Hopefully, for the Korean scene at least, some dude will be flipping through the channels and see that Jaedong is playing Sc2 against MVP or something and decide to watch for a bit. The same thing might not have happened if, say, RoRo was playing against MVP. Guys like Effort and Roro are better right now at SC2 though, so it's best to give the seeds to the ones that have proven themselves to be good in SC2. Flash and Jaedong would be more of a ratings grab. Which, honestly, me and a lot of people would not mind. **** competitive play, I want fanservice. Gom gives foreigners who win a tournament a Code S seed, but when a Code A/B Korean wins one, they dont get a seed. Why do they do this? For the views. Id put money on it being fan favorites, unless Kespa is picking the players. Well, think about the travelcosts for the players, just to play the qualifier.IMO it's the right way to handle it. So it's not the only reason to get more viewers from EU/US etc.
Yeah, foreigner seeds are good IMO. It helps add more variety to eSports (at least in SC) because right now it's Koreans winning everything. I'm fine with watching Koreans play SC but if there were more diversity, it could add more viewers and might help eSports (and everyone involved in eSports) as a whole. So while it is unfair (which I agree with), especially for players wanting to get into Code A and Code S , in the long term , it might help eSports grow and it might help everyone have more opportunities to make (and keep) eSports as their career of choice.

Glad ESF > Kespa. The more I dug into the details I less I liked Kespa.
Players shouldn't be seperated, but rather forced together for the good of all.

ESF showed Kespa who daddy was

This may be a long shot, but hopefully some day all of their players will leave the Tyranny of KeSPA and move on to other teams so they aren't just pawns of that selfish organisation. u realise gom is helping themselves by seeding kespa players right?

What he said. If GOM doesn't give KESPa players any seeds then most likely very few if any KESPA players will qualify for code A, and none will be in code S for S4 since you can't get straight into it without a seed. Giving some seeds ensures that there will be some KESPA players in GSL and that will attract viewers. If KESPA players all go to code A qualifiers and only a couple or none make it in, that won't help GOMs viewer counts since the KESPA fans won't watch it.

GOM being nice to KeSPA? GOM *needs* KeSPA players to legitimize its tournaments.

Yes, because none of the GSLs to this point have been legitimate. MAKES SENSE

you know what makes it legit? money. GSL's been making money for 2 years without KeSPA.

you realize that traditional television viewership has declined in the last 5 years right? Internet is the future

Other way around.
KeSPA players haven't proven themselves in SC2 yet (I'm not counting WCS for various reasons), GSL is the most prestigious SC2 league to be in, regardless of BW success.
For example: if KeSPA had not backed down they would be running OSL with ONLY BW pros that have transitioned, and many of them still are mediocre at best in SC2, whereas the GSL could have 0 of the KeSPA players in it and would still be by far the most prestigious SC2 tournament.
KeSPA has no foothold on the SC2 scene at all at the moment, and that is a good thing; KeSPA has far too much money and power, and if they are allowed to, they'll do exactly what they did with BW.

Whoop-dee-shit. TV isn't the be-all end-all of esports.

The SC1 pros weren't anywhere near the best in the world for 2 years. They didn't practice SC2 at all. So the people who won before they switched were the best in the world.

If the GSL is so prestigious, then so many of these GSL players (who I like) wouldn't be mentally crumbling in the booth when they play a Masters-level Jaedong. Kespa has legitimacy because it has the best RTS minds and bodies on the planet.
As much as people hate Kespa, Kespa is the reason the SC scene is alive today, and the reason most of us love esports.

Actually, TLBS and their peers in Kespa have been the best RTS players at the hardest strategy game for a pretty long time, about 5 years. They didn't just catch fire and fade away quickly. They've had pretty consistent amazing careers.

There was eSports before Brood War, and there will be eSports after Kespa goes away.

Having a full time channel is somewhere near infinity times harder than broadcasting online.
You know how I know this? Because there's only one full time esports channel and anyone can broadcast SC2 on stream from their bedroom.
