This thread is getting way to philosophical. Why are we talking about fake good mornings? There is the more simple parallel with pre-game/post-game handshakes you see in soccer/basketball/tennis. I think it's actually good that the e-sport scene has adopted some form of exchange between players to show sportsmanship or lack thereof. Imagine people just enter games and leave, not saying anything. Riveting. Sports is built upon tradition. In tennis it is custom to shake hands after a game to show sportsmanship. So when a player refuses to shake hands it's dramatic. When the idra doesn't gg, it's dramatic because that custom is in place. | ||

Posters went on a tangent about etiquette that I found interesting. As for the original topic I think it's pretty obvious that EG is a brand and they were justified because who wants to support a player that attacks the fans? That said I honestly think it was more of a "last straw" between Idra and management. Sadly I think it might have helped him to have results at this point. From the current perspective, he's just a player who is rude to the fans while having no recent success. What part of that formula is profitable? | ||

Honestly, I think part of it is that each of those people have the game to back up their trash talk or misbehavior. Idra himself admits he hasn't (hadn't?) been doing well lately, especially in relation to the size of his contract.... when you're in that precarious situation you can't afford to be mouthing off as well.... If some nobody in any of the sports you mentioned pulled any of those stunts it would be entirely natural that they get fired. Of course Idra's not a complete nobody, but it just seemed like the only publicity he gets (got?) nowadays was from bad manner, instead of how he used to have good results along with exciting rivalries. Just too bad he couldn't have let the chill side of his personality show more in public rather than just the competitive, angry one. He'll probably be an excellent caster now that he's not playing competitively. | ||

Rasheed Wallace dialed down his behaviour during his stint in Portland after realizing the impact it was having on his children (who were being harassed at school). He was also frequently suspended and fined whenever he acted out. Kobe Bryant had to go to trial, settle out of court for possibly tens of millions of dollars, and play OUT OF HIS MIND in order to save his reputation. He had to pretty much become the best player in the league after that scandal to keep himself marketable. Ron Artest suffered huge consequences for his temper. He was bounced from team to team, despite being the best defensive player in the league since Dennis Rodman. After the fight he was suspended from the league for a year, and traded away to the bottom-feeding Kings. The only reason he's on the Lakers is because he took a pay cut way below his skill level. Don't pretend that none of these players didn't suffer any consequences for their behaviour, because they did. You're the one blowing this way out of proportion. All IdrA did was lose his job. It's not the end of fun or personality or shit-talking in e-sports. He's going to get plenty more opportunities. The community doesn't 'need to grow a pair' just because a player lost his job for doing something he promised his boss he wouldn't do. Sheeeeeesh. | ||

You're pretty emotionally invested in idra's it's clouding your judgement. For the more egregious examples, the players suffered worse consequences than idra. Michael Vick went to freaking jail, which in turn meant released from his team and he lost all his sponsors. Artest was suspended for a year for his actions. I don't agree with some athletes and behaviour and the amount of second chances they get. However, in all cases you need to have extraordinary skill to overcome those incidents. Look at Javaris Crittenton who was involved in the gun incident with gilbert arenas. He's out of the league because he just wasn't that valuable a player so wasn't worth the trouble. Idra got released from his team and you're trying to equate it to these sports examples saying the athletes got off scott free? Idra's punishment is nothing compared to them. He was released from EG, but he's not prevented from finding a new team. He just chose to retire as a player. Boy these idra fanboys sure love to exaggerate his martyr status that it's quite laughable. | ||
