wide open spaces.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/S5fkghH.png) A collaboration between SC2 mapmaking veteran monitor and recent BW mapmaking convert sTY_leZerg, this 2p map features an experimental 3rd base resource setup. LoS blockers prevent ground vision into the main, while a double set of destructible rocks allows a direct main-3rd path to be opened in the mid-game. Additional bases are difficult and will require careful army awareness and movement.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/C2T6YQ0.png) A non-standard yet beautiful 2p map designed with LotV in mind, Nemesis features open nats on a diagonal mirrored symmetry based layout. The central valley is the shortest route between players, but the outer bounds shouldn't be overlooked by the players!

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Kb8USg6.png) This fairly standard 2p map is based around an expansion pattern which gradually forces players closer to the map's center as the game progresses. Detailed background decoration shows a city surrounded by decaying industry on one side and a barren wasteland on the other.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Pf3ucBH.png) This experimental 4p map features a unique symmetrical nat/3rd layout as well as a set of backdoor corridors which can be used to harass the nat and 3rd, open a path to the main, or gain access to the tucked-away side bases.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/aTLisnt.png) A solid standard 2p macro map featuring everyone's two favorite decorative elements, beaches and bridges!

Now that the map pack is finally released I would like to take a second say thanks to all those involved and their patience with my extreme perfectionism!
But seriously, looking good!

Definitely an awesome initiative. Mariner looks crazy

A literal god tasteless :D Keep it up!

Yeah, you can actually choose to take an in-base mineral only expo, or use it for your macro hatch or macro cc (then lift). Also opponent wont b able 2 hit ur workers with ought vision.

Mariner looks super cool... if you play Marines as Bio Terran: 3 CC build, you have 3 mineral lines but only 2 bases. Seriously stronk plays can come out of that.

Nemesis <3
Tournament map pool HYPE!

Maybe for the off-season
|
How do i find these? search for "SMA" "Mariner" "Nemesis" doesnt find them
@nvm figured it out, was logged on acc without HOTS
anyone wants to play them?
|
Cool stuff guys, thanks a lot for it.

Oniric & Remnant look very reasonable but Mariner and Ida trigger my Blistering Sands PTSD. Why would anyone ever think that making a map with a backdoor into the main is acceptable? Please don't make me suffer through playing on those maps.

Holy crap these maps are sick, I hope you guys are allowed to make maps for the up coming map pools

Nemesis reminds me of King Sejong. I like it.
As I like all of these maps a lot.

Very nice maps. Lots of new ideas.
Mariner and Ida are my favorites.

I'll give some of my thoughts on the backdoors on the SMA maps you mentioned and why I like them-
I think the main issue with Blistering Sands' backdoor was that it shortened the attack distance significantly and was of no use to the defender. Plus it was harder to bounce between the backdoor and the nat entrance for the defender than the attacker. My hope is that the backdoor on Mariner will be more useful for the defender than attacker (especially with double rocks), but I could be wrong. On Ida, the backdoor is very experimental because it is relied on fully to expand around the edges of the map. It differs from Blistering Sands because the only way Ida's backdoor shortens the rush distance is by breaking 4 rocks- and even then, the defender has the advantage. I hope that the backdoors will be used more often for opening expansion routes instead of an additional path for aggressors, although I'm sure there will be some of both.

These all look really great, thanks for all the hard work!

I realize that the backdoor is different than on blistering sands. I just don't think there is such a thing as an acceptable way to put a backdoor in a main.

In my opinion the only nice map here is Remnant, the others look really annoying for the eye / obscure. Not visually pleasing at all, also most of them look gimmicky. I hope we don't have to play this on ladder, with exception for Remnant. It looks like all other maps were designed by silver leaguers.

As names go Nemesis > Mariner imo. Mariner just doesn't give the same feeling of conflict. Also what's with the name "Oniric Hopes". I first read it as "Oneiric" as in relating to dreams. Not sure what "Oniric" is meant to mean.

Maps are looking great.
Ida + Neo Porta Nuova + Mariner = Best 3 maps
With blizzards announcement on their new stance towards the type of maps they want in their map pool, maybe my favorites will soon be on ladder
Still waiting for a map like Jade with low ground main base. If blizzard is serious about the maps, lets get crazy!!!!

These look amazing man, thanks for your hard work.

Not sure what "Oniric" is meant to mean. Yeah, about that mean Igrok scolded me for it, since forever I have been very bad at naming my maps, specially on english. In my latest maps I have had issues with some people mispronouncing the name, and because of the slightly strange mix of "ei" on Oneiric I thought that it would be better to simply streamline the name to Oniric, which also gets closer to the latin/romance root of the word. But yeah, next time I'll be consulting again with the other mapmakers regarding names!

Wow, that's cool. Now you guys need to pull guys like Superouman and SidianTheBard into SMA to turn it into western all-star mapmaking community. I mean, TeamLiquid's Custom Maps is already an all-star mapmaking community but it would double the awesomeness or something.
