I bet this really frustrates korean gamers that are trying to make it.

Very disappointing in stephano.

Playing at IEM is way more interesting for Stephano than GSL.

It may also be that him playing at IEM is more important for EG.

more important than a spot in their PL lineup too?

TBH, this is a huge insult to GOM and the GSL.

They have broken their backs to give Stephano a chance to play in their league, and him, being the spoiled brat he is, decides to not show up because he feels entitled to the GSL spot.

GOM should not allow him to play next season, since he clearly doesn't give a shit about GSL in the first place.

If I was Mr. Chae and the GOM crew, I'd be really fucking pissed off right now.

i dont think its that much of an insult honestly. gom probably knows in advance that the foreign players are going to prioritize foreign tournaments and not base their lives around gsl and since gom keeps giving invites they probably think its worth it to continue.

This is habitual for foreign players. They either need to set a precedent about this sort of shit, or stop giving out free seeds when players in Code B/A have been grinding so hard and can't get that spot since some spoiled foreigner wants to try GSL.

Qualify or GTFO.
Got that.

sigh... what if that seed was given to someone that actually deserved it or was at least ready to commit

Hope to never see him again in GSL or PL, we already know Korea is too much for him so all the doubts are gone.

There shouldnt be code S seeds at all. Best of all they could give seeds to code A/ U&D. Giving straight seed to code S is pretty undeserving, and such precedents only prove this even more.

And Rain never should have tried to qualify if he wasn't going to play EVERY SINGLE GAME. Same with Grubby. They should be banned forever and never allowed in GSL for leaving. They should walk to the other side of the street if they see a GSL player or caster, head bowed in shame. If Huk forfits a match because he is going to his own wedding, banned for life. You play every single game, that is how passion works.

Looks like real-life doesnt exists :D
Please tell me you are not serious about the wedding.

Of course I'm not serious at all. I am mocking the people who are freaking out about Stephano forfiting a qualifying match for one event to go play in the World Championship for another event. If this were anythign else but GSL, no one would care. But for some reason, if the GSL set a match for the same date you were already planning to go to another event, you should cancel your plans and play in GSL.

The dates for World Champions are known for months... and we had many code a ro24 games in this and last week, but no Stephano has to play in the same week like WC.

That is the real problem, it is an embarrassment that the GSL cannot find a calendar or go to TL and click on the “Upcoming Events” tab. Artosis knows how to use TL, he could show them how and then they could avoid this problem in the future.

"Now see these dates? Don't set the matchs for the white guy on these dates and he can attend. Got it?"

Yes but why should GOM be the one shuffling their schedule around and not IEM?

Because they set their dates today. TODAY. Not last month or the month before that. Today. They set their U&D matches to be held on the same week as the EIM World Championship TODAY. That is like setting a figure skating event the same week as the winter olympics, one week before the olympics.

um i dont think they waited until today to schedule them. they were probably scheduled ahead of time and only announced once the player distribution was set. they probably decided there was no point in saying "up and down matches will be held on these days" before they even knew which group the players were in and when they're playing

I don't think it really matters when GOM figured out the dates, what matters is the date they told everyone else. Let me put it another way, they provided him with less than 5 days notice of his match. What if he had decided to go out to IEM early and stop and see his family in France?

5 days notice is not enough notice for anything.

too bad team managers know dates well in advance of the public

You have no proof to back that up and are just making shit up. Artosis didn't know the dates for the U&D matches last week on SotG. You just want to troll and act self richeous about him forfiting a match that any other Korean player would have forfited(and likely will if they are also in IEM).

That would be ideal, yes. Too bad foreigners playing in the GSL, seeded or not, still provide a very significant increase in viewership, so much so that it warrants seeding them even if they should forfeit later on.

Sad state of affairs... :/

Chance to play some matches in an up and down vs a chance to win a much needed trophy (to assuage the results EGTL has had in PL)

Not even a question--this is the right call.

No, foreign seeds should continue. Regardless of all the scheduling hate, stephano hate, ______ hate being spewed the foreign seed needs to continue.

First it lets the rest of the world continue to attempt proving that a foreigner can win in Korea's (World's) biggest and best tournament. GSL is still the gold standard, biggest feather in your cap tournament out there. That being said, GOM understands that folks not living full-time 100% in Korea will never be able to qualify through regular means.

By seeding a foreigner who the esports community is hungry to see play in GSL to see if he can compete in the biggest tournament is a boon for GOM. It will probably net new subscriptions and views to their streams.

Seeding foreigners grows esports, and that is good.

Seriously, people, this is the important thing here: Stephano is scheduled to lead off for EG-TL in the late Proleague match on Monday, the same day as his U/D group and well after it...

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=400656

So either Stephano is just blatantly dodging his U/D group, or EG management seriously messed up somehow.

I don't care about esports, free seeds are ruining the integrity of competition in GSL, that's more important to me than watching foreigners get beat up. If Stephano couldn't make it past the ro32 when Zerg is strong in WoL what hope is there for any other foreigner in Hots? Maybe Naniwa can qualify and make another run some day, he's still the only foreigner to go deep in GSL since 2011.

I mean... maybe he'll forfeit too, there's still time. But we'll see what happens.

I dont think #esports deserve to survive if they need to rely on those kind of marketing gimmicks to do so.

also i saw him easy win the group but what he gets from it ? nearly nothing so sure IEM is way more weight for him

some players here bitching about seeds ... i rly have to ask their brain status in a nice not banworth way ...

then he accept for season one and after he not can timely play in season 2 anymore the flamers start again. this time because he ACCEPTED the seed ? come on guys wtf ????
he accepted season 1. he played season 1 ... let him do what he wants, why should stephano play an up and down winning maximum a code S seed when he can make 20+ in IEM same time

Well that's just hilarious. This most likely means he has no intention to return to Korea after he goes to IEM and MLG.

Why does he not inform GOM that he isn't going to participate, I'm sure he had decided this before they released the U&D groups...

perhaps because they should informed teh DAY he have to play before ? i am sure he would play if its no iem conflict ...

also i saw him easy win the group but what he gets from it ? nearly nothing so sure IEM is way more weight for him

Seriously, people, this is the important thing here: Stephano is scheduled to lead off for EG-TL in the late Proleague match on Monday, the same day as his U/D group and well after it...

So either Stephano is just blatantly dodging his U/D group, or EG management seriously messed up somehow.

Well that's just hilarious. This most likely means he has no intention to return to Korea after he goes to IEM and MLG.

OMG, I've been saying this 2 pages ago. Why are people still arguing as if GOM messed up completely when it's clear that there's a miscommunication by management.
