Hi everyone. Do you guys know an arcade game which contain almost all features and functions of Warcraft 3 was uploaded as soon as patch 2.1.9 went live? I mean, we can now play (almost) REAL WC3 melee games without WC3 clients!
Please note that I am NOT talking about Warcraft: Armies Of Azeroth (I haven't played it yet). The arcade map I am sharing with you is called (4)Lost Temple - War3 Mod (GA). The author's name is Renee (some Blizzard employees know this author).

You can use these link to find this map in your own region:
battlenet://starcraft/map/1/254131 (NA) battlenet://starcraft/map/2/178019 (EU) battlenet://starcraft/map/3/93500 (KR)
You can also found this map and another map called Prologue in Arcade by searching keyword "war3" in Arcade. It's a map of the first chapter of Reign of Chaos.
As some of you might asked questions like "Why did she do this?" or "Does it make sense?", I would like to explain for her.
The map is actually an instance of a MOD of Renee's, War3 Mod(GA). It is a mod which allow every map maker to use Warcraft 3 assets to make “magic style” arcade game with the powerful Starcraft 2 Editor. Renee asked Blizzard to make mod like this in 2012 (link), and then she decided to do something to help Blizzard to make the mod come true. And now you know the result.
The map/mod is still in development, as Renee's "team" is a one-man team, many things are still needed to add or fix, time is needed as well. Please report bugs you found or give suggestions in this thread: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/general-chat/75039
If you are interested on the future changes of this mod as well as Renee's plan, please read this thread: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/general-chat/76348
If you can speak Chinese, please visit bbs.islga.org to give your feedbacks and thoughts.
Thanks!

This is probably the most faithful and feature rich WC3 remake in SC2 right now, play it people.

I can't think of a way to phrase this without sounding snarky but is there a purpose to playing a WC3 mod running on the SC2 engine compared to just playing WC3?

Slightly more HD :D and skipping the hassle of installing/running older software i guess. last time i went back and played the war3 campaign it had some issues with my resolution and running it wasn't exactly smooth

This plus unlimited selection. Though, some people will argue this is not necessarily a good thing, etc.

You got to keep the new bnet friend list; b.net 2.0 is way less laggy than b.net 1.0 as of now (and although I know the WC3 community is now moving to WC3Arena, that's not the same thing anyway); better graphics; maybe more mods in the future? you know, I really like Raynor Party, but Uther Party was much better...

Anything about WC3 is awesome, so thanks and yeah, play it people :D

WC3 isn't widescreen, so there's that. You can use widescreen hacks, but then you disfigure the UI in the process since it was made for 4:3.
Now all we need is somebody really bored to write a rough WC3->SC2 map converter and dump the campaigns into SC2. Blizzard has a rough version of it in the SC2 editor, but it is lacking a lot (doesn't convert trees, mercs, water, ramps, etc). It would be annoying to have to write a JASS interpreter, though somebody might have already done that in the past.
|
Might be better to title it "First SC2 arcade game using..." rather than used. Makes it sound like the first SC2 arcade game ever used WC3 assets.
Very exciting news however.

vJass brings back some serious modding memories

Time to remake the SC2 campaigns using wc3 assets, for a different take on kerrigan's story...
|
Kerrigans story is super similar to Illidan. No need to remake it. Just change the winner in the outro.
