Are you willing to argue that 14 year olds, on average, have enough life experience for sex with adults to be socially acceptable? A relationship is not the same as equivalence. You're basically saying: "If there's grass on the pitch, let's play ball" (in a slightly more artful way). There are many post-pubescent kids who lack the requisite mental capacity to manifest consent, and some pre-pubescent kids who might possess said capacity... Moreover, I'd argue most kids in the throes of puberty (i.e. ages roughly 13-17) are in many ways incapacitated because of all the hormones in their systems. So, no, puberty is not a good way to establish consent.
In a perfect world, we would treat these stat. rape cases on a case-by-case basis and determine whether the minor could manifest consent, but it's not a perfect world. We don't have the time and resources to make such determinations. So, we draw an arbitrary line in the sand.

I can not speak for others. So I will leave the "socially" out of it. But I think consensual sex with a 14 year old can be acceptable. Many girls lose their virginity at 14 or even younger. Often to a person who is much older. Are you arguing they are all abused without even wanting to consider their opinions on the matter?
