Our partners around the globe are beginning to announce their qualifiers for Season 1 of WCS 2014. If your New Year’s resolution is to become an eSports superstar, these qualifiers are your first step toward StarCraft II greatness. In the World Championship Series 2014, it’s possible to go from unknown to Premier League Champion in one season.
Here are all of the dates for all upcoming qualifiers, as well as registration links as they become available:
[NOTE: Please click through to the b.net page for clickable registration links]
Regional WCS Qualifiers If you’d like to establish residency for a WCS qualifier based on a visa or other temporary residency document, please contact Blizzard eSports at esportsteam@blizzard.com
You must meet the masters requirement to participate in a regional qualifier. You must be Master League on the server the qualifier is played on.
Ladder Wildcard Players with 200 wins on the region’s host ladder (“Americas” server for WCS America and “Europe” server for WCS Europe) in this or the past season will be eligible to compete in Ladder Wildcard Qualifiers for all remaining spots without meeting any residency or citizenship requirements.
Region Exclusivity and Transfer Players may only participate in one region — GSL, WCS America, or WCS Europe — per season. Once a player participates in any regional qualifier, they become ineligible to play in other WCS regions until the start of the next season.
Qualifier Map Pools Each WCS qualifier organizer will determine the map pool used for their qualifier. For WCS 2014 Season 1, all maps will be selected from the StarCraft II 2013 Season 6 ladder map pool and/or the 2014 Season 1 Ladder map pool. Please review the link provided for each qualifier when it becomes available for map pool details.
All Challenger and Premier matches in WCS 2014 Season 1 will use the StarCraft II 2014 Season 1 ladder map pool.

I like the new streamlined Code A format, with 12 double-elimination 4-player groups instead of the slightly arcane 3-round tournament followed by U&D Matches format. Anyone know if GSL will start broadcasting all of Code A again? I was really disappointed last season when they decided to only broadcast a few selected matches from Code A Rounds 1 and 2. Somehow I am not optimistic on seeing all of Code A since the consistent movement in Korea is less broadcasted SC2, not more, but since now there is more time in the schedule for these matches maybe it can happen, even if it's not Tasteosis or Wolfdor doing it.

I haven't seen any info on the ladder wildcard thing though? Any elaborations?

I mean we have now 46 players in gsl + 36 new = 82 - 32 code s = 50 which is why I said 50 so it seems that 2 players who are now in gsl will forfeit their slots (my numbers include zero and aria forfeits) 1 one of them seems to be jjakji but who is the second forfeit? There is only one player left who is not on a korean team it is Acer.INnoVation

Challenger league is not a group stage, its a single BO5.

He said about code a where it is a group stage
Oh, my bad, either way seems kinda unlikely much of that gets broadcast, but hopefully D:

2-4 Weeks seems pretty sudden to me. I took a break for a month from SC2, if I were to play in these qualifires I would have to skip Christmas and New Years for the sake of playing... I just hope Pro's either knew earlier or didn't take a great break Oo.
Also why are the qualifiers in January, I thought Season 1 were to begin in march? Anyways, I'm excited for 2014, this year I won't even get smothered by WCS!
Hmm, I don't know, it's hardly unmanageable short notice (for EU at least). China and Taiwan kind of got a raw deal but two and a half weeks seems like enough notice to me.

Well poor chosen dates at least for Europe. The 4th and 5th are still potential days for winter vacation because of the holidays which are all during working days. And qualifiers on short notice are a joke. i thought they wanted to improve. Does not seem to be the case in that regard

I suppose that Europeans can try to qualify on the 12th of January as well, as this is the date for the wild card qualification. To my understanding the wild card qualification is open to all so that must includes Europeans too, right? As long as they have 200 wins on the ladder that is. 6 spots for the grabs. Practice tactics against Jjakkji in particular, he is doing rather too well on the EU ladder so far.

Has anyone noticed any Koreans showing up on either server besides jjakji working towards the wildcard qualifier? With 200 wins required they should have to be getting started pretty soon right?

2 players forfeited GSL slots, one of them jjakji and other is unknown.

Lets think about it: He is already in WCS EU so if he forfeits he will lose his WCS EU spot which will be very hard to return and moreover he will have to qualify for GSL so I think he will play WCS EU and if he gets eliminated then I think he can switch to GSL but in the currant situation I think he will play WCS EU for sure.

According to his manager, Jjakji doesn't have to qualify through wildcard qualifier since he will be considered a resident.

Yeah but he will compete in Proleague, that's why I'm wondering... But we will see..would deffo love to see him in EU though

Lets be honest IM has First, Trap, YongHwa, Squirtle, YoDa and ByuL + HerO I think all these players are better team players given their past team results then Mvp. I think Mvp will not the regular IM player for SPL. I want Mvp to play a lot especially with his unique mech style builds but I doubt we will see him a lot there

If he is clever he will qualify thought the wild card system. He doesn't seem to have much competition atm, and could eliminate potential threats from outside looking for wild cards. Time will tell if there is any other contender though.

It's a team league, but it's not an all-kill format. Unless they changed it, Mvp could do well in a format allowing extensive preparation in advance.

He doesn't have much competition in residents qualifer either... And, it's allowed to try to qualify through both, isn't it?
A friend of me from SEA wants to play in the qualifiers but we are not 100% sure how to understand the requirements. It says he needs to be Master. Which season does he need to be Master? The current one that is ending on Jan 3rd? The new one that is starting on Jan 3rd? Or any season? He was GM on SEA before but right now he is only Diamond. The SEA server does count here and only for the Wildcard qualifier the NA one counts, right?
