As emotionally invested as people are on this topic, TL rules still apply. That includes flaming and ad hominem attacks. |
Players that interact with the community really should really think what they should do before they do something. Causing controversy is quite common but in this case it was force down upon Destiny due to a quibble.
There is hardly anyone that can be an example role model to the up and coming people. A lot of streams just swears and swear, though I don't mind it, but it aint going to improve the eSports scene.
The best role model I can think of so far is Boxer, such a well mannered man and I can never imagine him swearing on stream.
Tasteless doesn't even interact with the community at all (maybe except for Twitter, but his pre scene online is like a bare minimum). People can say this is a poor choice by him but it also has the advantage of making him look like having no weakness to exploit. Sort of like an invincible god.

A little ironic he thinks "nerds can't relate" when that's the exact kind of thing a nerd not clued into social norms would do and think. Or he thinks he's being macho that he shares his GFs private nude picks with his "buds". Or he's stupid. Or both.

man Destiny really gets the short end of the stick all the time lol...

Shouldnt this be jail time bro for destiny?

Half of this thread seems to be just "Oh, I personally don't like destiny, so this is good" rather than looking at the overall stupidity of the situation...

I really hope that the people in r/SRS and the bluetea apologists/misogyny accusers in this thread don't represent feminists as a whole.... It's a noble cause to promote gender equality (though not entirely necessary in some developed countries), but those assholes decided that they would destroy an entire team's sponsors based on the acts of one member that they don't agree with. They didn't even have insight to the scene and didn't know what the consequences would be for multiple people. I just hope that feminists as a whole aren't as short-sighted and callous as the idiots on reddit.
Consider if the positions were reversed. Bluetea posts a pic of destiny to 2 friends on skype, says he has a nice attractive penis but a hideous face. Destiny hacks her skype, gets pissed about his looks being insulted in a private conversation, and posts a naked picture of her to 40k plus people. Bluetea then gets kicked out of her college for the controversy, but doesn't leak the pictures of destiny. Now with the bullshit misogyny angle gone in that hypothetical situation, who gets supported there? One person is so clearly in the wrong that it's ridiculous. In the real world, it's the exact same situation, just with the genders reversed. Honestly, at this point I think the only ones still damning Destiny are die-hard haters who want destiny eliminated from the scene no matter what, die-hard feminists who will never admit a woman is in the wrong, and die-hard white knights who believe that if they defend enough women on the internet one will magically love them.

Unfortunately Destiny isn't one of the several hundred people in the world that is talented and fortunate to play in the NFL, with a multi-million dollar contract, playing in a league that generated hundreds of millions in revenue in tickets, merchandising and licensing.
He's a 20-something father that plays SC2 in his bedroom. SC2 is a still a small scene with a limited amount of prize money available to win -- which doesn't really make a difference for Destiny, since he's not very good at SC2, with no significant tournament results. Most of the money he makes is from stream viewers. He needs the community more than community needs him.
Obviously, a team would provide him with some additional income and support, but that would require having the discipline and maturity to adhere to the obligations of a team and it's sponsors -- which aren't easy to find or keep for such a young sport.
It sucks that a leaked, private conversation would be his downfall, but the truth is -- people that get hurt tend to hurt people. Destiny isn't exactly the most courteous guy, and he obviously treated this girl in way that triggered some rage. A more mature or serious person -- including athletes -- would know better than to interact with 15 year-old girl in the first place. And frankly, Destiny isn't a good or marketable enough player to lose a sponsor over.
As an side note, here's a semi-related article about how the NBA prepares rookies for this.
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/49424/too-real-sex-talk-connects-with-rookies
Young Sun Kendall Marshall said "I'm turnin my playa card in."
Blazer top pick Damian Lillard declared: "This man @TonyGaskins is too real. Y'all need to get up on him. He just changed my life. #realrap"
Harrison Barnes, Darius Johnson-Odom, Draymond Green, Jared Sullinger, Andre Drummond and Quincy Acy all tweeted similarly.
--
Gaskins knows from his own life, and from his clients, all about the unhealthy dynamic between male athletes and the women who hang around stadiums and hotel lobbies. And he had stories, thick with sexually transmitted diseases, women who cheat more than men, and clever schemes to get their hands on players' money and more.
"The mindset with a lot of guys," Gaskins says, "is I'm the man, I make all the money, she knows I'm going to cheat and that's that."
What that scheme ignores, Gaskins says, is that things inevitably get complicated: "If she's letting you cheat, nine times out of ten she's cheating too. You're out of town and she's spending your money on another man, who is scheming to take her from you."
Gaskins knows this story, because it happened to him in college.
Gaskins has many memorable turns of phrase, like "take your mess, add some age, and make it your message." One that applies to the women whose men cheat is: "Hurt people hurt people."

so you replace minor, debatable misogyny with minor, debatable misandry and much less likely consequences? comparing root dropping destiny to a college expelling bluetea is just the worst analogy imaginable and becomes a complete non-sequitur.
there are very, very few people coming out and supporting bluetea's decision to punish destiny in a logical manner but rather in an emotional, empathetic manner - we can understand her immediate impulse for revenge, because people sharing your ultra-personal information like that is the sort of thing that clouds your judgment. what excuse did destiny have for fucking any of what he did besides casual, practiced callousness and what honestly comes off to me as a similarly casual disregard for the feelings of a woman when the bros need their potential fap material, bro?

I can see why he would be removed from the team from theese actions, Wish him the best in the future but i think it will be hard for him to join another team after this.
|
I don't know why so much drama around, the only thing I see is a guy who did what mostly everyone has done with his friends, the girl was leaked and got her revenge.
The only difference with this common life matter, which most of us has already seen or suffered, is that the girl fucked Destiny's career.
For me here the real dick was her. Such disproportionate action for what he did.

Girl is an idiot for sending nude pics . +1 on the idiot counter for her. Destiny is an idiot for blabbing about it to others . +1 counter for him Destiny again is being an idiot for letting her get access to private pics of his junk. +1 destiny Girl is an idiot for posting his pictures online, causing a huuuge shit storm and making the whole community know about it and about how she send nude pictures of herself TO DESTINY WHAT DID YOU EXPECT. +1 for her
Result: Girl 2:2 Destiny , 94% on the idiot meter, nobody wins, both lose

All I can see is that Destiny did something stupid, and it came back to bite him on the ass. The world is a tough place eh?

Yeah, but Destiny lost his job and career. She just lost... what? in two days nobody will remember about her.
I'm not a fan of Destiny and his big mouth but I still can't understand why some people still think the monster is he, while is clearly obvious that it is she.
Next time think twice about sending nude pics of you to a man. Unless you can accept his friends are gonna see you nude also, and analize every and all the details. Like the girls don't do it also.

He should have used her job in the analogy instead of her college. Other than that it's an apt analogy. He still made a great point that you didn't address. Would you be defending Steven's actions if he was the one that took revenge? I'm willing to bet most would be much less empathetic.
His conversation was crude but it was also supposed to be private. It's also one that most men I know have quite often.
depending on the states, what you and your friends are doing is illegal (photo part) and extremely insensitive to the person involved.
But I don't expect you to understand that
Mind finding the law where sharing a photo in private with friends is illegal? I understand you see it as insensitive, I just don't care what you think.

whoa whoa whoa....stop right there.. what?
she is 15?
wtf?
can't wait to hear Destiny's super philosophical uber silver tongued rationalization for what may be a crime. Destiny's best move might be to pull an "OJ" and not say anything ever.
After getting some sound legal advice.. .this incident might finally shut him up.
What is this guy doing giving people his email, twitter etc passwords?
