Oh man, this community.... sometimes......aaaargh!!
Grubby forfeits: Nothing happend
Stephano forfeits: 30 page with 90% hate.
Anybody realising?
Stephano is just a SC2-player, he does what he thinks is best for him. LIKE ANY OTHER PLAYER. Most herp derps complaining about Stephano would do 100% the same in his situation!
btw: Sad for Taeja. He deserved his shot in the finals...=(

I would do that all the time. GSL is not a tournament its rather a league witch takes months until you get in the money ranks. And as foreigners its a very hard time, your seperated from your family/friends, you dont understand the language and you got to spend a lot of money to live there. And all that for what? The very low chance to win something? To play against korean names the fewest of your fans ever heard of?
IEM in contrast is a real tournnament, you got realistic chances to get something out of it and you fans can actually watch it.
And lets face it: SC2 wont exist forever. As a pro you loose so much precious time you could have spend in a proper job or education. Thats all a lot of lost time and money. Your future employer will most likely not care about you playing computer games professional in the best case. In worst case he will not hire you cause you wasted years of playing "childish games". --> As a progamer you must get out money in that time, thats what matters.

Some of you forgot what IEM World Championship Finals are. Would have been disappointed if Stephano canceled on this.

Remember the 49code A spots? Stephano was put in the schedule, even his teammate assumed he would play and suddenly he announces on twitter he aint going to.

So will the "Stephano does NOT forfeit SPL & Up/Downs" thread also be a headline? Let's please just forget this whole matter...^^
|
Can't blame Stephano for it I think. Players are profs who do what is best for them within the rules. GomTV should just take this as a lesson and stop seeding foreigners.I'd prefer zero seeds but if some have to be there I rather see they give a seed to an up and coming Korean kid who has been working his ass of but has not made it through the preliminaries for some reason.
Hope they do remove Stephano from Code A though. Gives an extra slot for qualifications.

Just because people are hating on Stephano for quitting, calling him "coward" or whatnot, does not make them Stephano-haters.
By logic, they are Stephano fans, who want to see their foreign hero succeed in the highest caliber tournament in the world.
The real haters are happy that he's looking like a coward right about now.

aw, that really sucks! i guess this is one consequence of having too many sc2 tournaments going on at once.
|
So, 31 pages of hate for nothing?
NIIIIICCCCCCEEEEEEEEE! =)
K guys, well see what happens.
I´ll watch U&D with or without Stephano, same as IEM...

I second that. Don't get me wrong, I like Stephanos play a lot. But that's exactly what Stephano does, being unprofessional. I know he says it's his "style" to not train a lot etc. But I think he could really do a lot better (as he is already awesome that means being a GSL champion) if he starts growing up.

Honestly I am surprised there is such an uproar about it. Stephano is a no impact player in gsl and spl both. Him forfeiting the up and downs just saves us from watching a bunch of one sided games. Good luck to Steph in iem. But there are some Koreans there also!

LOL, amusing. Your Team icon is LG-IM
In the last team-battle at IPTL, Stephano won against his LG IM opponent...
One sided games must not mean that Stephano looses them...

Yeah. Don't give foreigners seeds anymore. This is a joke.
Sure GSL is hard. Gaming is hard. Nobody else cares about financial standpoints in these situations. This is about playing leagues people are counting you to play. Some people might have purchased GSL tickets to watch foreigners play, but they continuously FF.
Sure, Stephano wants to make some money at IEM, but there isn't even a for sure chance of that to be honest. Odds are against him making real money at IEM, so why pass this up?
W/e, only solution is to stop giving people special treatment. Polt FF's his spot because he leaves Korea? Then put Polt on a probation period and give his spot to the next available candidate instead of to a random foreigner who is just going to drop out anyways because they don't feel it's important.

Whenever I will be annoyed why people don't release informations to the public, I will think about this thread.
Now I am worried though, not dropping out of UnD mean he might dance on 3 parties, but maybe Stephano needs that to play well.

Every game that foreigners win against Koreans is a HUGE deal. They can have weeks without a Korean defeat, but once a Korean name gets knocked out by a foreigner they get Code S status for life.

This should really bring the respect level up for Idra, Jinro, Huk, TLO, Ret, Haypro etc. These guys actually honored what it meant to be playing Starcraft in Korea and to practice and prepare and actually care about what it is to be a Progamer in the way Koreans do. I especially respect Jinro and Idra for this because he lived on his own in Korea, qualified, and actually made his way through the tournament all the way to ro16/ro8/ro4. That has truly never been matched by any other foreigners in my opinion. The rest of the guys mentioned also at least had respect and performed reasonably well too. (Huk more so than others but yeah).
I think the "newer generation" of SC2 players just don't have the same regard and work ethic for becoming a Korean Style progamer like the BW foreigners did. And why would they? Huge salaries, EFame, Instant Sponsors for basically doing nothing of note. What did Idra have when he started doing well in BW? Motivation and Passion and thats about it. And I'm not an Idra fanboy by any means I barely even watch his games, but you have to give him a lot of respect compared to a player like Stephano.
