ugh.... It's like every team is losing its identifiable players aside from Jin Air and KT. sc2 is more of an individual game anyway, but still. It makes it harder to craft team storylines and hype when players are constantly drifting back and forth. Really annoying ><

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It's getting to the point where there's so many great teamless Koreans at the moment that KeSPA may have to set up a new '8th Team' again like they did after MBCGame Hero, WeMade Fox and Hwaesung Oz disbanded.

Sadly, I highly doubt they will. I'd be amazing but I just feel like we shouldn't count on it
nah, team 8 was founded to literally save high profile scbw players that had nowhere to go (it was a "dream team")
proleague is in a stable state right now, team wise at least, and if it reduces in scale a little bit kespa shouldn't be worried. LoL is their mainstay and they have run lots of leagues in the past that were stable and not as large (special forces proleague, etc). Individual players, even though they are high profile, shouldn't cause any worry if kespa focuses on quality and stability, especially since they continue to have better relations internationally

Anyhow, very sad news. Hope effort finds a new home (or starts to play BW again, oh please! The only zerg who could punish Flash's greedy openings.
To be honest, a lot of this has to be adoration. Pro-league is a line up of people shuffled out. Factory line work. Foreign tournaments and teams are a lot more volatile and dynamic. It gives them a sense of their worth, personally.
Good for them, taking the initiative to find their passion and those who would reciprocate it. This also takes die-hard fans out of the woodwork and into the mainstream. Maybe incite a bit more passion into public and mainstream tournaments.
Just because they leave the team they are on doesn't mean they are going to a foreign team. Its that time of year when their contracts end and teams shuffle around. I'm sure most of them are probably interested in hearing what the foreign teams can offer them, but they are probably taking offers from other KESPA teams as well.
EffOrt Leaving CJ Entus is a huge blow to KeSPA.......I wonder where he will go... all these koreans leaving there home teams... Fantasy leaving SKT and EffOrt leaving CJ...this is insane ....SC2 -_-
I almost believed Chuddinator when he said the korean starcraft scene was fine. Maybe if kespa were a little more sensitive to their players' wishes they wouldn't lose them. Nothing final in this specific case though, but i don't think it's far fetched that these players have reasons similar to Parting's.
Glass is half full or half empty. Personally, Im actually happy if a few of them moves to NA/EU. Im more than a little tired of seeing Taeja, MC, Polt, Stardust, HerO, Hyun, Jaedong, San in the top of every single tournament. This might even open up for new talent in Proleague. Im waiting for the next Maru!
I think KeSPA is slowly shutting down the doors for SC2, It's just not that popular, perhaps they are planning to focus on DotA 2 along side League, League is the new BW in Korea.

What? This exact thing happened every year even in BW. Contracts end, new contracts are being negotiated. Bear in mind that we have several direct quotes from Kespa representatives that Starcraft 2 is in MUCH better shape then it was same time last year.
On September 12 2014 19:19 LeeJohnDong wrote: Why koreans all bailing ? because of the wcs changes? all at once is a bit weird.
Because all teh contracts are ending in August. There's nothing more to it. Same thing (even worse, cause there were retirements instead of 'joining foreign teams') happened last year. And same thing was also happening in BW, although that was only Kespa teams shuffling players between them cause there was nothing else :p

It was still a massive deal in BW whenever A-teamers switch teams, Bisu going to SKT from MBC basically killed MBC's chances at playoffs for instance. It's not common that 4-5 A-teamers suddenly all jump ship.

There will be another season for sure. Teams are just negotiating new/old contracts. It happens in every sports, especially in soccer

I'm really curious how will all of this settle. Foreign scene might get a real boost if these players are willing to lose on salary in exchange for freedom

According to Kespa fanboy logic, everyone who's ever played for Kespa is a Kespa player, regardless of where they are now, just as long as they're still successful. It will take more than this to confuse them.
This is really sad, though. Kespa teams are bleeding all their best players, and I doubt all of them (or even most of them) will get picked up

He already is a top player. Just because he's been playing with one hand for fun for the entirety of Starcraft 2 doesn't mean he couldn't easily crush everyone if he wanted to.
Either way, I'll never forget his glorious BW days, when he was almost unbeateable and he won his OSL against Flash, and of course when I met him in Blizzcon 2009 that he also won.
a) - easy money in the foreign scene ?, or b) - KeSPa is getting broke ? (which I honestly doubt it)
It's really weird.. WHY ?? - everyone thought that the problems with region-locks would affect the other guys, not the Koreans that already compete in GSL/Proleague :/
I'd really like to know what's going on behind the scenes, why these players are leaving. I hope that they do have some solid plans going forward, I don't want to see another LYGF or Dear (although it is good he got pickup by Samsung afterwards).

Star players leaving teams to go abroad isn't good for the scene or sponsorships at all. This is a very bad thing for Korean SC2.
Seems like Korean players are thinking that SC2 is only sustainable in the foreign scene. While the Korean SC2 scene has had some improvements, I do not blame them.

Why do so many people here seemingly have such trouble understanding the reasons behind these player's decisions? Most of the times it's stated right there in the announcement or the exit interview ... All you have to do is read.
Players want to experience other things than be chained to KeSPA for all their careers. I doubt it's a money issue, since the steady income of being on a KeSPA team outpaces what most people make from attending big "foreign" tournaments especially if you deduct the travelling costs for attending. I doubt it has much to do with the region lock either, as that makes it harder for lots of Koreans to get at that "easy foreign money" not easier.

Don't know if they necessarily think foreign teams have more money, maybe they'd just prefer a chance to pilfer international tournaments rather than focus on Proleague.

I think this is a key point to remember. The people dropping out of teams right now are already notable in the scene (well most of them), and under the right conditions, could foster a cult of personality similar to other players who left Korea and became successful (Bomber, Polt, MC, etc.). More than anything, this seems like a calculated move by many players who recognize the potential of their brand.

The fact is that if they stay in KeSPA they can only win GSL outside Proleague. Obviously living visititing the world doing DH/IEM/RedBull/etc. is more exciting then stay full time in korea, especially if u are like PartinG, Rain or Effort that u already achieved some 1°st places in your carrier.

That does sound reasonable but like I said, Effort just doesn't look like a top korean. DH, IEM, etc may have way weaker player pools than any korean tournament, but still the ro8 will be all koreans. A few tournaments/months later you'll see Effort retiring. Unless he wins something, which I think is unlikely.
Does 'foreign team' for Koreans mean "EG pays you money while you practice alone and stomp people in lower-tier tourneys for college money", or do they actually play with people already on the team?
So many top players leaving their teams . Without Proleague i can't take SC2 seriously anymore . I wonder what an average pro makes nowadays ? Gone are the days when Flash gets over 300 000 $ annual salary without counting his winnings . How do top players expect foreign teams to pay them high salaries and send them to events all over the globe ?

I think I read somewhere that CJ (or maybe just Park) has a very strict policy about focusing only on proleague during the season, that's why effort and all the CJ players never really had results outside of proleague. But effort definitely has what it takes to take down big tournaments, he's very fast and accurate in his execution, and even though he disappointed in the GSL he still took down sos and classic, not counting maru (twice), flash, ty and soulkey in spl. I don't see why some of you think he is not a top player, he definitely has the potential.
Edit : also money isn't everything, maybe they just want to travel around and do something else than proleague.
