I watched the community devolve into a mass of balance whiners too many times - literally ruining LR threads that could have been fun. I've also watched the community stalk, dehumanize, and devalue (spamming, booing, DDOS attacks, hatemail, hateposts, spam to sponsors, etc...) the pro-gamers that make this whole "esports" thing possible over the smallest stuff: probe rush into nerds typing walls of text describing what a horrible being someone is. I guess I'm more laid back when it comes to some but I have to wonder about the happiness and personal lives of people who get that worked up over a video game they are watching someone else play - or getting worked up over the actions of a professional gamer who they have never met whose actions basically don't impact them at all. Yes, I understand you believe you are the one true defender of esports and that the only way for it to advance is if "pro gamer X" dies in a literal fire.... lol. I don't even understand why people would be offended at all by Idra's post on TL that has been quoted so many times (the "you are a bunch of f***ers" one) - I though it was funny. It's almost ironic that the point he was making (at least imo) lead the exact same people he was calling out to go on a witch hunt. Thing is too, I'm a pretty sensitive person in real life but I just can't get worked up by that no matter how hard I try. Do you and everyone else with this opinion live in a bubble? EVERY community becomes like this when it becomes large. The whiners will always voice their opinion. Unless you only play starcraft 2, I have a hard time believing you think it only applies to starcraft.

If you listen to Incontrol's explanation EG didn't have much of a choice. IdrA put Alex in a situation where he essentially had to chose between IdrA or the sponsors that support the entire team. At first I was like "what? why would sponsors even care about angry fans?". But from the perspective of a sponsor it looks rather nasty. Imagine you are one. You have an ordinary day and then letters start streaming in with the content like: "hi. You know that EG team you are sponsoring? Well, I guess I'll boycott your products because of that. You wonna know why? Because they have this charming guy who calls himself Idra and he has called me and all my friends "fucks" on a forum and said you are paying him to treat us like that. Good bye." So they must be thinking if there are 100 letters like that there are probably 9900 more people who feel that way but just didn't bother emailing. Not only it decreases the effectiveness of sponsorship, it can actually outweigh the benefits. E-sports depend on the ordinary businesses for sponsorship money. And ordinary business will never forgive behavior like that. This should be a lesson to all of e-sports: learn to behave.

There have been lots of "stars" with mediocre results who were famous and made good ads money because of looks, reputation and stuff.

EG can easily survive without Idra, where as the NFL really needs a few loud mouths to sell jerseys and tickets to a certain demographic. The best players in sports don't necessarily have much of a financial hold as well. You forget that there are other good players alongside the 'best' players in other sports. NFL teams can easily survive without a popular player or two, especially since NFL is the most watched sport in the United States.
