Come on. This is not even close to an accurate summary of what people are talking about.
I've read the whole thread. We've got tons of people here who are completely oblivious about the law
What aspects of the law?
The age of consent in France is 15, as specified by Article 227-25, which reads: "The commission without violence, constraint, threat or surprise of a sexual offence by an adult on the person of a child under fifteen years of age is punished by five years' imprisonment and a fine of €75,000.
Okay, the age of consent in France is 15 years. Do you have any evidence Stephano had sex with a girl in France who was 14 years old, and whose age he didn't make a reasonable effort to determine beforehand (applicable in French cases as corroborated by earlier posters)? If you do, shouldn't you be talking to the Police nationale instead of TL?
No he should not. That is not a felony but a dismeanor, and not anyone can press charge against him for that (I think only the victim, if she feels such, and her parents could).

Do you not understand what happened? Stephano can say whatever the fuck he wants as long as it's not breaking the law. EG can also suspend him for whatever reason they want too! He doesn't own EG. If he wants to be on a pro team where he can say dumb shit and still get paid, he needs to either switch teams or create his own. He is free to do so.

We aren't talking about Stephano. Can you please read our previous posts? This conversation is about people who did post in this thread.
So you didn't think French age of consent law was relevant to Stephano at all, who happens to be the subject of the thread? That is, do you have a reason for commenting on the knowledge or ignorance of posters with respect to French age of consent law? If not, it would appear to be a non-issue. The people in this thread could be ignorant of string theory, but if I posted that, I guarantee it wouldn't look the least bit relevant.

This is completely irrelevant to the discussion we were having. Again, my previous comments were not about Stephano at all.
If the cost of starcraft becoming mainstream is that the players can no longer be themselves and instead have to present fake politically correct personas then I would prefer starcraft to remain a niche sport untainted by the phony touch of sponsorship money.
I would prefer that players "being themselves" would act like reasonable human beings. If making jokes about having sex with underage girls is "being themselves" then it is "themselves" that I don't like and wouldn't support regardless of how mainstream the scene is.
I'm getting too old for the gaming community I guess, I'm sure I would've been one of the people saying this is no big deal 10 years ago.
Hold on. Stephano never said he had sex with a 14 year old. He may have just hit on a 14 year old girl, making a complimentary but sexually suggestive remark, not knowing her age afterwards, or made out (petting) or just been joking about doing so. 'abuse' is fairly vague word.
Maybe a 19 year old making out with a 14 year old is illegal. Stefano making a joke about it could be a way of seeking clarification. I'm not willing to condemn him the basis of the few off color remarks.
Even if Stephano was making a joke about sex. He did appear to believe it was a confidential conversation. What if it's just his way of inquiring from a peer what is legally and/or socially acceptable?
I think you're making assumptions about his intent (gloating) that are not necessarily accurate, he may have been attempting to make a moral inquiry.
A, possibly, offensive joke and a lapse in judgement that happens to get streamed to the world and thus gets blown entirely out of proportion... 'Unfortunate' really is the only word I can use to describe this :/

Yes I have a reason to comment on the knowledge or ignorance of posters. These posters are part of the Sc2 community. If these people have a detrimental behavior then we have an issue. After reading this thread, I for one say that if I had kids, I'd think twice before bringing them to a NA starcraft event.
It's not even a joke. He said he "abused of a 14yr old".
You could just chalk that up to "english-as-a-second-language". BLING said "fucked", not Stephano. This has been repeated ad-nauseum but people keep going on and on about how Stephano said he raped a 14 year old.
The word rape never once showed up, it takes a pretty sick mind to go from "abuse" in the context of StarCraft to "rape" IRL. Abuse could mean so many things, including "beating at StarCraft". Hell, so many players directly say RAPE and yet we understand the context of this. For all we know he could have roflstomped Life on the KR ladder.
Once again, thank you to the SCReddit community for screen capping an irrelevant 5 seconds of a stream, and getting a lot of fans favourite player get suspended. I know that my October is significantly less exciting without Stephano participating in leading foreign tournaments.
It boggles my mind how people think "exposing" some kind of alleged misbehaviour will help the scene, or help fans, or help organizations. The tattletales do nothing but hurt the community.
EG's suspension does nothing except hurt the fans.

true but unfortunate situation has to be dealt whether anyone likes to do it or not. That's how it works in real world.
you wanna get paid? gonna have to give up bit of your freedom. especially when you are in a spot light.

Nobody in esports scene has come close to that kind of self confession, bro. Next time you think about airing you pedophilic rape stories, think about it again.
So quick to judge man. You letting this shit consume you. You don't know the situation, his nor hers.
I am upset with EG's decision, if i was stephano I would enter dreamhack n the other competitions under a alias name. Win the prize money and do it for the fans. Fuck EG

Or people have a different interpretation of things entirely unrelated to their maturity or lack thereof. We have a great thing in Starcraft with the players really being able to express their own varied personalities to their fanbase. Yes it may sometimes go 'over the top' but it really is a special thing to many of us.
As a follower of mainstream sports as well, I personally bemoan the incredibly boring interviews and press conferences that come out of these environments, with the participants media-trained to within an inch of their lives so they can represent their brands.
Also I'm going to pre-empt the likely retort that I'm creating a false dichotomy with the only choice being between boring cliched interviews and making jokes about child abuse. That's not the case at all, I'm just saying that every time we get the pitchforks out we're going to as a community see less of the players expressing themselves.
Agreed.

MC basically disagrees with everything you just said. The man has more personality then the whole foreign community combined minus a couple people and look how big Starcraft is in Korea.
MC is also the size of the whole foreign community. Literally. Never liked MC, felt he was too arrogant.
At least he has the balls to go murloc or even undertaker! I liked Stephano in the beginning, lost some respect for him through his arrogance, but that was too much.
If your job is to be likeable, and you make money of having fans, you can't behave like that.

Does the word "abuse" even better than "fuck"? I would say abuse is even worse than fuck, since in most case "fuck" means that the girl agreed to have sex with him. But the word "abuse" definitely means the girl disagrees with his action, even just hitting is pretty bad.
On October 14 2012 05:04 EvanC wrote: EG's suspension does nothing except hurt the fans.
No it doesn't? I know most people here think rape jokes are the pinnacle of humor and basically fall off their chairs laughing at mere implication of non consensual sex, but me and most of my friends are quirky and weird counter-culture beatnik hipsters that aren't big fans of rape. Rape is just too popular for us to like I guess.
So if I try to watch a stream with someone I have to preface it with "hey this is cool, aliens vs space marines, real time chess, just don't mind all the fucking nonstop racism, rape jokes, homophobia etc. Just don't worry about that part! No stop where are you going it's just about to get good.
So, the number of pages has tripled since I last checked this thread, and I've found that no one has said anything different that wasn't said the first 30+ pages. Although kudos to everyone, the thread hasn't been closed (yet) and there is no mod note on top of the page. That's freaking impressive for shit like this.

Do you know, that its not a rape if both parties agree to have sex? I dont think stephano even said HE HAD SEX. And also JOKE = NOT SERIOUSLY, it doesnt have to be funny.
I "LIKED" stephano but that is way out of line!! there is that many sick bas***ds in the world that actually do that. It's not funny 1 bit. i'm actually digusted in him and i would just get rid of him altogether from EG rather than just suspended!
