Very positive that they add an "official" individual league for both EU / NA.
This is VERY good and the best possible move I think for trying to sanctuarise SC esport in EU/NA.
Supporting EU/NA e-sports by limiting the number of koreans being able to get spots through those continents would probably have been better if you asked me. Everybody knows its going to be 16 koreans every year this way.
I don't really mind, but i really think the foreigner scene is going to become the same as it was during sc:BW.... Too bad, Blizz definitily had the opportunity to avoid this!

or maybe having a permanent running thing can push some teams to establish theirselves better and attract money, rather than having for ultimate goal to compete in Korea and get real sponsor money from them because they're the only pro esports system providing such thing.
edit : what interests me more would be to know how much benefits they got from HOTS sales and what was their process to withdraw the money they provide for the tournament prizes.
How did they determine the 1.6 number, why didn't they put more ? Is there a multi year proespect on this, or is this just a test.
Because 1.6m sounds pretty small to me. However, I have no clue how big it really is for blizzard. As in, could've they put 16 millions instead, for instance, without any difficulty ?
Yeah, how big actually is the 1.6m number ? Money comes from their own pocket or is linked to HOTS sales ?

i understand that a lot of the people who frequent teamliquid are hardcore starcraft fans and want to see the best play being rewarded the most (i.e. the korean scene) but feeding more money into that scene is not nearly as good for sc2 as a whole than feeding money and motivations for foreigners to do well. i am definitely korean-starcraft centric but i realise the importance of the casual viewer following their chosen sc2 pro (e.g. idra, stephano, etc).
remember that WCS EU was one of the most successful tournaments last year, and if WCS EU can pull off similar production this year it should turn out well too. i'm more concerned about WCS NA's level of play - last year's wasn't carried out so well as a side event - but I am hopeful that it can lead to good things.
i understand all the comments regarding lower levels of play and less GSLs and so on, but the GSL/OSL will still retain their prestige. i really don't think many relevant koreans will be switching to NA or EU, and I actually believe that hardworking foreigner pros can duke it out with code B koreans. you probably won't see NSH's Madbull or Prime's Lucy doing too well in NA/EU if they decide to play there instead. no kespa players will leave, and i doubt any top esf players like gumiho or sniper or whatever will be leaving.
koreans may stomp the rest during the season and yearly finals, but that's just part of the scene settling in, and hopefully we can promote better play from all the scenes. everyone recognises the importance of foreigners doing well for the scene (no matter how popular BW was in korea, it was dead everywhere else and we don't want that situation to occur). ideally everyone should be playing S-class starcraft. that may be a long time yet, but WCS is a decent first step in providing the monetary support and motivation for the better foreigners
either way, it's simply more tournaments and more money in the scene, which isn't really a bad thing (and oversaturation shouldn't be that much of an issue with the centralised esports control). there is room for a lot of improvement, but let's give WCS a chance and see how it pans out this year, yes? esports as a whole is still a fairly new genre and there are definitely growing pains to come.

Their responsibility is to make a good game, any artificial support of esport will only have short term effects if the game is not any good and the longevity will be up to other parties (MLG and such) and the community. If you want to have a lasting sports scene for sc2 we shouldn't sit on our asses and wait for Blizzard to save the day.

3.Scarlett now in Korea and Naniwa will go Korea soon.I think they have plan to try for GSL.If they try to play in GSL, they can no longer play WCS NA or WCS EU and they have to play for WCS Korea throughout this year?If so,foreigner's challenge for GSL is dead....

I voted don't like in opterown's poll but it would be more accurate to say I'm worried and change is scary. I don't want the korean scene (which is the only one I follow seriously) to be diminished so that foreigners can earn a paycheck.
I'll be happy to be wrong, though.

No offense, but I think that's a good thing.
The top 16 at the WORLD FINALS should be the Best 16 players in the world, I want to see the best players playing at the world finals and the best games. I don't want to see a token American there because the tournament system let him through when he really isn't as good.
Maybe if the non koreans want to get into the world finals they might finally work harder to practice and get on the same level.

i think you are right there, will be a even harder decision for every non korean to compete in gsl. because yes they won't be able to compete in WCS NA/EU if they play GSL

Players must pick what region they wish to play in, and are not restricted by nationality.
Suddenly, 16 koreans

Gom will cast OSL simultaneously on GomTV, while OGN doing that on tv. How can they have the time to cast OSL if they have their own GSL going on at the same time.
On the other hand, it won't make sense for GSL top 8 to be seeded in both OSL and GSL of next season which will happen almost simultaneously. And when OSL season ends, there will be WCS KR top 8 and GSL top 8 at the same time, which group of top 8 will be seeded to next GSL which equals WCS KR?

"Having some amount of Koreans competing in NA and EU will raise the excitement factor and competitive bar without having a negative impact."
Seems legit :D.
Should make it GSL style (offline qualifiers), I think this would drastically reduce the ammount of koreans given that one can only qualify from one region. Make X of qualifier lan outside the big EU events (DH,IEM.HSC) + ability to qualify only trough one region = almost no koreans in EU. at least id hope so
